An investigation of a void and a loose layer of the ground is essential in order to prevent the losses of life and properties caused by subsidence and sinkage of the ground. Recently, studies on the ground penetrating radar survey have been actively conducted in order to estimate the void and the loose layer of the ground. However, an error can be committed by contrarily predicting a dense ground and a loose layer because the ground penetrating radar estimates an interface depth between geo-materials that have different electrical impedances. In this study, a loose ground depth is estimated using the characteristics of the reflected electromagnetic wave obtained from the ground penetrating radar survey. To gather the signals according to the loose ground depths, the ground penetrating radar survey is conducted on a field which underwent a huge ground settlement. In addition, the dynamic cone penetration test is performed to verify the result of the loose ground depth estimation from the ground penetrating radar survey. From the analysis of the reflection characteristics of the electromagnetic wave, a phase of an electromagnetic wave reflected from a denser soil layer is found to be identical with that of the first measured signal. On the other hand, a phase of an electromagnetic wave reflected from the loose soil layer is found to be opposed to that of the first detected signal. The comparison between the dynamic cone penetration index and electromagnetic signals by the ground penetrating radar shows that the estimated depth of the loose or dense layer is perfectly matched with a high reliability. The ground penetrating radar survey and the signal analysis performed in this study can be used not only for the survey of interface depth between the discontinuity layers but also for the estimation of the loose layer.

In this study, the effect of ground boundary conditions on the evaluation of blast resistance performance of precast arch structures was evaluated by a numerical analysis method. Two types of boundary conditions, namely, fixed boundary conditions and a perfectly matched layer (PML) were applied to numerical models. Blast loads that were much higher than the design load of the target structure were applied to compare the effects of the boundary conditions. The distribution and path of the ground explosion pressure, structural displacement, fracture of concrete, stress of concrete, and reinforcing bars were compared according to the ground boundary condition settings. As a result, the reflecting pressure shock wave at the ground boundaries could be effectively eliminated using PML elements; furthermore, the displacement of the foundation was reduced. However, no distinct difference could be observed in the overall structural behavior including the fracture and stress of the concrete and rebar. Therefore, when blast simulations are performed in the design of protective structures, it is rational to apply the fixed boundary condition on the ground boundaries as conservative design results can be achieved with relatively short computation times.

Analysis of an indoor propagation channel has conventionally used the ray-tracing method. But, in this paper, we had modelling the channel for three dimensional indoor structure by the finite difference time domain method for three dimensional full wave analysis. An excitation signal of the FDTD method used plane wave. The plane wave was excited using the total field/scattered field method. And absorbing boundary condition used the perfectly matched layer method with 7 layers. An living room for the simulation of indoor channel modeling is surrounded the wall that be composed of the wood, the conductor, the glass and concrete. When there are furniture in the living room or not, it were simulated, respectively. As simulation results, we could identify the fading effect of multipath at indoor propagation environment, calculated mean excess delay and rms delay spread for the receiver design.

In railway tunnel environment, the reliability of a high-data-rate and real-time train-to-wayside communication should be maintained especially when high-speed train moves along the track. In China and Europe, the communication frequency around 900 MHz is widely used for railway applications. At this carrier frequency band, both of the solutions based on continuously laid leaky coaxial cable (LCX) and discretely installed base-station antennas (BSAs), are applied in tunnel radio coverage. Many available works have concentrated on the radio-wave propagation in tunnels by different kinds of prediction models. Most of them solve this problem as natural propagation in a relatively large hollow waveguide, by neglecting the transmitting/receiving (Tx/Rx) components. However, within such confined areas like railway tunnels especially loaded with train, the complex communication environment becomes an important factor that would affect the quality of the signal transmission. This paper will apply a full-wave numerical method to this case, for considering the BSA or LCX, train antennas and their interacted environments, such as the locomotive body, overhead line for power supply, locomotive pantograph, steel rails, ballastless track, tunnel walls, etc.. Involving finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method and uni-axial anisotropic perfectly matched layer (UPML) technique, the entire wireless RF downlinks of BSA and LCX to tunnel space to train antenna are precisely modeled (so-called integrative modeling technique, IMT). When exciting the BSA and LCX separately, the field distributions of some cross-sections in a rectangular tunnel are presented. It can be found that the influence of the locomotive body and other tunnel environments is very significant. The field coverage on the locomotive roof plane where the train antennas mounted, seems more homogenous when the side-laying position of the BSA or LCX is much higher. Also, much smoother field coverage solution is achieved by choosing LCX for its characteristic of more homogenous electromagnetic wave radiation.

In this paper, the impedance-tuned monopole microstrip antenna designed for PCS is analyzed using finite difference time domain(FDTD) method. The perfectly matched layer(PML) absorbing material condition proposed by Berenger is used for the truncation of finite difference time domain lattice. A Gaussian pulse is selected as an excitation signal and a resistive voltage source model is used to reduce the error caused by the reflection waves. The FDTD method is inherently a near field technique. Therefore, the near field to far field transformation is need to compute far field antenna parameters such as radiation patterns and gain. The near field to far field transformation can be done both in the time domain and the frequency domain. We use the frequency domain transformation to compute the far field radiation patterns at single frequency. All the numerical results obtained by the FDTD method are compared with simulation results using the HFSS software. Good agreements are obtained in all cases.

When continuous and discontinuous microstrip is analyzed with FDTD(Finite Difference Time Domain) method, we used Berenger's 3D-PML as absorbing boundary condition, and IST(Inner Source Technique) was used for source excitation instead of front excitation that is existing method. In the case using IST, we have observed that analyzed characteristic is not affected by the reduced computational domain of the side and top face in which evanescent field and radiation field is exist. Also, if we control the position of the inner source, we could effectively reject the influence of the reflective wave by mean of imperfective boundary condition. In this paper, by using IST, we have calculated dispersive characteristic and characteristic impedance of the microstrip. And we have calculated magnitude and phase of the scattering coefficient, and obtained equivalent circuit of the open microstrip end.
We suggest new 2D two-way Parabolic equation algorithm for multiple scattering. Our method is based on the successive performance of the single scattering approach. First. as the single scattering algorithm, the reflected and transmitted fields are calculated at the vertical interface of a range independent sector. Then. the reflected field is saved and the transmitted field Propagated to the next vertical interface with the split-step Pade method. After one step ends, the same Process is repeatedly performed with the change of the Propagation direction until the reflected field at the vertical interface is close to zero. Final incoming and outgoing fields are obtained as the sum of the wave fields obtained for each step. Our algorithm is relatively simple for the numerical implementation and requires less computational resources than the existing algorithm for multiple scattering

The SAR patterns of biological objects contacted with coaxial waveguide antennal has been investigated, in which the biological object was modeled by a homogeneous and four-layered lossy human body. We derived the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) algorithm and equation of MUR and generalized perfectly matched layer(GPML) ABCs in cylindrical coordination. The coupling between coaxial waveguide antenna and a biological object was analyzed by use of MUR and GPML ABCs in the FDTD method to obtain the absorbed power patterns in the media. The specific absorption rates (SAR) distribution which was corresponding to the temperature distribution was calculated in each region by use of the steady-state response in the FDTD method. The SAR patterns of the FDTD method using MUR absorbing boundary conditions(ABCs) was compared with those of the FDTD method using GPML ABCs. The comparison exhibits that the penetration depth of the SAR patterns using MUR ABCs is deeper than that of the SAR patterns using GPML ABCs because of loss in free space. However, the spread in the lateral directions of the SAR patterns using GPML ABCs is smaller than of the SAR patterns using MUR ABCs.

Considering the non-linear behavior of structure and soil when evaluating a nuclear power plant's seismic safety under a beyond-design basis earthquake is essential. In order to obtain the nonlinear response of a nuclear power plant structure, a time-domain SSI analysis method that considers the nonlinearity of soil and structure and the nonlinear Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) effect is necessary. The Boundary Reaction Method (BRM) is a time-domain SSI analysis method. The BRM can be applied effectively with a Perfectly Matched Layer (PML), which is an effective energy absorbing boundary condition. The BRM has a characteristic that the magnitude of the response in far-field soil increases as the boundary interface of the effective seismic load moves outward. In addition, the PML has poor absorption performance of low-frequency waves. For this reason, the accuracy of the low-frequency response may be degraded when analyzing the combination of the BRM and the PML. In this study, the accuracy of the analysis response was improved by adjusting the PML input parameters to improve this problem. The accuracy of the response was evaluated by using the analysis response using KIESSI-3D, a frequency domain SSI analysis program, as a reference solution. As a result of the analysis applying the optimal PML parameter, the average error rate of the acceleration response spectrum for 9 degrees of freedom of the structure was 3.40%, which was highly similar to the reference result. In addition, time-domain nonlinear SSI analysis was performed with the soil's nonlinearity to show this study's applicability. As a result of nonlinear SSI analysis, plastic deformation was concentrated in the soil around the foundation. The analysis results found that the analysis method combining BRM and PML can be effectively applied to the seismic response analysis of nuclear power plant structures.
