  • The purpose of this study was to examine the phenomenon of social participation among female baby boomers. The key research questions were asked in what kind of activities do female baby boomers engage as social participation? The in-depth interview was used with 11 female baby boomers who were born between 1955 to 1963. The interview text were analyzed by the qualitative study method. The findings are as follows. First, the most common type of social participation was having hobbies and leisure activities, and the other were participating in religious activities, learning activities, volunteer activities and on-line club activities. Second, social participation gave them meanings such as joy, satisfaction, and experiences of seeing the new world as well as opportunities to make up low sense of self-esteem formed in their young age. Third, they were considering it was time to change their social participation. The cases who were actively engaging in social participation considered old age as 'the process of reducing social participation'. Some other cases considered to 'share hobbies with spouse', and to 'achieve new goals and dreams'. The results showed that female baby boomers started their social participation in their middle ages when they became free from their children's education. The level of the involvement in social participation was reduced in their old age. Surprisingly, some interviewees planned to accomplish their dreams and goals that they haven't achieved yet. These differences among the cases could be attributed to the individual characteristics such as personality, birth order, economic and educational background, and to the social relationship.

  • Context: Genuine community participation does not denote taking part in an action planned by health care professionals in a medical or top-down approach. Further, community participation and health education on breast cancer prevention are not similar to other activities incorporated in primary health care services in Iran. Objective: To propose a model that provides a methodological tool to increase women's participation in the decision making process towards breast cancer prevention. To address this, an evaluation framework was developed that includes a typology of community participation approaches (models) in health, as well as five levels of participation in health programs proposed by Rifkin (1985&1991). Method: This model explains the community participation approaches in breast cancer prevention in Iran. In a 'medical approach', participation occurs in the form of women's adherence to mammography recommendations. As a 'health services approach', women get the benefits of a health project or participate in the available program activities related to breast cancer prevention. The model provides the five levels of participation in health programs along with the 'health services approach' and explains how to implement those levels for women's participation in available breast cancer prevention programs at the local level. Conclusion: It is hoped that a focus on the 'medical approach' (top-down) and the 'health services approach' (top-down) will bring sustainable changes in breast cancer prevention and will consequently produce the 'community development approach' (bottom-up). This could be achieved using a comprehensive approach to breast cancer prevention by combining the individual and community strategies in designing an intervention program for breast cancer prevention.

  • This paper researched social, cultural background, psychological bases, design method and design types with regard to user's participation in space design. This issue of user's participation became one of major paradigms of 21st century not only for space design but also for every other cultural phenomenon. First chapter is an introduction. Second chapter tried to assert the fact that user's participation will be the important aspect for future space design by proving the correlation between user's participation in space design and the important social changes. It also tried to prove the psychological reasons why the users' participations affect the level of user satisfaction. It can be explained by Behaviorism which insisted that our outer behaviors affect our inner attitudes and preferences. Third chapter explained the affordances in design which works as a means of inducing user's participatory behaviors. Fourth chapter proposed the types of participatory space designs classified by the users' behavioral features and their characteristics, intending that they will verify the realization of the theories which we discussed in the former chapters regarding the users' participation in space design. The fifth chapter is a conclusion which says that outwardly, those participations are simply making external changes in design. but actually, they are reflecting more profound social changes and making important psychological effects on users.

  • Purpose: Dairy marketing cooperatives operate in the agricultural sector of the Ethiopian economy and are supposed to increase the efficiency of the marketing system. This paper aims to study factors affecting the participation of farm households' in dairy marketing cooperatives. Research design, data, and methodology: The research has focused on one primary question. What are the possible factors that affect farm households' participation in dairy marketing cooperatives? The survey questionnaire was developed and an interview was made using enumerators. A total of 1500 sample households were selected randomly using the method of sampling with probability proportionate to size. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis (binary logit model) was used for analysis. Results: The study result revealed that among thirteen explanatory variables hypothesized to affect dairy producer farmers' participation in dairy marketing cooperatives; eleven were found to be statistically significant. From these findings, it is observed that members of the dairy cooperatives have significant advantage over nonmembers. Conclusions: Both internal and external intervention measures are suggested. Internally, the cooperatives' board of directors should design appropriate strategies to attract nonmembers to improve future participation, and, externally, government, NGOs, and other stakeholders need to emphasize methods that increase nonmembers' participation in dairy marketing cooperatives.

  • This study analyzes the effects of participation in the global production network on the income inequality using panel data from 2005 to 2016 for 63 countries. In this study were used fixed effects model with autocorrelation, random effect model with autocorrelation and the GLS method. Results are as follows: First, the economic development level supports the Kuznets hypothesis. And then, the forward participation in global value chains increased income inequality, and the backward participation decreased income inequality. In order to derive more detailed estimation results, we analyzed OECD countries and non-OECD countries. First, OECD countries featured decreased, but increased beyond a certain level as a U-shaped curve, that did not support the Kuznets hypothesis. In contrast, non-OECD countries followed the Kuznets U-curve. Second, participation in the global production network showed that both OECD and non-OECD countries featured increased income inequality. In contrast, backward participation appears to mitigate income inequality both in OECD and non-OECD countries. Finally, the ratio of labor and capital is significant in mitigating income inequality in non-OECD countries in which they feature backward participation in production networks. This can be interpreted as developing economies participate in the global production network due to increased capital accumulation and increased the labor productivity.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of residents' perceptions of tourism impact and conflicts on residents' participation in rural tourism village. Method of analysis involves factor analysis and regression analysis in this study. In order to measure the level of perception, three factors(economic benefits, social benefits, social and environmental cost) are derived from the factor analysis. And also in order to measure the level of conflict, two factor(openness of information, leading of operation) are derive from the factor analysis.
