Objective: This study aimed to determine whether there are regional differences in the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability of cognitively normal elderly participants and to identify factors influencing BBB permeability with a clinically feasible, 10-minute dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI protocol. Materials and Methods: This IRB-approved prospective study recruited 35 cognitively normal adults (26 women; mean age, 64.5 ± 5.6 years) who underwent DCE T1-weighted imaging. Permeability maps (Ktrans) were coregistered with masks to calculate the mean regional values. The paired t test and Friedman test were used to compare Ktrans between different regions. The relationships between Ktrans and the factors of age, sex, education, cognition score, vascular risk burden, vascular factors on imaging, and medial temporal lobar atrophy were assessed using Pearson correlation and the Spearman rank test. Results: The mean permeability rates of the right and left hippocampi, as assessed with automatic segmentation, were 0.529 ± 0.472 and 0.585 ± 0.515 (Ktrans, x 10-3 min-1), respectively. Concerning the deep gray matter, the Ktrans of the thalamus was significantly greater than those of the putamen and hippocampus (p = 0.007, p = 0.041). Regarding the white matter, the Ktrans value of the occipital white matter was significantly greater than those of the frontal, cingulate, and temporal white matter (p < 0.0001, p = 0.0007, p = 0.0002). The variations in Ktrans across brain regions were not related to age, cognitive score, vascular risk burden, vascular risk factors on imaging, or medial temporal lobar atrophy in the study group. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated regional differences in BBB permeability (Ktrans) in cognitively normal elderly adults using a clinically acceptable 10-minutes DCE imaging protocol. The regional differences suggest that the integrity of the BBB varies across the brains of cognitively normal elderly adults. We recommend considering regional differences in Ktrans values when evaluating BBB permeability in patients with neurodegenerative diseases.

Background: Bioprostheses for cardiovascular surgery have limitations in their use following as calicification. ${\alpha}$-galactosidase epitope is known as a stimulant of immune response and then shows a progressing calcification. The objective of this study was to evaluate histologic characteristics and mechanical properties of decellularization and treated with ${\alpha}$-galactosidase. Materials and Methods: Bovine pericardial tissues were allocated into three groups: fixation only with glutaraldehyde, decellularization with sodium dodesyl sulfate and decellularization plus treatment with ${\alpha}$-galactosidase. We confirmed immunohistological characteristics and mechanical properties as fatigue test, permeability test, compliance test, tensile strength (strain) test and thermal stability test. Results: Decellularization and elimination of ${\alpha}$-gal were confirmed through immunohistologic findings. Decellularization had decreased mechanical properties compared to fixation only group in permeability (before fatigue test p=0.02, after fatigue test p=0.034), compliance (after fatigue test p=0.041), and tensile strength test (p=0.00). The group of decellularization plus treatment with ${\alpha}$-galactosidase had less desirable mechanical properties than the group of decellularization in concerns of permeability (before fatigue test p=0.043) and strain test (p=0.001). Conclusion: Favorable decellularization and elimination of ${\alpha}$-gal were obtained in this study through immunohistologic findings. However, those treatment including decellularization and elimination of ${\alpha}$-gal implied the decreased mechanical properties in specific ways. We need more study to complete appropriate bioprosthesis with decellularization and elimination of ${\alpha}$-gal including favorable mechanical properties too.
It is useful to detect defects of a preform for resin transfer molding before and after placement into the mold. To conduct this test, the gas flow method has been developed. This method not only measures permeability but also detects defects utilizing the pressure readings obtained from the gas flow test. This paper introduces the methodology and examine the applicability to actual processes.

During the carbonation process in concrete, the rate of carbonation depends on porosity and moisture content of the concrete. For underground reinforced concrete structures, the interior concrete surface may be exposed to carbonation and the exterior concrete surface exposed to moisture due to wet soil or underground water. In this study, the permeability coefficients in mortar partially carbonated is derived as a function of carbonation depth and porosity of mortar by applying the so-called micro pore structure formation model (MPSFM) which was developed for the modeling of early-aged concrete. The permeability coefficient obtained from the micro-level modeling of carbonated mortar is verified with the results of accelerated carbonation test and water penetration test in cement mortar.

Concretes with binary blends of Portland cement, silica fume, fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag were produce to investigate their effects on compressive strength and chloride transport in rapid chloride permeability. Ten different mix of concrete with 0.45 water/binder were produced. Portland cement was replacedby: (i) 10%, 20%, 30% Fly ash (ii) 3%, 5%, 10% Silica Fume (iii) 20%, 40%, 60% GGBS. Compressive strength of concrete with the pozzolans is higher compared to that of the Portland cement concrete. The test results indicate the fly ash, silica fume, and ground granulated furnace slag greatly reduce the rapid chloride permeability of concrete. It was concluded that pozzolans are more effective to reduce chloride permeability of concrete.

In this study, the combined electrokinetic and ultrasonic remediation technique onto simple soil flushing was studied for the enhancement of water and liquid flows and the removal of contaminants in contaminated soils. The ultrasonic technique has been used to increase liquid flow and remove pollutants in contaminated soil. The laboratory soil flushing tests combined electrokinetic and ultrasonic technique were conducted using specially designed and fabricated devices to determine the effect of these both techniques. A series of laboratory permeability experiments involving the simple, electrokinetic, ultrasonic, and electrokinetic & ultrasonic flushing test were carried out. A soil admixed with sand and kaolin was used as a test specimen, and Pb and ethylene glycol were used as contaminants. An increase in out flow, permeability and contaminant removal rate was observed in electrokinetic and ultrasonic flushing tests.
These studies were conducted to investigate the antiinflammatory effects and the mechanism of action of natural products. We used the methods of "carrageenan induced foot edema" , "PAF (platelet activating factor) induced foot edema" , "inhibition test of vascular permeability" , "inhibition test of white blood cell migration" , "formation of granuloma" and "adjuvant induced arthritis" to examine the antiinflammatory erects of Angelica gigas, Ledebouriella seseloides, Ginkgo biloba and Bamboo salt (Jukyom). The oral administration of the water extract of Angelica gigantis radix, the methanolic extract of Ginkgo folium and the aqueous solution of Bamboo salt showed antiinflammatory effect on carrageenan and PAF induced foot edema in SD rat at a dose of 1 g/kg. The same administration of methanolic extract of Ginkgo folium also inhibited the vascular permeability in mice. The aqueous solution of Bamboo salt inhibited the formation of ganuloma in SD rats at a oral dose of 1 g/kg. Angelica gigantis radix seems to have antiinflammatory effect by inhibition of PAF.

In this paper, result of whole test, When the Transfer Distance is increasing, Strength of Backfilling Material of NATM Composite lining Tunnel due to increasing Gravity was increased, but that is higher the Air Flotation than increasing Strength. So, That was predicted a drop of Permeability. And Performing the placing Lightweight Foamed Mortar, we think that it's performance in drain material was lost. Therefore We conclude that Proper Transfer Distance that taking Permeability through minimizing of Air Flotation Loss and getting the Need Strength is 50m.
This study aims to evaluate the applicability of a grout material that is mixed with carbon fiber, biogrout, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) powder and cement. Uniaxial compressive strength tests were performed on homo-gel samples at days of 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28. In addition, the variation of permeability with the mixing ratios was measured. Based on the uniaxial compressive strength test, it was confirmed that the uniaxial compressive strength increased by 1.2times when carbon fiber increased by 1%. In addition, as a result of the permeability test, it was found that when the GGBS increased by 20%, the permeability coefficient decreased by about 1.5times. Therefore, the developed grout material can be used as a cutoff grouting material in the field due to its strength and cut-off effect.
