The adsorption characteristics of bovine serum albumin(BSA) on the modified carbon fiber and cellulose surfaces were investigated. In order to define the effects of solid surface characteristics on protein adsorption, surfaces of carbon fiber and cellulose were modified by physical and chemical treatment. The amounts of BSA adsorbed onto various solid surfaces were evaluated by batch method under various pH and ionic strength. The amount of adsorbed BSA was highly dependent on pH as well as surface functional groups.
In this paper, we propose the cleaning process system to remove micro-particles, various impurities, unnecessary residues, etc. for liquid crystal display manufacturing processes. This system is structured with cleaning, rinse and drying process using the chemical cleaning of alkaline water and the physical cleaning of SHS(supper heating steam). And we shows cleaning effects of alkaline water and remove effects of SHS.

In nanomachining processes, chemical effects are more dominant factor compared with physical deformation. For example, during the nanoscratch on a silicon surface in the atmosphere, micro protuberances are formed due to the mechanochemical reaction between the diamond tip and the surface. On the contrary, in case of chemically stable materials, such as ceramics or glasse, the surface protuberance are not formed. The purpose of this study is to understand effects of the mechanochemical reaction between tip and surfaces on deformation behaviors of hard-brittle materials. Nanometerscale elasoplastic deformation behavior of single crystal silicon (100) was characterized with the surface protuberance phenomena, and compared with that of borosilicate (Pyrex glass 7740).
In this study temperature distribution and gas flow inside a planetary type reactor in which a number of satellites on a spinning susceptor were rotating were analyzed using numerical simulation. Effects of flow rates on gas flow and temperature distribution were investigated in order to obtain design parameters. The commercial computational fluid dynamics software CFD-ACE+ was used in this study. The multiple-frame-of-reference was used to solve continuity, momentum and energy conservation equations which governed the transport phenomena inside the reactor. Kinetic theory was used to describe the physical properties of gas mixture. Effects of the rotation speed of the satellites was clearly seen when the inlet flow rate was small. Thickness of the boundary layer affected by the satellites rotation became very thin as the flow rate increased. The temperature field was little affected by the incoming flow rate of precursors.

Purpose: The aim of this in vitro study was to estimate surface characteristic after peptide coating and investigate biological response of human mesenchymal stem cell to anodized titanium discs coated with RGD peptide by physical adhesion and chemical fixation. Materials and methods: Fluorescence isothiocyanate (FITC) modified RGD-peptide was coated on the anodized titanium discs (diameter 12 mm, height 3 mm) using two methods. One was physical adhesion method and the other was chemical fixation method. Physical adhesion was performed by dip and dry procedure, chemical fixation was performed by covalent bond via silanization. In this study, human mesenchymal stem cell was used for experiments. The experiments consisted of surface characteristic evaluation after peptide coating, analysis about cell adhesion, proliferation, differentiation, and mineralization. Obtained data are statistically treated using Kruskal-Wallis test and Bonferroni test was performed as post hoc test (P=.05). Results: The evaluation of FE-SEM images revealed no diffenrence at micro-surfaces between each groups. Total coating dose was higher at physical adhesion experimental group than at chemical fixation experimental group. In cell adhesion and proliferation, RGD peptide coating did not show a statistical significance compared with control group (P>.05). In cell differentiation and mineralization, physical adhesion method displayed significantly increased levels compared with control group and chemical fixation method (P<.05). Conclusion: RGD peptide coating seems to enhance osseointegration by effects on the response of human mesenchymal stem cell. Especially physical adhesion method showed more effective than chemical fixation method on response of human mesenchymal stem cell.
In this study, the pellet-type adsorbents were prepared by extrusion using water treatment sludge. Effects of binder and calcination on physical and chemical properties of pellet-type adsorbents were investigated. The porous structure and surface characteristics of the adsorbents were studied using nitrogen adsorption, compression strength, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, and infrared spectroscopy of adsorbed pyridine. With increasing of binder content to 5 wt%, the compressive strength of pellet-type adsorbent could be improved more than three times, but the surface area reduced by 30%, and thus the breakthrough time of trimethylamine was shortened. The breakthrough time of the trimethylamine, a basic gas, could be increased more than three times through calcination, which seems to be due to generation of acid sites composed of Lewis acid and Br$\ddot{o}$nsted acid sites on the adsorbent surface.
Food safety is a term broadly applied to food quality that may adversely affect human health. These include zoonotic diseases and acute and chronic effects of ingesting natural and human-made xenobiotics. There are two major areas of concern over the presence of residues of antibiotics in animal-derived foodstuffs with regard to human health. The first is allergic reactions. Some antibiotics, such as penicillins can evoke allergic reactions even though small amounts of them are ingested or exposed by parenteral routes. The second is development of antibiotic resistance in gut bacteria of human. Recently multi-resistant pneumococcal, glycopeptide-resistant enterococci and gram negative bacteria with extended-spectrum $\beta$-lactamases have spread all over the world, and are now a serious therapeutic problem in human. Although it is evident that drugs are required in the efficient production of meat, milk and eggs, their indiscriminate use should never be substituted for hygienic management of farm. Drug should be used only when they are required. In addition to veterinary drugs, environmental contaminants that were contaminated in feed, water and air can make residues in animal products. Mycotoxins, heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals derived from industries can be harmful both to animal and human health. Most of organic contaminants, such as dioxin, PCBs and DDT, and metals are persistent in environment and biological organisms and can be accumulated in fat and hard tissues. Some of them are suspected to have endocrine disrupting, carcinogenic, teratogenic, immunodepressive and nervous effects. The governmental agencies concerned make efforts to prevent residue problems; approval of drugs including withdrawal times of each preparation of drugs, establishment of tolerances, guidelines regarding drug use and sanitation enforcement of livestock products. National residue program is conducted to audit the status of the chemical residues in foods. Recently HACCP has been introduced to promote food safety from farm to table by reducing hazardous biological, chemical and physical factors. Animal Production Food Safety Program, Quality Assurance Programs, Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank are para- or non-governmental activities ensuring food safety. This topic will cover classification and usage or sources of chemical residues, their adverse effects, and chemical residue status of some countries. Issues are expanded to residue detection methodologies, toxicological and pharmacokinetic backgrounds of MRL and withdrawal time establishments, and the importance of non-governmental activities with regard to reducing chemical residues in food.

Cadmium telluride (CdTe) is one of the most attractive photovoltaic materials due to its low cost, high efficiency and stable performance in physical, optical and electronic properties. Few researches on the influences of uniform surface on the photovoltaic characteristics in large-area CdTe solar cell were not reported. As the preceding study of the effects of thickness-uniformity on the photovoltaic characteristics for the large-area CdTe thin film solar cell, chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process was investigated for an enhancement of thickness-uniformity. Removal rate of CdTe thin film was 3160 nm/min of the maximum value at the 200 $gf/cm^2$ of down force (pressure) and 60 rpm of table speed (velocity). The removal rate of CdTe thin film was more affected by the down force than the table speed which is the two main factors directly influencing on the removal rate in CMP process. RMS roughness and peak-to-valley roughness of CdTe thin film after CMP process were improved to 96.68% and 85.55%, respectively. The optimum process condition was estimated by 100 $gf/cm^2$ of down force and 60 rpm of table speed with the consideration of good removal uniformity about 5.0% as well as excellent surface roughness for the large-area CdTe solar cell.
Textile factories are one of the industries which its wastewater treatment is a challenging issue, especially in developing countries and a conventional treatment cannot treat all its pollutants properly. Using chemical coagulants is a technique for physical and chemical primary treatment of the wastewater. We applied jar test for selection of suitable coagulant among the five coagulants including alum, calcium hydroxide, ferrous sulfate, ferrous chloride and barium chloride for the effluent of wastewater in Mazandran textile factory located in Mazandran Province, Iran. In addition, jar test, we also used analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method considering criteria which included coagulation cost, sensitivity to pH change, the amount of sludge generation and side effects for coagulation. The results of the jar test indicated that calcium hydroxide was proper among the coagulants which it removed 92.9% total suspended solid (TSS), 70% dye and 30% chemical oxygen demand. The AHP analysis presented that calcium hydroxide is more suitable than other coagulants considering five criteria.

The behavior of surface film formation was greatly dependent on the speed of potential cycling. In $LiClO_4$ / EC + DEC, cyclic voltammetry results showed that the peaks originated from surface film formation on graphite electrode at the high charge-discharge rate was shifted to the lower potentials as the charge-discharge rate decrease. This indicates that surface films with different morphology and thickness were formed by different charge-discharge rate. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results indicated that the properties such as thickness and morphology of the surface film were greatly affected by the charge-discharge rate. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) showed that the resistance of surface film was affected by the speed of potential cycling. In addition, the charge transfer resistance was also dependent on the charge-discharge rate indicating that the charge transfer reaction was affected by the nature of surface film. TEM and EIS results suggested that the chemical property as well as the physical property of the surface film was affected by the charge-discharge rate.
