Surface modification of meta-aramid fibers was performed by phosphoric acid treatment. Surface morphology and element composition of untreated and treated fibers were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Effects of surface modification on the mechanical strength of aramid papers made from meta-aramid fibers and fibrid were investigated. Surface modification conditions were optimized by response surface analysis (RSA). Results show that phosphoric acid treatment increases the surface roughness and oxygen content of aramid fibers. They improve the interface bonding strength between aramid fibers and fibrid, which improves the tensile strength of aramid papers. The results of response surface analysis indicate that the tensile strength of aramid papers increases by 47.5% and reaches the maximum when meta-aramid fibers are treated with 21.1wt% phosphoric acid solution at $39.3^{\circ}C$ for 36.7 min.
The waste solution discharged form the LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) manufacturing process contains phosphoric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid and metal ions such Al and other impurities. In this study, vacuum evaporation and diffusion dialysis was developed to commercialize an efficient system for recovering the high-purity phosphoric acid and manufacturing monoammonium phosphate. By vacuum evaporation, almost 99% of nitric and acetic acid was removed. Also, by diffusion dialysis, about 97.5% of Al was removed. Monoammonium phosphate was manufactured from purified phosphoric acid and ammonium hydroxide. In order to get the optimum manufacturing condition, the molar ratio of ammonium hydroxide and phosphoric acid, pH and temperature was controlled. Using this optimum condition, we obtained the recovery rate of monoammonium phosphate of about 90%.
The purpose of this study was to observe the tensile strength of composite resins to etched dentin surface with the various methods of placing bonding agent before composite resin or placing composite resin alone. Recently extracted 60 maxillary incisors were chosen. These were divided into 6 groups: Group I : Immediate Silar adaptation to the etched dentin surface with 37% phosphoric acid for 60 seconds without bonding agent. Group II : Immediate Silar adaptation to the etched dentin surface with 37% phosphoric acid for 60 seconds with bonding agent. Group III : Silar adaptation to the etched dentin surface with 37% phosphoric acid for 60 seconds after 5 minutes of bonding agent. Group IV : Immediate Enamelite adaptation to the etched dentin surfaces with 50% phosphoric acid for 120 seconds without bonding agent. Group V : Immediate Enamelite adaptation to the etched dentin surface with 50% phosphoric acid for 120 second s with bonding again. Group VI : Enamelite adaptation to the etched dentin surface with 50% phosphoric acid for 120 seconds after 5 minutes of bonding agent. All specimens were immersed in water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours before testing. The results were as follows: 1. The tensile strength of powder/liquid composite resin system was higher than that of pastel paste composite resin system. 2. The tensile strength of the composite resin group II, III, V, & VI with bonding agent was higher than that of the composite resin group I & IV without bonding agent. 3. The tensile strength of the composite resin group III & VI after 5 minutes added to bonding agent was higher than that of the composite resin group II & V immediately added to bonding agent.
We investigated the effect of stabilization processing parameters on the thermal shrinkage, thermal stability and microstructure of rayon fabrics stabilized under various conditions such as heating rate, stabilization temperature, atmosphere gas, and chemical treatment. The presence and absence of phosphoric acid treatment and the heating rate have most importantly influenced the thermal shrinkage and the weight change of rayon fabrics. Especially, the phosphoric acid treatment decreases the reduction of thickness, length, and weight of the fabrics by about 80%, 20%, and 26%, respectively, in comparison with the untreated counterparts, showing the protective effectiveness of the thermal shrinkage involved. The thermal stability of stabilized rayon fabrics is also affected by all the processing conditions used: stabilization temperature, phosphoric acid treatment, atmosphere gas, and heating rate. In addition, the surface and diameter of the stabilized fiber significantly depend on the treatment of phosphoric acid prior to stabilization process.
The purpose of this study was to compare in vitro shear bonding strength with three different enamel surface preparations (1) 30% sulfated polyacrylic acid with 0.3M lithium sulfate (2) 40% sulfated polyacrylic acid with 0.3M lithium sulfate (3) 37% phosphoric acid. 105 extracted human premolar teeth were divided into each three groups of 35. Metal brackets were bonded to teeth in the three groups. The same self curing resin was used for all groups. A shearing force was applied to the teeth. After debonding, bases of bracket and enamel surfaces were examined under steroscopic microscope to determine the failure modes. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out with one way ANOVA and Student t- test. The results were as follows. 1. Shear bond strength values for the 30% polyacrylic acid and 40% polyacrylic acid group were approximately two thirds of the phosphoric acid group. It maintains clinically acceptable but not enough bond strength. 2. There was no statistically significant difference in shear bond strengths between 30% and 40% polyacrylic acid group. 3. The failure modes of brackets had some differences. In polyacrylic acid groups, the percentage of adhesive/enamel failure was higher than that of adhesive/ bracket interface failure. On the contrary in phosphoric acid groups, the results were reversed. Further study of bond strength could be required. If polyacrylic acid enamel conditioning is used clinically.

In one group that tested for the effects of grinding and etching on the deciduous teeth, S.E.M. examination on the ground or unground labial surface of deciduous maxillary central incisors were made after etching procedure with 40% phosphoric acid for 60 secs., 120 secs., 180 sees. each. In another group that tested for the degree of resin penetration to the ground and etched deciduous teeth, composite resin application was done to the ground deciduous maxillary central incisors that had been acid-etched for 30 secs., 60 secs., 90 sees., 120 sees., 180 secs. each. The tooth-resin specimens were cut at the middle 1/3 of the crown by 2mm thickness, and the adjacent tooth materials were demineralized by 10% hydrochloric acid, the author observed the tags of the resin replica with S.E.M.. Following results were obtained. 1. After 40% phosphoric acid etching, the unground deciduous enamel surface showed various types of etching pattern. 2. For the formation of regular micropores on deciduous enamel surface by acid etching with 40% phosphoric acid, the time over 120 secs. should be requested. 3. After 40% phosphoric acid etching, the ground deciduous enamel surface showed the same etching pattern that has been a preferential removal of prism peripheries despite different etching time. 4. On the ground group that etched over 60 secs. to 180 secs., the length of tags was $5{\mu}m$ to $8{\mu}m$, with a mean of $7{\mu}m$.

When we use the total-etch dentin adhesive system for composite resin restorations, gel or liquid acid etchant such as 37% phosphoric acid is commonly used. Thirty seven percentage phosphoric acid is very powerful erosive agent, and can cause severe harmful effects when it contacts with an oral mucosa and facial skin. This case describes iatrogenic chemical burn on facial skin caused by phosphoric acid which was happened during composite resin restorative procedure. Chemical burn by acid etchant can be evoked by careless handling of remnant and syringe. In order to prevent these iatrogenic injuries, we should check the complete removal of the etching agent both in intra and extra-oral environments after etching and rinsing procedure and it is necessary to use of the rubber dam or isolation instruments. If accidental burn were occurred. immediate wash with copious water. And bring the patient to the dermatologist as soon as possible.
Sulfonated poly(fluorinated arylene ether)s (SDF-F)/poly[(N-vinylimidazole)-co-(3-methacryloxypropyl-trimethoxysilane)] (poly(VI-co-MPS))/poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) is prepared for a high temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). The reaction of the membrane with phosphoric acid forms silicate phosphor, as a chemically bound proton carrier, in the membrane. Thus-formed silicate phosphor, nitrogen in the imidazole ring, and physically bound phosphoric acid act as proton carriers in the membrane. The physico-chemical and electrochemical properties of the membrane are investigated by various analytical tools. The phosphoric acid uptake and proton conductivity of the SDF-F/poly(VI-co-MPS)/PTFE membrane are higher than those of SDF-F/PVI/PTFE. The power densities of cells with SDF-F/poly(VI-co-MPS)/PTFE membranes at 0.6 V are 286, 302, and 320 mW $cm^{-2}$ at 150, 170, and 190 $^{\circ}C$, respectively. Overall, the SDFF/poly(VI-co-MPS)/PTFE membrane is one of the candidates for anhydrous HT-PEMFCs with enhanced mechanical strength and improved cell performance.
Two azole compounds viz., Imidazole (IM) and 2-Methylimidazole (2-MIM) were studied to investigate their inhibiting action on corrosion of mild steel in phosphoric acid ($H_3PO_4$) solution by mass loss and polarization techniques at 302K-333K. It has been found that the inhibition efficiency of the all inhibitors increased with increase in inhibitor concentration and decreases with increasing temperature and also with increase in acid concentrations. The inhibition efficiency of these compounds showed very good inhibition efficiency. At 0.5% of IM and 2-MIM in 1N and 5N phosphoric acid solution at 302K to 333K for 5 hours immersion period, the inhibition efficiency of 2-Methylimidazole found to be higher than Imidazole. The adsorption of these compounds on the mild steel surface from the acids has been found to obey Tempkin's adsorption isotherm. The values of activation energy ($E{\alpha}$) and free energy of adsorption (${\Delta}G{\alpha}ds$) were also calculated. The plots of log $W_f$ against time (days) at 302K give straight line which suggested that it obeys first order kinetics and also calculate the rate constant k and half life time $t_{1/2}$. Surface was analyzed by SEM and FITR spectroscopy.
This work was conducted to obtain a rapid, accurate, and precise procedure for free amino acids analysis in Doenjang with HPLC-OPA (high performance liquid chromatography using-phthalaldehyde) and AAA (automatic amino acid analyzer) methods. Different sample extraction procedures among water, 0.1 M perchloric acid, and 0.1% meta-phosphoric acid were also compared. The optimal extraction solvent was 0.1% meta-phosphoric acid for both the HPLC-OPA and AAA methods. Good recoveries for glycine and methionine were observed using the 0.1% meta-phosphoric acid extraction with HPLC-OPA method. Method precisions (% relative standard deviation) for the free amino acids ranged for 1.62% to 8.27%, in which the HPLC-OPA method with water extraction showed the lowest value at 1.62%. Inhibition rates of the free amino acids in Doenjang were greatest with an addition of NaCI at a 1% concentration.
