This study was carried out to determine the economic injury level and economic threshold level on beet (Beta vulgaris L.) infested with Spoladea recurvalis in the plastic greenhouse condition in 2010. The second instar larvae of S. recurvalis were inoculated with 7 different density levels on the each 10 beet plants as a replication. Injury levels of beet leaves and density of S. recurvalis were increased with the inoculation density of S. recurvalis. However, yield and marketable commodity of beet were decreased. Linear relationship between the percent yield reduction (Y) of beet leaves and different infestation densities of S. recurvalis (X) was estimated by the following equation Y = 1.226x + 3.36. Based on the relationships between the densities of S. recurvalis larvae and yield index of beet leaves, the number of second instar larvae which caused 5% loss of yield, economic threshold level was estimated as 1.1 larvae/10 plants for the planting 10 days. The percent yield reduction (Y) of beet roots infested with different densities of S. recurvalis (X) estimated by the following equation Y = 1.537x + 1.4634 after inoculation for 10 days at 3rd harvesting of leaves. Based on the relationships between the densities of S. recurvalis larvae and yield index of beet roots, the number of second instar larvae which caused 5% loss of yield, economic threshold level was estimated as 6.4 larvae/10 plants for the planting 10 days.
Nobel series of 5-benzyloxymethyl-3-(thiophen-5-yl)-1,2-isoxazoline derivatives were designed and synthesized. The herbicidal activities of these compounds to main dominant weeds to these compounds were evaluated in pot tests that simulated rice paddy conditions. Most of the compounds showed high herbicidal activity to main dominant weeds occurring in rice field without the serious rice injury.

Copper sulfate is widely used as a fungicide and pesticide. Acute copper sulfate poisoning is rare but potentially lethal in severe cases. Copper sulfate can lead to cellular damage of red blood cells, hepatocytes, and myocytes. Toxic effects include intravascular hemolysis, acute tubular necrosis and, rhabdomyolysis. A 76-year-old man presented with vomiting and epigastric pain. He had ingested a copper-containing fungicide (about 13.5 g of copper sulfate) while attempting suicide 2 hours prior to presentation. From day 3 at the hospital, laboratory findings suggesting intravascular hemolysis were noted with increased serum creatinine level. He was treated with a chelating agent, dimercaptosuccinic acid (succimer). His anemia and acute kidney injury gradually resolved with a 19-day regimen of succimer. Our case suggests that succimer can be used for copper sulfate poisoning when other chelating agents are not available.
New series of 9-(5-Isoxazolemethoxyphenyl)imino-8-thia-l,6-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]nonan-7-one which are the cyclic imide type compounds were designed and synthesized. The herbicidal activities of main dominant weeds to these compounds were evaluated under rice field condition. There is the possibility for a new herbicide since the most of compounds were excellent to main dominant weeds occurring in rice field without the serious rice injury.
Laboratory and greenhouse experiments were conducted to determine the herbicidal effect of two types of ${\delta}$-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), microbiologically-produced ALA (Bio-ALA) and synthetically produced ALA (Synthetic-ALA), on plant growth and chlorophyll content of Chinese cabbage. ALA effect on early plant growth was greatly concentration dependant, showing significant inhibition at higher concentrations. Both pre- and post-emergence application of ALA exhibited significant degree of photodynamic phytotoxicity. Older plants with many leaves were more tolerant to ALA than younger plants, showing less injury. No significant difference in herbicidal activity of two types of ALA, Bio-ALA and Synthetic-ALA, on plant height and chlorophyll content of Chinese cabbage was observed. However, residual biological activity and physico-chemical properties of Synthetic-ALA were more stable than those of Bio-ALA. Our results suggest that ALA had herbicidal potential with both pre- and post-emergence application, and that the chemical may be a valuable mean of eco-friendly weed control based on natural microbial substance.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of acid rain in spraying copper hydroxide 77% wettable power(WP) on leaf surface morphology and crop injury of the garlic(Allium sativum L.). Leaf chlorosis, hooked leaves, wrinkled epidermal cells and increased stomata open of garlic were induced by foliar application of simulated acid rain(SAR). It was become to be severe in application of copper hydroxide solution after application of SAR, but those yield of garlic was not significantly different from the untreated control. Leaf chlorosis was sharply increased above 100 ppm of copper ions. Amount of solved copper ions in copper hydroxide solution was remarkably increased below pH 5.5 and the residue in garlic leaves was significantly increased by application of copper hydroxide solution after spraying SAR compared with application of copper hydroxide solution only. When calcium carbonate was applied together with copper hydroxide leaf chlorosis was less than copper hydroxide only.

Occurrence, Injury aspects and control effect of some chemicals were investigated on tomato in plastic house from 1997 to 1998. Adults trapped by yellow sticky trap and sweeping net were increased from late May abruptly. Survey of population densities by yellow sticky trap was more clear than sweeping net. Damaged leaves were found out all the year round in continuous cropping fields and rate of damaged leaves was below 20% in early April and increased gradually up to 80% level after late May. Otherwise, damaged leaves were appeared from 6 weeks after transplanting in first growing field and then damaged leaves was 80% level in spring culture. In autumn culture, rate of damaged leaves was maintained 80% level from transplanting to harvesting date regardless of cultivation years. Number of adults was trapped from late May and peak was late June but mature larva was $6{\sim}8$ individuals in spring culture. In autumn culture, adult and larval densities was maintained high for 3 weeks after transplanting but begun to decrease from 4 weeks(early September). Chlorfenapyr EC, cyromazine WP and abamectin EC could suppress larval populations of Liriomyza trifolii effectively.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the epidemiologic characteristics of patients who visited emergency departments (EDs) after intentional poisoning in Korea. Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed the data of of 23 hospitals during a five-year period, between 2011 and 2015. We included patients who inflicted injury to themselves - attempt of suicide - by means of poisoning. Results: A total of 18,121 patients visited an ED after intentional poisoning. Among them, 58.3% were females; however, there were more males among those aged 60 years or older. The mortality rate for males was 8.6%, which was 3.1 times higher than that for females with 2.8%. The most common poison was pesticides (35.4%) in males and sedative-hypnotics (44.0%) in females. The most common causative agent of death was pesticide in both sexes (75.2% and 65.3%, respectively). Since the production of paraquat was discontinued in 2011, the number of deaths from pesticide poisoning has decreased. The mortality rate declined in both males and females, from 12.6% and 4.5% in 2011 to 7.1% and 2.1% in 2015, respectively. Conclusion: In this study, we analyzed the epidemiologic characteristics of intentional poisoning, especially the frequency of suicide attempts by gender and age group, the cause of suicide, and the causative agent. This can be used as basic data for establishing policies to reduce and prevent suicide attempts by poisoning.

Objective: We compared the prevalence of injury and poisoning in the agricultural and fishery population with that of the general population. Methods: The national health insurance data and agricultufor this study. The age-adjusted standardized morbidity ratio was used to compare the prevalence of all injuries and poisonings of the agricultural and fishery population with that of the general population for the year 2002, as well as the prevalence of certain injuries and poisonings common to the agricultural and fishery population. The age-adjusted standardized morbidity ratio and 95% confidence intervals were attained by using the general population as the standard population group. Results: The age-adjusted standardized morbidity ratio of total injuries and poisonings was significantly high in the agriculture and fishery population. The standardized morbidity ratio was 137.6 in the male agriculture and fishery population and 123.3 in the female agriculture and fishery population. In terms of injuries and poisonings common to the agriculture and fishery population, the age-adjusted standardized morbidity ratio was significantly high regarding the dislocations and strains of lumbar spine/pelvis, shoulder and neck, the fracture of rib/thoracic spine/sternum and pesticide poisoning. Conclusions: The overall prevalence of injury/poisoning was significantly higher in the agriculture and fishery population than in the general population. Various forms of research should be conducted on the injuries of the agriculture and fishery population in the future. In order to compare the differences in the prevalence rates of injuries according to time and region, standard definitions of injuries and occupation related injuries are required.
Insect pests damages are increasing on the field of Lycium chinense under environment- friendly management Thus, we was to monitor the occurrence of pests on organic L. chinense in Chungnam Cheongyang and, insecticidal effect of eco-friendly agricultural materials (EFAMs) were tested against major pests. When the buds come out, injury by L. chinense was very high causing the high population density of Myzus persicae in late May and early June, and the injury by Lema decempunctata was increased from mid-June. Otherwise, injuries by Eriophys macrodonis, Henosepilachna vigintioctomaculata and Hedma spp. were continued throughout the growing season. From the fruit held in late July, Hemipteran insects including Plautia stali and Halyomorpba balys were sucking the fruit, and their injury to L. chinense were gradually increased. For the eco-friendly environmental control of M. persicae, L. decempunctata and E. macrodonis, EFAMs containing Sophora flavescens, Melia azedarach (Chinaberry), Chenopodium ambrosioides (Mexican tea), Quassia amara (Amargo), Stemona sessilifolia, Sophora seeds and Nepeta cataria (Catmint), were selected and used to control the insect pests. Control effects of the mixed extract with S. flavescens and Sophora seeds against M. persicae and L. decempunctata were higher than any other EFAM as 84.0% and 86.6%, respectively. In case of E. macrodonis, its control effect was good with the mixed extract with S. flavescens, C. ambrosioides and M. azedarach.
