  • The principle of an illumination system including fly-eyes lenses for a liquid crystal display (LCD) projector with 3-panels was presented and its optical system was designed by using the OSLO (premium edition 6.1) optical system design program. Two panels of the illumination system are well aligned for so that the illumination path length is the same, and the third panel has a longer pass length than the others. The two illumination types with the same or different illumination path lengths were derived by using the paraxial ray design method. Refraction powers and positions of each lens were analytically determined by the method, and the damped least square method was utilized to obtain the optimized uniform illumination system.

  • In IS-95 and IMT-2000 systems using variable code rates and constraint lengths, this paper limits code rate 1/2 and constraint length 3 and states the effective reduction of PM(Path Metric) and BM(Branch Metric) memories and arithmetic comparative calculations with appling PVSL(Prototype Vector Selecting Logic) and LVQ(Learning Vector Quantization) in neural network to simplify systems and to decode forwardly. Regardless of extension of constraint length, this paper presents the new Vierbi decoder and the appied algorithm because new structure and algorithm can apply to the existing Viterbi decoder using only uncomplicated application and verifies the rationality of the proposed Viterbi decoder through VHDL simulation and compares the performance between the proposed Viterbi decoder and the existing.

  • Purpose: The application of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is beneficial for joint movements, inhibition of spasticity, and the improvement of walking ability in patients with chronic hemiplegia. This study aimed to identify the effect of the application of TENS to the knee extensor on the affected side with respect to postural-sway distance and velocity during the sit-to stand movement. Methods: We included 19 patients with post-stroke hemiplegia in this study. They underwent measurements during the sit-to stand movement on a force plate with 5 different stimulation dosages applied over 7 s:No TENS, high-frequency and high intensity TENS, high-frequency and low intensity TENS, low-frequency and high intensity TENS, and low-frequency and low intensity TENS The 5 different condition were administered in random order. Results: The group that received TENS application exhibited a significant decrease in path length and average velocity of center of pressure (COP) displacement compared with the group that did not receive TENS application. TENS dosage at low frequency (3Hz) and high intensity yielded a significant decrease in path length, average velocity, mediolateral distance and anteroposterior distance of COP displacement (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our results demonstrated the effectiveness of the application of low-frequency TENS on STS performance. These findings provide useful information on the application of TENS for the reduction of postural sway during the sit-to-stand movement after stroke.

  • The primary objective of this paper is to grasp many characteristics of buckling behavior of latticed spherical domes under various conditions. The Arc-Length Method proposed by E.Riks is used for the computation and evaluation of geometrically nonlinear fundamental equilibrium paths and bifurcation points. And the direction of the path after the bifurcation point is decided by means of Hosono's concept. Three different nonlinear stiffness matrices of the Slope-Deflection Method are derived for the system with rigid nodes and results of the numerical analysis are examined in regard to geometrical parameters such as slenderness ratio, half-open angle, boundary conditions, and various loading types. But in case of analytical model 2 (rigid node), the post-buckling path could not be surveyed because of Newton-Raphson iteration process being diversed on the critical point since many eigenvalues become zero simultaneously.

  • The effects of $CO_2$ ppm in atmosphere on the values of the total emissivity are studied. The predictions by several methods are compared. The predicted value differences between modified Kondratyev model and Hottel model are the smallest with in the range of values tested. The $CO_2$ ppm is varied from 300 ppm to 600 ppm. By Wide Band model, the total emissivity increases with increasing density-path length product rather linearly up to 0.1 g/$cm^2$. For given $CO_2$ ppm, the total emissivity increases as the air thickness increases. The same is true for both temperature and pressure increase. The temperature range tested is 220 to 300 K. Around 260K, the total emissivity is less sensitive with increasing temperature than with decreasing temperature. The pressure is varied from 0.94 to 1.06 atm. The percentage change of total emissivity with pressure change from 1atm is at most the percentage change of the pressure.

  • Wii® balance board (WBB, Nintendo, Japan) is a device that can measure and record the center of pressure path length (CPPL) and 95% confidence ellipse area (Area 95) in relation to body sway. For evaluating measure of improvement after reconstruction of medial patellar luxation (MPL) in small sized dogs, A total of 6 dogs with limping and lameness gait attributed to Grade II, III or IV MPL were evaluated. Dogs were measured for difference of extension and flexion range of motion in the stifle (dROM), muscle mass, lameness, willingness to bear weight on the affected limb while standing, and willingness to lift the contralateral limb scores, CPPL and Area 95 of WBB on pre-surgery, post-surgery 4, 8 weeks. CPPL was significantly different on pre-surgery compared with post-surgery 8 weeks (p < 0.05). Except for CPPL, measured variables were significantly different on pre-surgery compared with post-surgery 4 and post-surgery 8 weeks (p < 0.01).

  • In order to reveal the geographical landscape's features of the East Sea-gateway(東海口), which has existed only in the era of Shilla as unique east path, we have carried out analysis of the old maps(邑誌圖) and satellite imagery, and geographical features analysis in the application of digital maps, and the result is as follows. 1. Analysis of materials from the Chosun dynasty describes landscapes called sea gates(海口) (note that this should not be capitalized); a place where the river meets the sea and the sea comes far into the land. Sea gate landscapes may have an island, but this is not a prerequisite. 2. According to the satellite imagery, the capital city of Shilla Dynasty had five passages. four or them are broad corridors, but one of them is narrow. The east side of the capital city is blocked by mountains and there was an important path which leads into the East Sea. 3. According to the cross section of the mountains, there is the only rule East-path. There was no alternative way. There was only one way-out to the east side from the capital city. This is the unique path which reaches a length of 28km. Judging from this, it seems that this path was called the East Sea-gateway. 4. The landscape of the East Sea-gateway was shaped like the letter 'V' and reached to the landscape of the sea gate. However, the route was blocked - part by the mountains, and also the part in the crisis of loss of path-landscape which has lost its own character of closure as several valleys are merged together.

  • The shortest path between two points inside a simple polygon P is a minimum-length path among all paths connecting them which don't pass by the exterior of P. A linear time algorithm for computing the shortest path in a general simple polygon requires triangulating a polygon as preprocessing. The linear time triangulating is known to very complex to understand and implement it. It is also inefficient in case that the input without very large size is given because its time complexity has a big constant factor. In this paper, we present the customized shortest path algorithm for a segment-visible polygon which is a simple polygon weakly visible from an internal line segment. Our algorithm doesn't require triangulating as preprocessing and consists of simple procedures such as construction of convex hulls, so it is easy to implement and runs very fast in linear time.

  • In this paper, we consider the shortest path problems in a simple polygon. The shortest path between two points inside a polygon P is a minimum-length path among all paths connecting them which don't pass by the exterior of P. A linear time algorithm for computing the shortest path in a general simple polygon requires triangulating a polygon as preprocessing. The linear time triangulating is known to very complex to understand and implement it. It is also inefficient in cases without very large input size. In this paper, we present the customized shortest path algorithms for specific polygon classes such as star-shaped polygons, edge-visible polygons, and monotone polygons. These algorithms need not triangulating as preprocessing, so they are simple and run very fast in linear time.

  • Background: Fatigue has a strong impact on workers' performance and safety, but expedient methods for assessing fatigue on the job are not yet available. Studies discuss posturography as an indicator of fatigue, but further evidence for its use in the workplace is needed. The purpose of the study is to examine whether posturography is a suitable indicator of fatigue in clerical workers. Methods: Thirty-six employees (${\emptyset}$ 34.8 years, standard deviation = 12.5) participated in postural tasks (eyes open, eyes closed, arm swinging, and dual task) in the morning and afternoon. Position of their center of pressure (COP) was registered using a Nintendo Wii Balance Board and commercial software. From registered COP time series, we calculated the following parameters: path length (mm), velocity (mm/s), anterior-posterior variance (mm), mediolateral variance (mm), and confidence area ($mm^2$). These parameters were reduced to two orthogonal factors in a factor analysis with varimax rotation. Results: Statistical analysis of the first factor (path length and velocity) showed a significant effect of time of day: COP moved along a shorter path at a lower velocity in the afternoon compared with that in the morning. There also was a significant effect of task, but no significant interaction. Conclusion: Data suggest that postural stability of clerical workers was comparable in the morning and afternoon, but COP movement was greater in the morning. Within the framework of dynamic systems theory, this could indicate that the postural system explored the state space in more detail, and thus was more ready to respond to unexpected perturbations in the morning.
