Proton treatment may deliver a larger dose to a patient's skin than traditional photon therapy, especially when a range shifter (RS) is inserted in the beam path. This study investigated the effects of an RS on skin dose while considering RS with different thicknesses, airgaps and materials. First, the physical model of the scanning nozzle with RS was established in the TOol for PArticle Simulation (TOPAS) code, and the effects of the RS on the skin dose were studied. Second, the variations in the skin dose and isocenter beam size were examined by reducing the air gap. Finally, the effects of different RS materials, such as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), Lexan, polyethylene and polystyrene, on the skin dose were analysed. The results demonstrated that the current RS design had a negligible effect on the skin dose, whereas the RS significantly impacted the isocenter beam size. The skin dose was increased considerably when the RS was placed close to the phantom. Moreover, the magnitude of the increase was related to the thickness of the inserted RS. Meanwhile, the results also revealed that the secondary proton primarily contributed to the increased skin dose.

We trace the cosmological origin of satellites around isolated dwarf galaxies using a very high resolution (12 pc/h) cosmological hydrodynamic zoom simulation. To realistically describe the formation and evolution of small-mass stellar satellites, our model includes a full baryonic physics treatment. We find that the mini-halos form objects resembling dwarf galaxies. The majority of their star forming gas is accreted after reionization, thus the survival of a mini-halo's gas to reionization is not an important factor. Instead, the key factor seems to be the ability for a mini-halo to cool its recently accreted gas, which is more efficient in more massive halos. Although the host galaxy is only a dwarf galaxy itself, we find that ram pressure is an efficient means by which accreted mini-halos lose their gas content, both by interacting with hot halo gas but also in direct collisions with the gas disk of the host. The satellites are also disrupted by the tidal forces near the center of the host galaxy. Compared to the disrupted satellites, surviving satellites are relatively more massive, but tend to infall later into the host galaxy, thus reducing the time they are subjected to destructive environmental mechanisms and dynamical friction.
The Standard Model (SM) does not provide an information for 26% of dark matter of the universe. In the dark sector, dark matter is supposed to be linked with the hypothetical particles called dark photons that have similar role to photons in electromagnetic interaction in the SM. Besides astronomical observation, there are studies to find dark matter candidates using accelerators. In this paper, we searched for dark photons using future electron-positron colliders, including Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC)/CEPC, Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee)/Innovative Detector for Electron-positron Accelerator (IDEA), and International Linear Collider (ILC)/International Large Detector (ILD). Using the parameterized response of the detector simulation of Delphes, we studied the sensitivity of a double dark photon mode at each accelerator/detector. The signal mode is double dark photon decay channel, e+e- → A'A', where A' (dark photon with spin 1) decaying into a muon pair. We used MadGraph5 to generate Monte Carlo (MC) events by means of a Simplified Model. We found the dark photon mass at which the cross-sections were the highest for each accelerator to obtain the maximum number of events. In this paper we show the expected number of dark photon signal events and the detector efficiency of each accelerator. The results of this study can facilitate in the dark photon search by future electron-positron accelerators.
Nanocomposite-reinforced concrete systems have gained increasing attention in bridge construction due to their enhanced mechanical properties and durability. Understanding the transient dynamics of these advanced materials is crucial for ensuring the structural integrity and performance of bridge infrastructure under dynamic loading conditions. This paper presents a comprehensive study of the measurement techniques employed for assessing the transient dynamics of nanocompositereinforced concrete systems in bridge construction applications. A numerical method, including modal analysis are discussed in detail, highlighting their advantages, limitations, and applications. Additionally, recent advancements in sensor technologies, data acquisition systems, and signal processing techniques for capturing and analyzing transient responses are explored. The paper also addresses challenges and opportunities in the measurement of transient dynamics, such as the characterization of nanocomposite-reinforced concrete materials, the development of accurate numerical models, and the integration of advanced sensing technologies into bridge monitoring systems. Through a critical review of existing literature and case studies, this paper aims to provide insights into best practices and future directions for the measurement of transient dynamics in nanocompositereinforced concrete systems, ultimately contributing to the design, construction, and maintenance of resilient and sustainable bridge infrastructure.

Recently, ship hull-mounted passive sonar system solution is needed in the perspective of improving target detection and elimination of vibration-induced noise. Our research team suggests acousticvibration matching method using front and rear signal of a sensor as the improvement of the problem above. Thus in this paper, theoretical background about matching method and its application on finite element method based multi-physics simulation are described. Furthermore, it is shown that target detection and hull vibration performance are improved by using matching method under the condition of our sensor system. Finally, practicality and future research are discussed.

With the rapid development of DC high voltage accelerator, higher requirements have been raised for the design of DC high voltage power supply, requiring more stable high voltage with lower output ripple. Therefore, it also puts forward higher requirements for the parameter design of the voltage doubling rectifier circuit, which is the core component of the DC high voltage power supply. In order to obtain output voltage with better performance, the effects of the working frequency, the stage capacitance and the load resistance on the output voltage of the voltage doubling rectifier circuit are studied in detail by simulation. It can be concluded that the higher the working frequency of the transformer, the larger the stage capacitance, the larger the load resistance and the better the output voltage performance in a certain range. Based on this, a 2.5 MV voltage doubling rectifier circuit driven by a 120 kHz frequency transformer is designed, developed and tested for the power supply of the neutron source device towards BNCT. Experimental results show that this voltage doubling rectifier circuit can satisfy the design requirements, laying a certain foundation for the engineering design of DC high voltage power supply of neutron source device.

The purpose of this study was to measure curvature contour skin dose using radiochromic film and TLD for a conventional open field. We also attempted to quantify the degradation of skin sparing associated with use of immobilization devices for high energy photon beams and to calculate the skin dose with a help of Monte Carlo (MC) simulation. To simulate head-and-neck and shoulder treatment, a cylindrical solid water phantom 11 cm in diameter was irradiated with 6 MV x-rays using $40{\times}40\;cm^2$ field at 100 cm source axis distance (SAD) to the center of the phantom. Aquaplastic mesh mask was placed on the surface of the cylindrical phantom that mimicked relevant clinical situations. The skin dose profile was obtained by taking measurements from $0^{\circ}$ to $360^{\circ}$ around the circumference of the cylindrical phantom. The skin doses obtained from radiochromic film were found to be 47% of the maximum dose of $D_{max}$ at the $0^{\circ}$ beam entry position and 61% at the $90^{\circ}$ oblique beam position without the mask. Using the mask (1.5 mm), the skin dose received was 59% at $0^{\circ}$ incidence and 78% at $80^{\circ}$ incidence. Skin dose results were also gathered using thin thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD). With the mask, the skin dose was 66% at $0^{\circ}$ incidence and 80% at $80^{\circ}$ incidence. This method with the mask revealed the similar pattern as film measurement. For the treatments of the head-and-neck and shoulder regions in which immobilization mask was used, skin doses at around tangential angle were nearly the same as the prescription dose. When a sloping skin contour is encountered, skin doses may be abated using thinner and more perforated immoblization devices which should still maintain immoblization.
Cyberknife with small field size is more difficult and complex for dosimetry compared with conventional radiotherapy due to electronic disequilibrium, steep dose gradients and spectrum change of photons and electrons. The purpose of this study demonstrate the usefulness of Geant4 as verification tool of measurement dose for delivering accurate dose by comparing measurement data using the diode detector with results by Geant4 simulation. The development of Monte Carlo Model for Cyberknife was done through the two-step process. In the first step, the treatment head was simulated and Bremsstrahlung spectrum was calculated. Secondly, percent depth dose (PDD) was calculated for six cones with different size, i.e., 5 mm, 10 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm, 50 mm and 60 mm in the model of water phantom. The relative output factor was calculated about 12 fields from 5 mm to 60 mm and then it compared with measurement data by the diode detector. The beam profiles and depth profiles were calculated about different six cones and about each depth of 1.5 cm, 10 cm and 20 cm, respectively. The results about PDD were shown the error the less than 2% which means acceptable in clinical setting. For comparison of relative output factors, the difference was less than 3% in the cones lager than 7.5 mm. However, there was the difference of 6.91% in the 5 mm cone. Although beam profiles were shown the difference less than 2% in the cones larger than 20 mm, there was the error less than 3.5% in the cones smaller than 20 mm. From results, we could demonstrate the usefulness of Geant4 as dose verification tool.
Compton suppression apparatus using the Compton scattering response, by inhibiting part of the spectrum Compton continuum Compton continuum in the area of the peak analysis of the gamma rays that enables a clearer device. In order to find out the geometry structure of high-purity germanium detector(HPGe) -NaI(TI) and to optimize the effect of movement, Monte Carlo simulation was used to grasp the behavioral characteristics of Compton suppression and compare several layout structures. And applied to the cylinder beaker used for the environmental measurement by using the efficiency according to the distance. For the low-energy source such as 81 keV, the Compton continuum is scarcely developed and the suppression effect is also insignificant because the scattering cross-section of the Compton effect is relatively low. In the spectrum for the remaining energy, it can be seen that the Compton continuum part is suppressed in a certain energy range. Compton suppression effect was not significantly different from positional shift. average reduction factor(ARF) value was about 1.08 for 81 keV and about 1.23 for 1332.4keV energy at the highest value. It can be seen that suppression over the Compton continuum region of the energy spectrum is a more appropriate arrangement. Therefore, it can be applied to various environmental sample measurement through optimized structure.

As computer technology continues to evolve, the Computational Sciences utilized in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Life Sciences have been attracting more attention. In Korea, to compensate for the drawbacks in Computational Science, students and researchers have been using the EDISON platform. The EDISON platform provides a web portal service for education and research and an environment for addressing complex issues involving five fields, e.g., Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Nanophysics, Computational Chemistry, Structural Dynamics, and Computational Design. As the platform and user scale increase beyond service provision, the need for efficient operation of its currently running data management system is on the rise. In this study, we resolve the data synchronization issues between the existing EDISON platform and web portal. As the EDISON platform is integrated with the web portal, a file management service is implemented to integrate the management of user data and files, which ultimately improves the overall efficiency of file management.
