  • Lactic acid production parameter optimization using Lactobacillus amylovorus NRRL B-4542 was performed using the design of experiments (DOE) available in the form of an orthogonal array and a software for automatic design and analysis of the experiments, both based on Taguchi protocol. Optimal levels of physical parameters and key media components namely temperature, pH, inoculum size, moisture, yeast extract, $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_20$, Tween 80, and corn steep liquor (CSL) were determined. Among the physical parameters, temperature contributed higher influence, and among media components, yeast extract, $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_20$, and Tween 80 played important roles in the conversion of starch to lactic acid. The expected yield of lactic acid under these optimal conditions was 95.80% and the actual yield at optimum conditions was 93.50%.

  • The improved Green integral equation for the calculation of time-harmonic potentials in the radiation diffraction problem about a freely floating body in the presence of moderate or weak current is presented. The forward-speed Green function presented by Brard is used. The correct free surface boundary conditions on the physical free surface are employed as well as an appropriate boundary conditions on the non-physical inner free surface. The default in the existing Green integral equation as well as in the source integral equation is discussed in detail.

  • In order to examine the influences by the extreme weather changes on the human physical conditions, we need to undertake human biometeorology research such as the assesment on the extreme heat's influences on human health. Most of the preceding studied have been found to be focused on the influences by extreme heat on the human body, they used statistics on the daily mortality. But thismethod estimate an indirectly influences by extreme heat on the human body. So, to be able to predict the possible directly influences by the extreme heat on the physical conditions. We measure thermal stress by extreme heat.

  • A skier's motion was analyzed by a simple model consist of point mass m and a single rod connected to a single ski plate. We studied the conditions for the stable ski turn as functions of the linear velocity and the radius of the turn. The solutions for the stable ski turn in our model do not require any extra skier's movement to complete a stable circular turn. The solution may then give the skier the most comfortable skiing method without any active movement to control the ski. The generalized force supporting the point mass from the ski plate was calculated. We obtained the force from the ground (rebound force) without any geometrical structure of the ski plate. Adding an active movement to the direction of the ski plate, the conditions for the stable ski turn were also analyzed. Our result gives some insight for the skier who wants to develop technique.

  • This study examined the effects of group exercise program on health conditions and quality of life in cerebral palsy. Adults with cerebral palsy in their 20's who participated in the evaluation of measurement tools prior to and following the experiment. The control group was engaged in manual exercise for the range of joint movement and extension exercise for arms, legs and trunk, and experimental group performed group exercise program including boccia exercise. The health condition and quality of life of the experimental group were significantly increased after intervention (.05<). There was a slight increase in the control group, however it was not statistically significant. As a result of comparing the health condition and quality of life of the two groups, the value of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group. The results of this study suggest that exercise programs for patients with cerebral palsy in the twenties are considered as beneficial interventions to improve health conditions and quality of life.

  • Rocket Based Combined-Cycle(RBCC) engines are currently being explored as advanced propulsion for space transportation. JAXA has been conducting RBCC engine research by using various experimental facilities. In order to clarify the experimental results and contribute to the improvement of designing, the analysis of the RBCC engine in an ejector-jet mode was carried out using the CFD code developed in-house for unstructured grids. CFD replicated the characteristic flow structures. The numerical simulation of the pumping performance of the ejector driven by different rocket gases(He, $N_2,\;A_r$) and physical conditions were performed, and their effects on the performance were studied.

  • Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) can be efficient in modelling non-linear, complex and ambiguous behavior of cement-based materials undergoing combined damage factors of different forms (physical and chemical). The current work investigates the use of ANFIS to model the behavior (time of failure (TF)) of a wide range of concrete mixtures made with different types of cement (ordinary and portland limestone cement (PLC)) without or with supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs: fly ash and nanosilica) under various exposure regimes with the most widely used chloride-based de-icing salts (individual and combined). The results show that predictions of the ANFIS model were rational and accurate, with marginal errors not exceeding 3%. In addition, sensitivity analyses of physical penetrability (magnitude of intruding chloride) of concrete, amount of aluminate and interground limestone in cement and content of portlandite in the binder showed that the predictive trends of the model had good agreement with experimental results. Thus, this model may be reliably used to project the deterioration of customized concrete mixtures exposed to such aggressive conditions.

  • Patients with pain, numbness, and weakness in their elbows, wrists, and hands often need proper rehabilitation treatments. Among them, musculoskeletal injection therapy should be performed after a full evaluation of the patient, taking into account history and physical examination leading to clinical diagnosis. General rules such as accurate diagnosis and injection materials selection are used to achieve maximum benefit with minimal side effects. During injection, patient location, aseptic care, penetration techniques, follow-up and follow-up care must be maintained. Specific techniques may vary depending on the type, lesion, and location of the injection therapy. For optimal effectiveness, physician should inject directly into the lesion and avoid the injection of surroundings as much as possible. Therefore, ultrasound-guided injections are needed to accurately inject. These conditions and other conditions of the hands, wrists, and elbows can be effectively diagnosed and treated with diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injections.

  • This study suggested the environmental components for open space in a healing environment based on the social support approach for integrating and enhancing users' activities and interactions. The physical environments of the open space in healing facilities should be suggested by social support design and support the interactions of various users. Particularly architectural environment conditions should reinforce the contribution to the revitalization of medical facilities based on improving the healing effect of patients through mutual exchange of users. The open space environment conditions influence users' healing process with physical design factors and users' interactions, and the flexible environments based on the social support that is crucial for circulation and mutual exchange of users. The open space transformation, integration of technology, and wayfinding system with color and signage also allow users to improve the space experience and easy access. The environmental components of open space design should include easy access for user inflow, flexible layout for comfort, access to outdoor spaces, integration of warm color schemes for relaxation, personalization of spaces with artwork, and visual interest through the use of textures and materials.

  • The MiDF Cement Composite is a high-performance construction material with low defects that dehydrates surplus water through pressurization and minimizes air gap between particles. In other words, the performance expression of the MiDF cement complex is affected by pressurized conditions. Thus, this study analyzed the physical characteristics of MiDF cement complex according to the power and pressure of the ga-power and the time of application and intends to use it as a basic data for optimal mixing.
