  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of Pilotis space in the elementary school and its problems and to explore some improvement scheme. The subjects of this research include the elementary schools in Deajeon, Chungju city which have been established since 1990 when the pilotis first introduced. It would be the effect of the decrease of site area and the increase of total floor area of elementary school. In this situation, this study aimed to figure out the characteristics of pilotis according to their types- Entrance type, Courtyard link type, Hybrid type- throughout the questionnaire, interview, and document analysis. The investigative situation was performed by employing a sample survey of 9 schools whose types were different from each other. The sample survey compared and evaluated scale, location, functions of Pilotis, the physical elements of types, connections with surrounding circumstances and the use under each condition. This study found that the use of pilotis at the elementary schools was inclined to the user, the teachers usually use pilotis only for passage, while the students use it in many ways according to the individual property. Pilotis space represent the differences in satisfaction and utility according to its type. To improve the relationship of users at the pilotis space, Courtyard link type is to be suggested and also it needs enough area as possible. In this way the pilotis type of elementary school gives great effect to the quality and function for better usage of this space.

  • A high temperature fabric filter was developed and characterized in order to solve the various problems encountered in the operation of industrial fabric filters. Four kinds of dusts generated in the typical domestic industry were used for its characterization, coke dust from a steel manufacturing process, cement dust from a cement manufacturing process, fly ash from a fluidized-bed combustor, and incinerator ash from a waste plastics incinerator. The physical and chemical properties of the high temperature fabric filter were analyzed in terms of mean flow pore pressure, bubble point pore diameter, mean flow pore diameter, pore size distribution, and the changes in tensile strength and initial elastic modulus under $SO_2$ and $NO_2$ atmospheres. Pressure drop, dust penetration, and figure of merit for the fabric filter were also investigated in a bench-scale filter testing unit. The fabric filter developed in this study had good physical and chemical filter properties and showed a very applicability to typical industrial dusts treatments.

  • Superhero films have formed a new genre convention encompassing all the generations. Figures derived from image contents are solid figures produced by means of professional figuration skills. Possession of figures has a symbolic meaning as a medium connecting the imaginary world and real one. From this perspective, figures hold an important position as a character product derived due to market expansion of the content industry. In this context, the study, which analyzed how appraisal of outward visual elements in superhero action figures might affect consumer's purchase intention, aimed to identify their purchase patterns. For this, the study established colors, types of physical body, facial figures and motions as independent variables for appraisal of outward visual elements, and purchase intention as a dependent variable and then conducted a multiple regression analysis. As a result of the analysis, the study found that colors, types of physical body and facial figures had a positive influence on purchase intention, while motions had no significant influence.

  • In this study, both the model test and the numerical analysis were carried out to figure out the physical behaviour of the model pile during the tunnelling. As a result, both the vertical and the horizontal displacements were simultaneously occurred in the model pile which is subjected to the working load during the volume loss. Consequently, the phenomenon of inclination took place in the model pile. The degree of inclination of the model pile depends on volume loss due to tunnel excavation, pile tip's offset from the tunnel centre, and bearing ground conditions in which pile tip is located. Therefore, in the planning stage of urban tunnelling not only the ground behaviour with respect to the pile locations, but also the physical behaviour of pile itself should be carefully analysed to avoid damage of adjacent buildings.

  • A method for gamma/neutron event classification based on frequency-domain analysis for mixed radiation environments is proposed. In contrast to the traditional charge comparison method for pulse-shape discrimination, which requires baseline removal and pulse alignment, our method does not need any preprocessing of the digitized data, apart from removing saturated traces in sporadic pile-up scenarios. It also features the identification of neutron events in the detector's full energy range with a single device, from thermal neutrons to fast neutrons, including low-energy pulses, and still provides a superior figure-of-merit for classification. The proposed frequency-domain analysis consists of computing the fast Fourier transform of a triggered trace and integrating it through a simplified version of the transform magnitude components that distinguish the neutron features from those of the gamma photons. Owing to this simplification, the proposed method may be easily ported to a real-time embedded deployment based on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays or Digital Signal Processors. We target an off-the-shelf detector based on a small CLYC (Cs2LiYCl6:Ce) crystal coupled to a silicon photomultiplier with an integrated bias and preamplifier, aiming at lightweight embedded mixed radiation monitors and dosimeter applications.

  • SAI(Secondary Air Injection) system has been studied widely as one of the promising countermeasure for reducing HC emission at cold start. In this paper, in order to find out the optimal position of SAI, computational thermal fluid analysis on exhaust system adapted SAI system is performed using commercial 3-D CFD code, CFX. The present results showed that SAI position strongly affected the uniformity of air distribution in front of catalyst. And also through the decision process of optimal position of SAI, new index, uniformity of air distribution($U_{\phi}$) is proposed to define it quantitively. Because $U_{\phi}$ is very simple equation and similar with flow uniformity, it is very easy to figure out the physical meaning and to apply it to practices. Finally, we applied the index $U_{\phi}$ to the decision process of the optimal position of SAI, so that we could get the clear comparison results.

  • Most of Rapid Prototyping (RP) process adopt a solid Computer Aided Design (CAD) model, slicing into thin layers of uniform, but not necessarily constant, thickness in the building direction. Each cross-sectional layer is successive1y deposited and at the same time, bonded onto the previous layers; the stacked layers form a physical part of the model. The objective of this study is to develop a method for calculating the rotation angle ($$\theta$_x, $\theta$_y$) of hotwire of the cutting system in the three-dimensional space for the Variable Lamination Manufacturing process using expandable polystyrene foam sheet (VLM-S). In order to examine the applicability of the developed method to VLM-S, various three-dimensional shapes. such as a screw, an extruded cross, and free surface bodies such as miniatures of the monkey(a figure of Sonokong), were made using the data obtained form the method.
