  • Using pentacene field effect transistors (FETs) with Au source and drain electrodes, electron injection from the Au electrodes into the pentacene was investigated. The capacitance-voltage (C-V) and optical second harmonic generation (SHG) measurements were employed. Electron injection from the Au electrodes was suggested by the hysteresis behavior with the C-V characteristics and slowly decaying SHG signal under DC biasing, A mechanism of hole-injection assisted by trapped electrons is proposed. To confirm electron injection process, light-emitting behavior under the application of AC applied voltage was observed.

  • This study was performed to assess the efficacy of electrical stimulation for healing of wound in injured tissue, and to provide a baseline for electrical stimulation in the treatment. Although the specific mechanism by electrical stimulation which may promote injured tissue to heal is not known, generally many hypothesis exist such as bactericidal effect, enhanced circulation, stimulation of cellular biosynthesis and replication, and attraction of connective tissues and inflammatory cells The results of this study are as follows : 1. The healing of skin wound was facilitated by electrical stimulation 2. The capacity of collagen synthesis was significantly accelerated by electrical stimulation 3. The application of electrical stimulation to injured tissue may be helpful in augmenting the rate of wound contracture

  • The report of the Korean National Statistics Office shows that Korea has been emerging as an elderly society rapidly, and it will burden the Korean society with excessive social welfare cost for the aged in the near future. If we can help the aged to live healthy in some ways, the social burden for the health care of the aged will be lessened. In order to help physical and mental health of the elderly person, we have developed an exercise apparatus called intelligent arm wrestling machine system. This paper presents the mechanism and scenario of the proposed intelligent arm wrestling machine system. The proposed mechanism and scenario are peculiar. In particular, the proposed scenario determines randomly who will win between the man and the robot and generates a game process that the arm-wrestler cannot predict in advance.

  • The purpose of this study is to help understanding of abstract patterns and to play a guideline's role in the development of designs and the prediction of trends for present and future fashion designers and textile designers. The summary of this study's results is like followings. Formative characteristics of abstract pattern in 2000's fashion are Impromptu, Anti-mechanism, Superimposing, Disorder. First, Impromptu is rebounce against uniformity, mechanism, man-created beauty Second, Anti-mechanism represents unfinishing, unbalance, inaccuracy and relates with each traditional of nation or ethnic group. Third, Presupposing transparency Superimposing offsets each patterns. So Their images are ambiguity, ununiformity, unequality, incompletion, uncertainty and so on. Fourth, Disorder breaks and ignores physical balance, rule, order and so on. These images represent uncertainty, freedom, naturality. From this result, I can interpret that these images are representing of humanism reacting about uniformity, mechanism, man-created beauty, completeness of modernism since the Industrial Revolution.

  • An automated manufacturing process mechanism for string musical instruments has been designed in this study. In contrast to other manufacturing products, classical string instruments try to preserve their traditional design shapes even in these days and involve variety of wood working(carpentry) characteristics including highly skilled curved surfaces treatments. Great efforts have been put to develop an integrated and automated system for improved product quality and process control, reduced physical labors, better safety etc. They, however, have been limited to devise jigs and tools with regard to selected processes due to lack of technology and research man-powers. We carefully examined the products and process characteristics, and an automated mechanism which overcome prevailing drawbacks has been derived.

  • This paper proposes a fault detection and recovery mechanism for a fault-tolerant Mini-MAP system, and provides detailed techniques for its implementation. This paper considers the fault-tolerant Mini-MAP system which has dual layer structure from the LLC sublayer down to the physical layer to cope with the faults of those layers. For a good fault detection, a redundant and hierarchical fault supervision architecture is proposed and its implementation technique for a stable detection operation is provided. Information for the fault location is provided from data reported with a fault detection and obtained by an additional network diagnosis. The faults are recovered by the stand-by sparing method applied for a dual network composed of two equivalent networks. A network switch mechanism is proposed to achieve a reliable and stable network function. A fault-tolerant Mini-MAP system is implemented by applying the proposed fault detection and recovery mechanism.

  • SiC nanotubes were synthesized by SLS growth mechanism using various metal catalysts. Synthesized nanotubes had mean diameters of 20~50 nm and several $\mu\textrm{m}$ length. The kind of catalysts affected microstructures of SiC nanotubes by different diffusion routes. These differences are attributed to catalysts' physical properties and relative activities to the graphite substrate. Fe acted as a good catalyst of SLS growth mechanism. But in case of Ni, SiC nanotubes grew slowly. Optical property was measured by photoluminescence measurement. Relatively broad peak was obtained and mean peak positioned at about 430 nm. This result was the same as other nanocrystalline SiC materials, but was different from the results of bulk SiC probably due to quantum confinement effect and defect in the grown SiC nanotube.

  • Currently, research on network functions virtualization focuses on using microservices in cloud environments. Previous studies primarily focused on communication between nodes in physical infrastructure. Until now, there is no sufficient research on group key management in virtual environments. The service is composed of microservices that change dynamically according to the virtual service. There are dependencies for microservices on changing the group membership of the service. There is also a high possibility that various security threats, such as data leakage, communication surveillance, and privacy exposure, may occur in interactive communication with microservices. In this study, we propose an ID-based group key exchange (idGKE) mechanism between microservices as one group. idGKE defines the microservices' schemes: group key gen, join group, leave group, and multiple group join. We experiment in a real environment to evaluate the performance of the proposed mechanism. The proposed mechanism ensures an essential requirement for group key management such as secrecy, sustainability, and performance, improving virtual environment security.

  • A linearly moving structure in the area where the friction force is dominant - such as ducts filled with grease in the nuclear power plant - experiences increase in friction since the contact surface gets larger as the structure proceeds. To solve this problem is critical for the pipe inspection robot to investigate further area and this makes the system more energy-efficient. In this paper, we propose a passively growing sheath that can be added to linearly moving structures using zipper mechanism. The mechanism enables the linearly moving structures to maintain rolling contact condition against external environment, which provides substantial reduction in kinetic friction. To analyze the effect of the mechanism's head shape, we establish a physical model and compare to the experimental results. Finally, we have shown that the passively growing sheath can be successfully applied to the pipe inspection robot for the nuclear power plant.

  • This paper introduces a cleaning process for removing submicron-sized particles from NiP hard disk substrates by the liquid-assisted laser cleaning technique. Measurements of cleaning performance and time-resolved optical diagnostics are performed to analyze the physical mechanism of contaminant removal. The results reveal that nanosecond laser pulses are effective for removing the contaminants regardless of the wavelength and that a thermal mechanism involving explosive vaporization of liquid dominates the cleaning process.
