  • We study the problem of optimal opportunistic spectrum access with unknown and heterogeneous channel dynamics in cognitive radio networks. There is neither statistic information about the licensed channels nor information exchange among secondary users in the respective systems. We formulate the problem of maximizing network throughput. To achieve the desired optimization, we propose a win-shift lose-stay algorithm based only on rewards. The key point of the algorithm is to make secondary users tend to shift to another channel after receiving rewards from the current channel. The optimality and the convergence of the proposed algorithm are proved. The simulation results show that for both heterogeneous and homogenous systems the proposed win-shift lose-stay algorithm has better performance in terms of throughput and fairness than an existing algorithm.

  • This paper deals with the problem of placement/sizing of distributed piezo actuators to achieve the control objective of vibration suppression. Using the mean square response as a performance index in optimization, we obtain optimal placement and sizing of the actuator. The use of genetic algorithms as a technique for solving optimization problems of placement and sizing is explored. Genetic algorithms are also used for the control strategy. The analysis of the system and response moment equations are carried out by using the Fokker-Planck equation. This paper presents the design and analysis of an active controller and optimal placement/sizing of distributed piezo actuators based on genetic algorithms for a flexible structure under random disturbance, shows numerical example and the result.

  • Scalability of clustering algorithms is critical issues facing the data mining community. This is particularly true for computationally intense tasks such as data clustering. Random sampling of instances is one possible means of achieving scalability but a pervasive problem with this approach is how to deal with the noise that this introduces in the evaluation of the learning algorithm. This paper develops a new optimization based clustering approach using an algorithms specifically designed for noisy performance. Numerical results illustrate that with this algorithm substantial benefits can be achieved in terms of computational time without sacrificing solution quality.

  • Automated parking systems, which automatically park and retrieve vehicles, have been steadily replacing conventional parking systems. The spiral parking system is a type of automated parking systems that has cylindrical parking tower. We develop an economic design model of spiral parking system based on a recursive optimization and simulation procedure in which the dynamic nature of the parking system can be integrated into the mathematical programming model. The optimal values of design parameters are found that gives the minimum total cost while complying with the desired performance of the system.

  • The assembly line is one of the typical process hard to analyze with mathematical methods including even stochastic approaches, because it includes many manual operations varying drastically depending on operators' skills. In this paper, we suggest the simulation optimization method to design the optimal assembly line of a gas oven. To achieve the optimal design, firstly, we modeled the real gas oven assembly line with actual data, such as assembly procedures, operation rules, and other input parameters and so on. Secondly, we build some alternatives to enhance the line performance based on business rules and other parameters. The DOE(Design Of Experiment) techniques were used for testing alternatives under various situations. Each alternatives performed optimization process with evolution strategy; one of the GA(Genetic Algorithm) techniques. As a result, we can make about 7% of throughputs up with the same time and cost. By this process, we expect the assembly line can obtain the solution compatible with their own problems.

  • In many applications of simulation-optimization, when comparing two or more alternatives, it is crucial to be able to estimate the confidence intervals on the outputs of interest with a reasonable level of accuracy. This acuracy has often been tested by the closeness of the coverage of the estimated confidence interval to the intended coverage. In this paper two variations to the Batch-Means Method of estimating the confidence intervals are presented and their performance are compared with the original method. The results indicate that the Batch Means Method modified by factors obtained by a second order autoregressive method is superior to the original and the one modified based on factors obtained from autocorrelation analysis.

  • Robust design in industry is an a, pp.oach to reducing performance variation of quality characteristic value in products and processes. Taguchi has used the signal-to-noise raio(SN) to achieve the a, pp.opriate set of operating conditions where variablity around target is low in the Taguchi parameter design. Taguchi has dealt with having constraints on both the mean and variability of a characteristic (the dual response problem) by combining information on both mean and variability into an SN. Many Statisticians criticize the Taguchi techniques of analysis, particularly those based on the SN. In this paper we propose a substantially simpler optimization procedure for robust design to solve the dual response problems without resorting to SN. Two examples illustrate this procedure in the two different experimental design(product array, combined array) a, pp.oaches.

To do this, the noise from cars to distinguish them by category, characteristics of turbo charger was designed to reduce noise. In order for the design of acoustic modeling using line dynamics, was analyzed using In house & the commercial software programs. Silencers have about several basic elements. Expand, collapse, perforated plate, and the combination are the basic reactive or dissipative elements. Finally, DFSS(design for six sigma) method was designed. and it was verified in vehicle test. The new developed silencers showed good performance vehicle test results. also, the net cost also indicated excellent results compared with other company.
