Assessment of seismic design coefficients for composite special moment frames with reinforced concrete columns and steel beams: Evaluation of code recommendations

  • The main aim of this study is to quantify the code seismic design coefficients of the RCS system, which consisted of reinforced concrete columns and steel beams, based on the FEMA P-695 methodology. The underlying intention is to evaluate the seismic performance of the RCS system at the system level rather than the connection level. A set of 24 archetype buildings with a various number of stories, beam span lengths, gravity load levels, and seismic load levels are selected and designed based on the prevailing code requirements. Nonlinear analytical models are developed and validated by experimental tests. The pushover and response history dynamic analyses are conducted to evaluate the required data in the performance quantification process. The results show that the design coefficients suggested by the code are acceptable. However, the level of conservatism is very high. Thus, it is possible to use a larger R-factor in the design process or make some relaxations in the design requirements related to this structural system.

  • In this study a procedure for evaluation of performance point using direct displacement-based design method was developed to enhance the applicability of the method. Parametric study has been performed for the natural period of the structure, yield strength, and the stiffness after the first yield. The proposed method was also applied to a 10-story steel frame. To verify the accuracy of the result, the results from capacity spectrum analysis and time history analysis were compared. The results of the proposed method turned out to match well with the results of capacity spectrum method and the time history analysis.

  • This study evaluated the impedance characteristics of earth termination system and developed a variable frequency-typed inverter (measuring tool) for the utilization in ground design for lightning protection. The variable-frequency-typed inverter were composed of rectification part, voltage adjuster, IGBT controller and measuring part. Meanwhile, the square wave signal of variable frequency converted its frequency up to lightning surge band by using an IGBT after rectifying an alternating current (AC). It conducted performance evaluation of ground impedance of actual earth termination system by using the developed measuring tool for ground impedance and confirmed that such impedance-oriented performance evaluation was effective in the design of lightning protection.

  • 현재 전 세계적으로 석탄, 석유 등 화석연료의 사용으로 지구 온난화가 진행되고 있다. 이러한 원인으로 폭염, 폭설, 폭우 및 슈퍼태풍 등과 같은 이상기후, 극한기후 현상이 지속적으로 증가 하고 있다. 또한 심각한 자연재해로 콘크리트 구조물 및 사회기반시설의 심각한 손상과 붕괴가 발생한다. 이러한 문제들을 해결하기 위해서는 기후변화에 적합한 기준 및 시공 기술 등이 필요한 실정이므로 본 연구에서는 다양한 온도와 습도 양생조건이 콘크리트 배합에 미치는 영향을 검토해 보았다. 다양한 온도와 습도 조건에서 양생된 콘크리트의 압축강도와 할렬인장강도 실험을 수행하였다. 또한 성능중심평가 (performance based evaluation (PBE))방법을 사용하여 다양한 양생조건에서 경화된 콘크리트 강도의 만족도확률을 평가하였다. 또한 콘크리트의 성능중심평가로부터 얻는 결과 값을 바탕으로 기후변화가 배합에 미치는 영향을 고려하여 배합설계에 적용할 수 있다.

스토리지 성능 평가지침 개발 연구 (A Study on Development of the Evaluation Guideline for the Storage Performance)

  • 본 연구에서는 스토리지 성능평가에 필요한 대표적인 성능지표로 IOPS 및 MB/s 을 결정하고 이를 평가하기 위한 지침을 개발하였다. 현재, 벤더 중립적인 스토리지 평가기준이 없기 때문에 스토리지 성능평가나 스토리지 자원 규모를 설계하는데 어려움이 있었다. 연구결과, OLTP 응용에 활용되는 스토리지는 IOPS를 성능지표로 하고 측정을 위한 블록크기는 4KB, 8KB, 16KB, 읽기대쓰기 비율은 7:3으로 측정하는 것을 제안하였다. 한편, 백업, VOD, LFP(Large File Processing) 과 같은 대용량 처리 응용에 사용되는 스토리지는 MB/s를 성능지표로 하고, 측정을 위한 블록크기는 64KB, 256KB, 1,024KB 으로 하고 읽기대 쓰기 비율은 1:0 으로 하는 것을 제안하였다. 끝으로 개발된 평가지침을 이용한 측정결과보고서 양식을 개발하였으며 측정도구로는 플랫홈에 비종속적인 Vdvench 측정도구를 제안하였다.

개착식 전력구의 내진성능 평가 및 내진 안전성 검증 (Study on Seismic Performance Evaluation and Verification of Seismic Safety for Power Cable Tunnels)

  • 본 논문에서는 내진설계가 고려되어 있지 않은 전력구를 포함한 기설 개착식 전력구 100개소를 대상으로, 정부의 요구수준(내진 특등급, 0.22 g)을 만족하는지 확인하기 위하여 내진성능 평가를 수행하였다. 내진성능 평가 결과, 대상 전력구들은 대부분 0.3-1 g의 내진성능을 보유하고 있는 것으로 나타나, 내진 특등급 수준을 만족하였으며 내진안전성을 확보하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 응답변위법에 의한 전력구의 내진성능 평가 방법 및 결과에 대한 타당성을 확인하고, 전력구의 내진 안전성을 검증하기 위한 지진응답 해석 및 구조실험을 수행하였다. 그 결과 0.22 g 수준의 지진 하에서 응답변위법에 의한 상대변위는 지진응답 해석 결과보다 보수적이었으며, 실규모 구조실험에 의한 하중-변위 곡선 및 응답수정계수 산정 결과를 통해 전력구의 내진 안전성을 확인할 수 있었다.

하나로 2차 냉각탑의 냉각능력 평가 (Evaluation for the Cooling Capability of Secondary Cooling Tower in HANARO)

  • The heat produced by the fission in the fuel of HANARO, 30 MW research reactor, is transferred from the primary cooling water to the secondary cooling water through heat exchangers, and the heat absorbed by the secondary cooling water is released into the atmosphere by the 33 MW cooling tower which is a mechanical induced draft and counter flow type. If the outlet temperature of cooling tower exceeds 33 of due to the loss of the cooling tower performance under reactor operation above $50\%$ of the full power, the reactor power should be reduced to half of the full power for safe operation. Therefore, the cooling capability of cooling tower should be maintained for the reactor to be normally operated. To predict the capability of cooling tower for full power reactor operation of 30 MW, the performance test of cooling tower was done at the reactor present power of 24 MW and the capability was respectively evaluated by characteristics and performance curves methods in accordance with the Code of Cooling Tower Institute of U.S.A. to confirm the reliability of evaluation. As a result, it was confirmed, through the results of each evaluation, that the cooling capability of cooling tower meets the design required heat load. Also, the equations of the performance and the characteristics curves of the cooling tower, based on the collected data during this performance test, was obtained for developing the calculation program to predict the cooling capability during reactor operation.

메카넘휠 기반의 전방향 이동로봇 주행성능 평가 (Mobile Performance Evaluation of Mecanum Wheeled Omni-directional Mobile Robot)

  • Mobile robots with omni-directional wheels can generate instant omni-directional motion without requiring extra space to change the direction of the body. Therefore, they are capable of moving in an arbitrary direction under any orientation even in narrow aisles or tight areas. In this research, an omni-directional mobile robot based on Mecanum wheels was developed to achieve omni-directionality. A CompactRIO embedded real-time controller and C series motion and I/O modules were employed in the control system design. Ultrasonic sensors installed on the front and lateral sides were utilized to measure the distance between the mobile robot and the side wall of a workspace. Through intensive experiments, a performance evaluation of the mobile robot was conducted to confirm its feasibility for industrial purposes. Mobility, omni-directionality, climbing capacity, and tracking performance of a squared trajectory were selected as performance indices to assess the omni-directional mobile robot.

에너지 저감을 위한 사용자 및 위치인식 기술 적용 디밍 조명제어 시스템 연구 (A Study on the User and Location Awareness Technology Applied Dimming Lighting Control System to Save Energy)

  • Although research and technology developments have recently increased to save lighting energy within buildings, such research and technology development are judged to be unsuitable for energy savings since they are limited in the sense that the application of the technology is fragmented. This study proposes a user and location awareness technology applied to dimming lighting control system and verified the effectiveness of energy savings by building a test bed. The results were as follows : 1) This study suggested a user and location awareness technology applied to dimming lighting control system. 2) The system shows 96.6% and 82.8% energy saving rates, respectively, on the basis of one user, compared to an on/off lighting control and the user and location awareness technology applied to on/off lighting control system. 3) The energy consumption of the user and location awareness technology applied to on/off lighting control system and the user and location awareness technology applied to dimming lighting control system increased to 96.6%, 88.3%, and 59.6% and 82.8%, 85.0%, 51.5%, respectively, on the basis of one, two, and three users, compared to the on/off lighting control system. This study confirmed the energy saving performance of the user and location awareness technology applied to the dimming lighting control system through performance evaluation. In this regard, further study needs to be undertaken to evaluate the performance at night time.

  • Generally speaking, the uniqueness of Korea for the high-speed railway rolling-stock is mainly perceived through the travel over the high-speed electric railway by passengers, which consists of the organization of space in the coach and its interior design. For such purpose, it is necessary to build a series of independent cultures with high-speed railway i.e. to have the development of design technologies oriented to harmonizing human beings, their society and culture with the systematic integration of production technologies to support the culture and its substructure foundation which constitute the frame of superstructure in the society, by defining the relationships with travelers on the high-speed railway as well as enhancing the comfort and convenience of high-speed railway through drawing up the development of links with the systematic integration among lines of technologies on the basis of 'User Train Interface. This thesis aims at introducing the study carried out to build the evaluation standards of performance outputs for 'HEMU-400X rolling-stock Design' derived from the performance for the first year in the research 'Development of Technologies for the Next-Generation High-Speed Railway' as part of "Development Project for the Future Railway Technologies" from 2007.
