Background: Respiratory protection equipment (RPE) is the last resort to control exposure to workplace air pollutants. A comprehensive respiratory protection program (RPP) ensures that RPE is selected, used, and cared properly. Therefore, RPP must be well integrated into the occupational health and safety requirements. In this study, we evaluated the implementation of RPP in Iranian petrochemical industries to identify the required solutions to improve the current status of respiratory protection. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 24 petrochemical industries in Iran. The survey instrument was a checklist extracted from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration respiratory protection standard. An index, Respiratory Protection Program Index (RPPI), was developed and weighted by analytic hierarchy process to determine the compliance rate (CR) of provided respiratory protection measures with the RPP standard. Data analysis was performed using Excel 2010. Results: The most important element of RPP, according to experts, was respiratory hazard evaluation. The average value of RPPI in the petrochemical plants was $49{\pm}15%$. The highest and lowest of CR among RPP elements were RPE selection and medical evaluation, respectively. Conclusion: None of studied petrochemical industries implemented RPP completely. This can lead to employees' overexposure to hazardous workplace air contaminants. Increasing awareness of employees and employers through training is suggested by this study to improve such conditions.
This research investigates the strategy for application of E-Trade to SMEs to analyze the economic effect of e-trade. And the influence of the proliferation of e-business and e-trade upon the industrial business conditions, value-chain, and business activities is also analyzed. The subjects of the inquiry are the nationwide petrochemical industries in which small and medium sized companies are in mutual and intimate cooperation. The results show that the business structure of the petrochemical industries are divided into four stages, and, with the introduction of e-business, the value chain is changed by stages. And the change of value-chain explains the transition of the e-business of petrochemical industries including trade business into industrial DB and leads to a variety of the economic effect including the reduction in the trade expense, the change of the production process, and the innovation of trade structure.

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the characteristics of Korean petroleum and petrochemical industries and the change of participation in global value chains. Since 1960s, Korean petroleum and petrochemical industries have been developed under government's industrial policies. In 1980s Korean petroleum and petrochemical industries served as a key export-oriented industry) of Korea's national economic development. Based on the expansion of large-scale production facilities led by the private sectors from the end of 1980s, Korea became as a major country in the global petroleum and petrochemical industries. Under Korean domestic scale, it shows considerable spatial concentration, in Ulsan Metropolitan City, Yeosu City and Seosan City. However, the degree of spatial concentration is differentiated along the each sectors within the petroleum and petrochemical industry. To improve regional industry competitiveness, each region has adopted different strategies and shifted to structural upgrading and producting high value-added products. Changes in the structure within petroleum and the petrochemical industries at the national level caused a change in the structure of Korea's participation in GVC, but the domestic value-added is lower than that of its major competitors.

This study was conducted to investigate the benzene exposure levels in coal chemical and petrochemical refining industries during BTX turnaround (TA) processes where benzene was being produced. Three companies producing benzene were selected, one coal chemical and two petrochemical industries. TA processes were classified into three stages: shut down, maintenance, and start up. Data was analyzed by classifying the refining method into 2 groups (Petrochemistry, Coal chemistry) for 823 workers. Comparing the data from petrochemical industries with data from a coal chemical refining industry, while benzene concentration levels of long-term samples during TA were not statistically different (p> 0.05), those levels of short-term samples were significantly different (p< 0.001). About 4.79 % of data in petrochemical industries exceed the occupational exposure limits (OELs) of benzene, 1 ppm. In a coal refining methods, about 15.7% exceeded the benzene OELs. The benzene concentrations in maintenance and start up stage of TA for petrochemical refineries were higher than those in a coal chemical refinery (p <0.01). These findings suggest that the coal chemical refining site requires more stringent work practice controls compare to petrochemical refining sites during TA processes. Personal protective equipments including organic respirators should be used by TA workers to protect them from benzene overexposure.
This paper seeks to recommend strategic policy options geared towards enhancing sophistication level of Ulsan City's major export industries in the Republic of Korea. Ulsan's major export industries, including shipbuilding, automobile and petrochemical industries, turn out to be based mostly on low to medium technology with low R&D intensity suggesting relatively low level of product sophistication. Using a recent Eurostat high-tech industry classification table which suggests 9 high-tech industries, the paper identifies Ulsan's chemical industry as the only RCA industry. Focusing on chemical industry products at HS 6-digit level, specific products are identified at the efficiency frontier for future policy considerations.

Without a special mineral resources in Korea, such as petrochemical industries, electronics and automotive industries to supply the basic material, but remains a key industry locations. Gongjeongsang dealing with hazardous materials, such as a fire or explosion hazard, and from this site sangjonhae safety regulations to protect human and material disaster prevention activities are focused. However, depending on the actual implementation of standardized safety regulations as necessary if not originally intended, proper objectivity and reliability of safety regulations, as well as impaired resulting in a waste of public and private administrative power and petrochemical industries and the competitiveness of the entire drop factor will. Accordingly, this study petrochemical plant is applied to a representative safety regulations, items for their safety are needed and these regulations as being implemented that was identified, according to a study, some of the need for regulation and implementation both in terms of reliability was low.
The organic impurities are formed in the p-xylene oxidation process to terephthalic acid(TPA) and they are present in the filtrate(mother liquor) solution or the TPA particles. The organic impurities present in the p-xylene oxidation are formed through side reactions or incomplete reaction. In this study, the main organic impurities, such as benzoic acid, p-toluic acid, p-tolualdehyde, 4-carboxybenzaldehyde, phthalic acid, isophthalic acid, trimellitic acid, and 4-hydroxymethyl benzoic acid were identified simultaneously by gas chromatograghy. The above impurities were reacted with bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide in the mixture of internal standard solution and pyridine solution by trimethylsilylation, where the internal standard solution was made by 99% bis (trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide and 1% trimethylchlorosilane. The main organic impurities above mentioned can be analyzed quantitatively within 50 min.
This paper presents a set of typical pseudo-accident scenarios related to major equipments in petrochemical plants, which would be useful for performing such quantitative risk analysis techniques as fault tree analysis, event tree analysis, etc. These typical scenarios address what the main hazard of each equipment might be and how the accident might develop from an "initiating event". The proposed set of accident scenarios consists of total thirteen (13) scenarios specific for five (5) major equipments like reactor, distillation column, etc., and has been determined and screened out of one hundred and twenty-five (125) potential accident scenarios that were generated by performing semi-quantitative risk analysis practically for twenty-five (25) petrochemical processes, considering advices from the operation experts. It is assumed that with simple consideration or incorporation of plant-specific conditions only, the proposed accident scenarios could be easily reorganized or adapted for the relevant process with less time and labor by the safety engineers concerned in the petrochemical industries.ndustries.
Recently, Environmental and Safety Management is approaching in order to reduce the loss cost of accidents in effect, efficiency, excellency. In the side that is a large production enemy of the industrialization times, Most companies are focused on decreasing the loss that can let their companies grow healthily than a productivity improvement. The this study analyzed a matter asked f3r basic requirements and continuous development of ISO14001, OHSAS18001, PSM, Responsible Care operating in petro-chemical industries basically, and developed a LCMCI(the Loss Control Management system for Continuous Improvement of the Petro-chemical Industries) fer continuous development of petro-chemical companies in order to be able to continuously manage a loss.
In 2007, 94% of organic wastewater sludge from industries located in Ulsan was disposed of by ocean dump. The ocean dump of organic sludge would be totally prohibited by the year of 2012. However, there is no alternative but incinerating the sludge from the industries located in Ulsan. Securing the technology for sludge treatment and on-land disposal is very important issue among the industries in the Ulsan Petrochemical Industry Complex. In this study, the material aspects of dried and carbonized sludge as a fuel were evaluated for petrochemical and sewage sludge from Ulsan. The dried and carbonized sludges from the factories producing terephthalic acid, BTX, propylene, chemical textile, etc. of which the low heat value exceeded 3,000 kcal/kg had high potential as a fuel according to the results of thermal characteristic analysis. However, the dried sludges with heat values lower than 2,100 kcal/kg and carbonized sludges, lower than 1,100 kcal/kg containing more Inorganic material from the industries producing pulp, paper, methylamine, amide, etc. had a little potential to be used as a fuel. In most cases, drying the sludge showed better results than carbonization in the aspect of thermal characteristics of sludge.
