  • The hazards to man of nuclear fallout produced by the nuclear tests in the atmosphere were briefly discussed. Seriousness of hazards due to Sr-90 existing not only in the nuclear fallout but also in the spent nuclear fuel and nuclear waste was pointed out. The uncertainty in health hazards to Koreans coming from the relatively low fraction of Ca intake from dairy products was stressed. In order to minimize the possible additional damage due to the particular Korean meal pattern, the investigation of ways to reduce the Sr-90 intake from Korean foods was proposed.

  • Air interlacing serves to protect the yarn against damage, strengthens inter-filament compactness or cohesion, and ensures fabric consistency. The air interlacing nozzle is used to introduce intermittent nips to a filament yarn so as to improve its performance in textile processing. This study investigates the effect of interlacing nozzle geometry on the interlacing process. The geometries of interlacing nozzles with multiple air inlets located across the width of a yarn channels are investigated. The basic interlacing nozzle is the yarn channel, with a perpendicular single air inlet in the middle. The yarn channel shapes are cross sections with semicircular or rectangular shapes. This paper presents three doubled sub air inlets with main air inlet and one of them is slightly inclined doubled sub air inlets with main air inlet. The compressed air coming out from the inlet hits the opposing wall of the yarn channel, divides into two branches, flows trough the top side of yarn channel, joins with the compressed air coming out from the sub air inlet and then creates two free jets at both ends of the yarn channel. The compressed air moves in the shape of two opposing directional vortices. The CFD-FASTRAN was used to perform steady simulations of impinging jet flow inside of the interlace nozzles. The vortical structure and the flow pattern such as pressure contour, particle traces, velocity vector plots inside of interlace nozzle geometry are discussed in this paper.

  • The responses of reinforced concrete slabs subject to an impact loading near the ultimate load range are explored. The analysis is carried out on a simply supported rectangular reinforced concrete slab using a nonlinear explicit dynamic procedure and considering three material models: Drucker-Prager, modified Drucker-Prager, and concrete damaged plasticity, available in the commercial finite element software, ABAQUS/Explicit. For comparison purposes, the impact force-time response, steel reinforcement failure, and concrete perforation pattern are verified against the existing experimental results. Also, the effectiveness of mesh density and damage wave propagation are studied independently. It is shown that the presently adopted finite element procedure is able to simulate and predict fairly accurate the behavior of reinforced concrete slab under impact load. More detailed investigations are however demanded for the justification of effects coming from an imperfect projectile orientation as well as the load and structural surface conditions, including the impulsive contacted state, which are inevitable in an actual impact environment.

  • The Information of classification and estimate about KOSPI200 index`s up and down in the stock market becomes an important standard of decision-making in designing portofolio in futures and option market. Because the coming trend of time series patterns, an economic indicator, is very subordinate to the most recent economic pattern, it is necessary to study the recent patterns most preferentially. This paper compares classification and estimated performance of SVM(Support Vector Machine) and Fuzzy SVM model that are getting into the spotlight in time series analyses, neural net models and various fields. Specially, it proves that Fuzzy SVM is superior by presenting the most suitable dimension to fuzzy membership function that has time series attribute in accordance with learning Data Base.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to set up an anomaly detection criteria for sensor data coming from a motorcycle. Methods: Five sensor values for accelerator pedal, engine rpm, transmission rpm, gear and speed are obtained every 0.02 second from a motorcycle. Exploratory data analysis is used to find any pattern in the data. Traditional process control methods such as X control chart and time series models are fitted to find any anomaly behavior in the data. Finally unsupervised learning algorithm such as k-means clustering is used to find any anomaly spot in the sensor data. Results: According to exploratory data analysis, the distribution of accelerator pedal sensor values is very much skewed to the left. The motorcycle seemed to have been driven in a city at speed less than 45 kilometers per hour. Traditional process control charts such as X control chart fail due to severe autocorrelation in each sensor data. However, ARIMA model found three abnormal points where they are beyond 2 sigma limits in the control chart. We applied a copula based Markov chain to perform statistical process control for correlated observations. Copula based Markov model found anomaly behavior in the similar places as ARIMA model. In an unsupervised learning algorithm, large sensor values get subdivided into two, three, and four disjoint regions. So extreme sensor values are the ones that need to be tracked down for any sign of anomaly behavior in the sensor values. Conclusion: Exploratory data analysis is useful to find any pattern in the sensor data. Process control chart using ARIMA and Joe's copula based Markov model also give warnings near similar places in the data. Unsupervised learning algorithm shows us that the extreme sensor values are the ones that need to be tracked down for any sign of anomaly behavior.

  • The structural change of occupational composition with the coming of post-industrial society is most evidently observed in the developed country. Specially representative of social changes is the emergence of new occupational sectors, such as the so-called quaternary and quinary sectors, which are based on the use of information technology and managerial skills. The paper raises the question of how and in what this chage of occupational components in a mtro area affects the existing residential structure over the period. In order to extend the discussion of the question, the related hypothetical statements on urban spatial impact due to transformation of the society have xtnsively considered and identified a possible multicenter structure concentration and deconcentration of new jobs and population over the metro area. For further examination, the renowned high tech city of Minneaplis -St. Paul has been selected and the occupational labour forces data for 1960 and 1980 analyzed. As a whole, this area has experienced a dispersal and reconcentration of population in new patterns which have resulted from changes in the occupational structure. In particular, the residential area of white-coller workers(the quaternary / quinary or information workers) has expanded into the city from a suburban core area. In this process, a large proportion of the manual-worker's residential areas in the central city either disappeared or diminished. Consequently, other isolated centers created by the manualworker residents are emerging in both the central city and suburbs. Thus, the development of mulitple centers or cores based on the distribution of occupational characteristics can be considered as a typical ongoing pattern of metro areas in the Unite States.

  • Models for human cognition currently discussed in cognitive science cannot be appropriate ones. The symbolic model of the traditional artificial intelligence works for reasoning and problem-solving tasks, but doesn't fit for pattern recognition such as letter/sound cognition. Connectionism shows the contrary phenomena to those of the traditional artificial intelligence. Connectionist systems has been shown to be very strong in the tasks of pattern recognition but weak in most of logical tasks. Brooks' situated action theory denies the. notion of representation which is presupposed in both the traditional artificial intelligence and connectionism and suggests a subsumption model which is based on perceptions coming from real world. However, situated action theory hasn't also been well applied to human cognition so far. In emphasizing those characteristics of models I refer those models 'left-brain model', 'right-brain model', and 'robot model' respectively. After I examine those models in terms of substantial items of cognitions- mental state, mental procedure, basic element of cognition, rule of cognition, appropriate level of analysis, architecture of cognition, I draw three arguments of embodiment. I suggest a way of unifying those existing models by examining their theoretical compatability which is found in those arguments.
