  • We explore the structure and usefulness of three dimensional CERES plot as a basic tool for dealing with curvature as a function of the new predictors in generalized linear models. If predictors have nonlinear effects and there are nonlinear relationships among the predictors, the partial residual plot is not able to display the correct functional form of the predictors. Unlike this plots, the CERES plot can show the correct form. This is illustrated by simulated data.

  • Partial edentulism has multiple implications in relation to function, esthetics and future rehabilitative treatment. This case report illustrates the management of a patient with extreme consequences of partial edentulism. The main clinical findings were unopposed remaining teeth, overeruption of the remaining teeth, loss of vertical dimension of occlusion, and significant disfigurement of the occlusal plane. Following the diagnostic procedure, a well-coordinated prosthodontic treatment involving liaison with other dental disciplines was indicated. The management involved an innovative combination of fixed and removable prostheses in conjunction with crown lengthening surgery and strategic implant placement. Series of provisional prostheses were applied to facilitate the transition to the final treatment.

  • The electromagnetic levitation(EMS) system is one of the well-known nonlinear system because of its nonlinearity and several control techniques have been proposed. We propose an ${\epsilon}$-scaling partial feedback controller for the ball position control of the EMS system. The key feature of our proposed controller is the use of the scaling factor ${\epsilon}$ which provides a function of controller gain tuning along with robustness. In this paper, we show the stability analysis of our proposed controller and the convergence analysis of the state observer in terms of ${\epsilon}$-scaling factor. In addition, the experimental results show the validity of the proposed controller and improved control performance over the conventional PID controller.

  • ThE Gibbs' phenomenon in the classical Fourier series is well-known. It is closely related with the kernel of the partial sum of the series. In fact, the Dirichlet kernel of the courier series is not positive. The poisson kernel of Cesaro summability is positive. As the consequence of the positiveness, the partial sum of Cesaro summability does not exhibit the Gibbs' phenomenon. Most kernels associated with wavelet expansions are not positive. So wavelet series is not free from the Gibbs' phenomenon. Because of the excessive oscillation of wavelets, we can not follow the techniques of the courier series to get rid of the unwanted quirk. Here we make a positive kernel For Meyer wavelets and as the result the associated summability method does not exhibit Gibbs' phenomenon for the corresponding series .

  • This paper presents a stochastic partial backorder inventory model for the situation in which demand follows normal distribution and back order ratio during that stockout period decreases exponentially according to the length of backorder period. In the paper, an objective function is formulated to minimize the average annual cost, which is the sum of the ordering, carrying, time-proportional backordering, and lost sales cost. And then sensitivity analysis for various exponential backorder ratios and standard deviations of leadtime demand are presented. The inventory model in the paper is reduced to a backorder model and lost sales model, when backorder ratio is 1 and 0, respectively.

  • A new method is proposed for the isolation of resonances from scattered waves for acoustic wave resonance scattering problems. The resonance scattering function consisting purely of resonance information is defined. Acoustic wave scattering from a variety of submerged bodies is numerically analyzed. The classical resonance scattering theory (RST) and the new method compute identical magnitude of the resonance from each scattered partial wave, however, the phases are significantly different. The exact .pi.-radians phase shifts through the resonance and anti-resonance show that the proposed method properly extracts the vibrational resonance information of the scatterer. Due to the difference in the phase of each, partial wave, the new method and RST generate different total resonance spectra.

  • This paper presents a stochastic partial inventory model for the situation in which demand is deterministic, lead time follows normal distribution and backorder ratio during the stockout period decreases exponentially according to the length of backorder period. In this situation, an objective function is formulated to minimize the average annual cost, which is the sum of the ordering, carrying time-proportional backordering, quantity-proportional backordering and lost sales costs. And then the procedure of iterative solution method for the model is developed to find optimal reorder point and order quantity and numerical example to illustrate the proposed method is presented.

  • Parts I-IV showed that the number of ways to place q nonattacking queens or similar chess pieces on an n × n chessboard is a quasipolynomial function of n whose coefficients are essentially polynomials in q. For partial queens, which have a subset of the queen's moves, we proved complete formulas for these counting quasipolynomials for small numbers of pieces and other formulas for high-order coefficients of the general counting quasipolynomials. We found some upper and lower bounds for the periods of those quasipolynomials by calculating explicit denominators of vertices of the inside-out polytope. Here we discover more about the counting quasipolynomials for partial queens, both familiar and strange, and the nightrider and its subpieces, and we compare our results to the empirical formulas found by Kotššovec. We prove some of Kotššovec's formulas and conjectures about the quasipolynomials and their high-order coefficients, and in some instances go beyond them.

  • Graphical methods for the specification of the curvature as a function of two predictors are animated to see the effect of an added variable to the model. Through a 3D animated plot it might be difficult to find a sequence of interpretable plots. But examples demonstrate that useful information can be obtained by using rotation technique in 3D plot. Besides 3D plots, an example of 2D animated plot applied to the case of high correlation between predictors and an added predictor is also given. It implies that speed of the convergence to a certain image in a dynamic plot may be understood as an influence of collinearity.

  • The biochemical changes of the hepatic tissues, induced by the carcinogen treatment such as diethylnitrosamine and acetamidofluorene in combination with the partial hepatectomy after Solt and Farber, were determined for the characterization of the induction of the proliferative capacity and the environmental adaptability of the carcinogenic tissues during the malignant transformation process. For the study of the proliferative capacity of the tissues, the activities of the enzymes, related with the nitrogen trapping mechanism, such as glutamine synthetase and gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase, were monitroed, while the cintents of cytochrome P450's and their isozymic patterns as well as the activities of the glutathione S-transferase were determined in the function of time after the hepatocarcinogenic stimuli.
