  • are cartoon-expressions called cartoon itself to show the characteristic and limit of the presentation system, cartoon, by constitution. These followings are typical examples. First, a character regarded as a cartoonist shows up in the cartoon and constitutes the readers' recognition of the cartoon by himself or herself. Second, the line dividing two cuts is transformed or destroyed and likened to another thing so that can help the readers understand the cuts are physical existence. Most of the approaches to cartoon criticism studies which have been done before are external analyses focused on how to use cuts, balloons, and the two-dimensional expression meaning the relationship between script and picture. The purpose of this research is understanding meta-expressions in online and offline cartoons based on these outcomes. The research on meta-expressions of cartoon is considered to help understanding about the structure of Webcomics and the expansion of expression field in media by examining the expressions of the genre called cartoon.

  • This study aimed to identify visuality changes in the $21^{st}century$ digital visual media art through the expension of digital frames based on visuality represented by Cartesian perspectivalism in the modern age. The visuality of perspective, camera obscura and panorama, which are called modern visual systems, was analyzed to illustrate each characteristic from a viewpoint of a seeing subject. These characteristics of the visual systems were restructured to meet the visuality of the digital era through the illustrations of Lacan's gaze. In addition, the characteristics of frames found in the $21^{st}century$ digital visual media art were identified, and they were categorized into and illustrated from physical, convergent and interactional viewpoints. The outcomes were classified into the $21^{st}century$ digital frame types, and new $21^{st}$century digital visual illustrations were suggested based on the results.

  • This paper proposes a GPU based water surface animation and rendering technique for interactive applications such as games. On the water surface, a lot of physical phenomenon occurs including reflection and refraction depending on the viewing direction. When we represent the water surface, not only showing them in real time, but also make them adjusted automatically. In our implementation, we are able to capture the reflection and refraction through render-to-texture technique and then modify the texture coordinates for applying separate DU/DV map. Also, we make the amount of ratio between reflection and refraction change automatically based on Fresnel formula. All proposed method are implemented using OpenGL 3D graphics API.

  • 3D computer applications provide various functions such as modeling, rendering, animation, lighting and so on. Lighting is the core element in that light visualizes shape and develops characteristics of surface. In spatial design, light is the most important factor in deciding color, texture and illumination level which are the basic factors of spatial design. The purpose of this study is to define the characteristics of lighting in digital space provided by the computer, based on the fact that physical space cannot be separated from digital space, and to show how light in the physical realm relates to computer graphics technologies. This study shows there are following characteristics of light in digital space; iconic light, modifiable surface, shadowless light, 2-dimensional perception, and the particulate aspect of light but not the wave aspect of light. Light in physical or digital space is capable of producing a visual sensation. The experimental space can be realized due to the lack of physics. Further study in new illumination procedures are required as computer media expands.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how physical education class attitudes and playfulness influence school happiness among Korean elementary schoolers. The data was collected from 300 students in five elementary schools in I city. After the exclusion of 22 incomplete questionnaires, a total of 278 questionnaires were used for data analysis. For the data analysis, descriptive analysis, exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were employed. The correlation analysis revealed that every subset of variables of the study was positively inter-correlated. Multiple regression analysis showed that mental fluidity playfulness positively influenced every subset of school happiness variables. Physical animation playfulness positively influenced self-respect school happiness, optimism school happiness, and overall school happiness. Mental spontaneity positively influenced teacher relationship school happiness and overall school happiness. Physical education class attitudes positively influenced every subset of school happiness variables, and based on standardized regression coefficients, physical education class attitudes influenced school happiness variables more so than did playfulness. The findings indicate that physical education class attitudes and playfulness are important contributors for improving Korean elementary students' school happiness, and it is necessary to cultivate physical education class attitudes and playfulness in Korean elementary schoolers.

  • We modeled fish school movements as a capture process in relation to the purse seine method using the three steps of the stimulus-response process (i.e., input stimuli, central decision-making and output reaction). Input stimuli of the model were categorized as either physical stimuli such as visual stimulus, sound stimulus, water flow, and weather or as biological stimuli such as species and size, swimming performance, sensual sensitivity, and presence of prey or predators. The output process determining the spatial orientation of the fish school for 3-D movements was based on swimming speed and angular change in the fish response, and these movements were animated as the relative geometry between the fish school and the purse seine. Simulations were carried out for skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) schools reacting to a pelagic purse seine in the southwest Pacific Ocean. Simulation results showed that escape ratios varied from 20 to 70% by the relevant ranges in the stimulus-response thresholds, swimming speeds, and angular changes of fish schools were similar to those observed in the field. Therefore, with knowledge of relevant parameters, this model can be used to predict capture and escape probabilities of purse seine operations for different fish species or conditions.

  • As an important visual element, color in animated films can not only depicts the reality, but also conveys emotion and meanings, which play an important role in shaping the space of animated films. As one of the most outstanding animated films, Coco uses bold and unique color language to shape the film space. It uses the national color to blend the Mexican culture into the story space making it full of Mexican regional and cultural connotation, uses color contrast to shape the physical space, highlighting the three-dimensional and deep sense of the physical space. And also uses color association to create the psychological space, leading audience into the spiritual world of the film. Based on the analysis of the Coco, we an see that when shape the film space of animation, the film maker should give full play to the characteristics and function of color, and apply different color language to shape different space according to the role of the film space, so as to expand and deepen the connotation and expressiveness of film space.

  • Sound is very important element to enhance and reinforce reality and immersion of users in virtual reality and computer animation. Recently, significant researches about sound modeling are presented in computer graphics community. In this article, main subjects are explained and major researches are reviewed based on the sound papers presented in computer graphics community. Specially, several papers about following two subjects are reviewed in this paper: 1) synthesing sound using physically-based laws and generating sound synchronized with graphics. 2) spatializing sound and modeling sonic environment. Many research about sound modeling have been focused on more efficient modeling of real physical law and generate realistic sound with limited resources. Based on this concept, various papers are introduced and the relationship between researches about sound and graphics is discussed.

  • In this study, a distributed rainfall-runoff model, K-DRUM, based on physical kinematic wave was developed to simulate temporal and spatial distribution of flood discharge considering grid rainfall and grid based GIS hydrological parameters. The developed model can simulate temporal and spatial distribution of surface flow and sub-surface flow during flood period, and input parameters of ASCII format as pre-process can be extracted using ArcView. Output results of ASCII format as post-process can be created to express distribution of discharge in the watershed using GIS and express discharge as animation using TecPlot. an auto calibration method for initial soil moisture conditions that have an effect on discharge in the physics based K-DRUM was additionally developed. The baseflow for Namgang Dam Watershed was analysed to review the applicability of the developed auto calibration method. The accuracy of discharge analysis for application of the method was evaluated using RMSE and NRMSE. Problems in running time and inaccuracy setting using the existing trial and error method were solved by applying an auto calibration method in setting initial soil moisture conditions of K-DRUM.
