  • An experimental research was conducted in order to study the treatability of municipal landfill leachate using a combined physio-chemical and biological treatment. The leachate was obtained from Nanjido landfill site in Seoul. Several sets of bench-scale sequencing batch reactor(SBR) and physic-chemical reactors were used as experimental apparatus. This experiment lasted for about 2 years. The results are as follows: 1. The characteristics of Nanjido landfill leachate were pH 7.4~8.2, BOD 79~450mg/L, COD 998~1460mg/L, $NH_3-N$ 1380~3412mg/L, 7-P 2.6~7.0mg/L, color 890~1992 unit, and heavy metals are a very small amount. 2. Either physio-chemical or biological treatment of Landfill leachate alone did not work well. So for the adequate treatment of leachate, it was necessary to deal with the physio-chemical pretreatment before biological treatment. And it was found that both electrolysis and ozone treatment are better pretreatments of leachate than others. 3. In this study, landfill leachate was effectively processed by two step : first by electrolysis pretreatment, and secondly by SBR treatment. Thus, the study showed considerable substrate removal of raw leachate, even though the rate of COD removal depended on HRT.

  • Barley Yellow Mosaic Virus(BaYMV) is responsible for ane of the most improtant disease in malting Barley in Korea. It is transcitted by soil borne fungus, Polymyza graminis To estimate the occurrence pattern of BaYMV by the physio-chemical property of soil collected from farmer's sield, this study was conducted. The rate of didsease occurrence to BaYMV investigated at 19 spots of 10th regions. The sample soil was collected by 20 pots among an ifected field and analyzed th soil characters in 2002. The rate of disease occurrence to BaYMV was about 79%,60%,65% in Sacheon, Kosung and Hadong areas, respectively, which is malting Barley growing regions but Pohang, Yeongduk, Euesung, Gunwee, which are growing Covered Barley doesn't infected BaYMV. The tested of RT-PCR was showed that the BaYMV, BMMV.SBWMV. were identified in Milyang but the others regions was infected only to BaYMV. The physio-chemical property of soil collected from infected soil show various range such as pH(4.98~8.05), EC(0.44~2.7%),OM(1.61~6.85), P2O5958~519), K(0.22~1.82), Ca(2.3~9.7), Mg(0.5~2.6), Na(0.14~0.43) The correlation coefficient between physio-chemical property fo the infected soil and infection rate shows significant to pH at 5% level. Although OM and Ca were high scores, it doesn't significant at 5% but it need to be more study in future.

  • This study was carried out in order to produce useful material for the forest multiple use and forest protection management by soil physio-chemical analysis of studied area in Mt. Namsan. The result of soil physio-chemical analysis and statical analysis represented as following. In side of physical properties of forest soil in Mt. Namsan, Soil depth was average 31.4cm and available soil depth was average 20.0cm. Soil type was Brown forest soil that representative soil type in Korea. Soil texture was sandy loom(SL) except valley area. In side of chemical properties, the range of soil acidity was 4.29 ~ 5.19 (average 4.76), organic matter content was 3.17% that compared the lowest value to organic matter content of Korea forest soil. Available phosphorus was 3.64ppm that was lower than others forest soil. Exchangeable cation content was similar to the Korea brown forest soil. Cation exchange capacity(CEC) was $8.22cmol_c/kg$ in Mt. Narnsan.

  • There are strong demands for accurate, fast, and inexpensive devices in the medical diagnostic laboratories, such as biosensors and chemical sensors. Biosensors can provide the reliable and accurate informations on the desired biochemical parameters, which is an essential prerequisite for a patient before going for a treatment. They can be used for continuous measurements of metabolites, blood cations, gases, etc. Of these, electrochemical biosensors play an important role in the improvement of public health, because rapid detection, high sensitivity, small size, and specificity are achievable for clinical diagnostics. In this paper, the clinical applications with electrochemical biosensors are reviewed. An attempt is also made to highlight some of the trends that govern the research and developments of the important biosensors that are associated to clinical diagnosis.
