  • Hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) was studied phenomenologically and the effect of microstructure on HIC was discussed for the steels having two different levels of nonmetallic inclusions. Steels having different microstructures were produced by thermomechanically controlled processes (TMCP) from two different heats which had the different level of nonmetallic inclusions. Ferrite/pearlite (F/P), ferrite/acicular ferrite (F/AF), ferrite/bainite (F/B) were three representative microstructures for all tested steels. For the steels with higher level of inclusions, permissible inclusion level for HIC not to develop was different according to steelmicrostructure. On the contrary, HIC occurred also at the martensite/austenite (M/A) constituents regardless of steel microstructure when they accumulated to a certain degree. It was proved that M/A constituents were easily embrittled by hydrogen atoms. Steels having F/AF is resistant to HIC at a given actual service condition since they covers a wide range of diffusible hydrogen content without developing HIC.

  • 3-Monochloro-1,2-propanediol(3-MCPD) is currently being a matter of concern because of its toxicity. 3-MCPD produced during the acid hydrolysis of soybean products has been reported to be mutagenic, neurotoxic, nephrotoxic and spermatotoxic. Howerer, the carcinogenicity of 3-MCPD is a controversial issue over the past several decades. 3-MCPD characteristically showed a variety of toxicities in reproductive system such as, decrease in sperm number and sperm motility, infertility, loss of sperm function, and weight decrease in ovary. Due to the toxicity of 3-MCPD, exposure to 3-MCPD has been proposed to be reduced to as low a level as technologically feasible. 3-MCPD can be detected in soy sauce or non-soy sauce products. The legal limit for 3-MCPD this year has been suggested to be 20 ppb($\mu\textrm{g}$/kg)in the European Community. In Korea, the permissible level of 3-MCPD is expected to be 0.3 ppm. In this study, 3-MCPD was toxicologically evaluated in terms of risk assessment in humans.

  • In this paper, a modelling technique for simulating self-propelled ships in waves is presented. The flow is modelled using a RANS solver coupled with an actuator disk model for the propeller. The motion of the ship is taken into consideration in the definition of the actuator disk region as well as the advance ratio of the propeller. The RPM of the propeller is controlled using a PID-controller with constraints added on the maximum permissible RPM increase rate. Results are presented for a freely surging model in regular waves with different constraints put on the PID-controller. The described method shows promising results and allows for the studying of several factors relating to self-propulsion. However, more validation data is needed to judge the accuracy of the model.

  • The notion of infinitely near singular points, classical in the case of plane curves, has been generalized to higher dimensions in my earlier articles ([5], [6], [7]). There, some basic techniques were developed, notably the three technical theorems which were Differentiation Theorem, Numerical Exponent Theorem and Ambient Reduction Theorem [7]. In this paper, using those results, we will prove the Finite Presentation Theorem, which the auther believes is the first of the most important milestones in the general theory of infinitely near singular points. The presentation is in terms of a finitely generated graded algebra which describes the total aggregate of the trees of infinitely near singular points. The totality is a priori very complex and intricate, including all possible successions of permissible blowing-ups toward the reduction of singularities. The theorem will be proven for singular data on an ambient algebraic shceme, regular and of finite type over any perfect field of any characteristics. Very interesting but not yet apparent connections are expected with many such works as ([1], [8]).

  • In this paper, a fast migration method is proposed. Our method executes local relocation on a model placement where an additional module is added to it for modification with a minimum number of displacements. This method is based on mean-field annealing (MFA), which produces a solution as reliable as a previously used method called simulated annealing. The proposed method requires substantially less time and hardware, and it is less sensitive to the initial and final temperatures. In addition, the solution runtime is mostly independent of the size and complexity of the input model placement. Our proposed MFA algorithm is optimized by enabling module rotation inside an energy function called permissible distances preservation energy. This, in turn, allows more options in moving the engaged modules. Finally, a three-phase cooling process governs the convergence of problem variables called neurons or spins.

  • Conceived to acquire personal information for an electronic medical record, the clinical interview contains probing questions. The number and type of inquiries are assumed to fulfill medical protocols, and therefore are deemed essential for treatment - but the rate can and should be controlled. High rates of inquiry merely intimidate the patient and affect replies. The purpose of this paper is to mathematically formulate permissible rates of clinical interviews held during telehomecare virtual visits and designed to avoid patient anxiety. Mental stress is derived as a function of the weight of importance assigned by the patient, virtual visit duration, and the rate of questioning in the direction of greater sensitivity. Two operations are of interest: Collecting and recording information by the provider, and maintaining synchrony of questions and answers by the patient. The Lorentz transformation yields the patient’s view of the operational rates. Conservation of information momentum is postulated and applied before and after replies are recorded. It is shown that the weight of importance designated by the patient to collecting and recording personal information is driven by a singularity that depends on the rate of questioning. The findings should serve as a guideline in interviewer training programs.

  • During the construction of externally prestressed 7-span continuous segmental bridge, cracks beyond permissible limit were found at anchor zone of expansion joint segment. To eliminate this problem, tension side of diaphragm was prestressed by post-tensioning bars in vertical and horizontal direction. To investigate this remedy is acceptable, stresses of reinforcing bars and concrete surface were measured for the real structure in the field. The measurement was performed through each step of prestressing sequence during construction. Also to investigage stresses induced by live load, static load test was performed and the results was analyzed. In this paper it will be presented the procedure and results for this experimental study along with comparison with analytical study.

  • By operation in aqueous environment at high temperature and pressure, the structural materials from Primary Heat Transport System (PHTS) cover with protective oxide films, which maintain the corrosion rate in admissible limits. A lot of potential factors exist, which conduct to degradation of the protective films and consequently to intensification of the corrosion processes. The existing experience of different nuclear reactors shows that the water chemistry has an important role in integrity maintaining of the protective oxide films. To investigate the influence of water chemistry (pH, O2 dissolved, $Cl^-$, $F^-$) on corrosion of some structural materials (carbon and martensitic steel, Zr and Ni alloys) and to establish the maximum permissible values, corrosion experiments by static autoclaving and electrochemical methods were performed. The experimental results allowed us to establish the contribution of the water chemistry in initiation and evolution of some accelerated corrosion processes.

  • A new active power filter (APF) circuit with a current compesation estimation method is proposed. The current compensation estimation method replaces a current sensor with an estimating circuit and therefore reduces the implementation cost In addition, a simple control scheme, based on the energy balance concept, is adopted to control the voltage of a DC capacitor. Therefore energy change in the DC capacitor can be compensanted in the next cycle. Since a sampling technique is used, a larger DC capacitor voltage ripple can be permissible and a relatively smaller DC capacitor can be used. The proposed method has advantages of the reduction of one current sensor, low implementation cost, and fast transient responses. The theoretical analysis and simulation results are given. The proposed control method is successfully verified by computer simulation.
