  • The registration is an important part of image processing and pattern recognition. In this paper, the integral projection method is proposed as the first stage of the two-stage template matching. The computation time of the proposed method is one-tenth of that of the two-stage template matching technique with a sub-template. This method is applied to a noisy (real)image with a different bias level and gives a correct template position, while the two-stage template matching technique with a sub-template cannot detect correctly.

  • In this paper, we proposed the color matching application based on smart phone which can help color blind people. For color blind people, the existing methods and applications supported color matching application which based on mobile. However, because the most research only showed the color value and color name through capture image of mobile camera, those cannot compare with capture image color of mobile camera and color of real object in real-time. To solve those problem, we proposed the color matching algorithm and developed the color matching application that can compare with color of mobile camera's capture image and color of real object in real-time, because the proposed application divides screen of smart phone into two parts and it show one part as capture image of smart phone camera and the other part as real-time camera image of smart phone. Color matching algorithm calculate cosine similarity using Red, Green, Blue, and Hue value of each image for real-time comparing and show matching result according to similarity value in real-time. To evaluate the performance of the proposed application, we tested a color matching experiment using the proposed application and the matching result was 98% success rate. Therefore, the proposed application will be a useful application which can help color blind people.

  • The objective of this research is to investigate the potential of relational matching in one of the fundamental photogrammetric processes, that is initial approximation problem. The automatic relative orientation procedures of aerial stereopairs have been investigated. The fact that the existing methods suffer from approximations, distortions (geometric and radiometric), occlusions, and breaklines is the motivation to investigate relational matching which appears to be a much more general solution. An elegant way of solving the initial approximation problem by using distinct(special) relationship from relational description is suggested and experimented. As for evaluation function, the cost function was implemented. The detection of erroneous matching is incorporated as a part of proposed relational matching scheme. Experiments with real urban area images where large numbers of repetitive patterns, breaklines, and occluded areas are present prove the feasibility of implementation of the proposed relational matching scheme. The investigation of relational matching in the domain of image matching problem provides advantages and disadvantages over the existing image matching methods and shows the future area of development and implementation of relational matching in the field of digital photogrammetry.

  • For music score recognition, several approaches have been proposed including shape matching, statistical methods, neural network based methods and structural methods. In this paper, we deal with recognition for low resolution images which are captured by the digital camera of a mobile phone. Considerable distortions are included in these low resolution images, so when existing technology is used, many problems appear. First, captured images are not stable in the sense that they contain lots of distortions or non-uniform illumination changes. Therefore, notes or symbols in the music score are damaged and recognition process gets difficult. This paper presents recognition technology to overcome these problems. First, musical note to head, stick, tail part are separated. Then template matching on head part of musical note, and remainder part is applied. Experimental results show nearly 100% recognition rate for music scores with single musical notes.

  • In this paper, we propose a multiresolution stereo matching method based on genetic algorithm using edge information. The proposed approach considers the matching environment as an optimization problem and finds the solution by using a genetic algorithm. A cost function composes of certain constraints which are commonly used in stereo matching. We defines the structure of chromosomes using edge pixel information of reference image of stereo pair. To increase the efficiency of process, we apply image pyramid method to stereo matching and calculate the initial disparity map at the coarsest resolution. Then initial disparity map is propagated to the next finer resolution, interpolated and performed disparity refinement. We valid our approach not only reduce the search time for correspondence but alse ensure the validity of matching.

  • In this paper, we propose a topic maps matching and merging approach based on the syntactic or semantic characteristics and constraints of the topic maps. Previous schema matching approaches have been developed to enhance effectiveness and generality of matching techniques. However they are inefficient because the approaches should transform input ontologies into graphs and take into account all the nodes and edges of the graphs, which ended up requiring a great amount of processing time. Now, standard languages for developing ontologies are RDF/OWL and Topic Maps. In this paper, we propose an enhanced version of matching and merging technique based on topic partitioning, several matching operations and merging conflict detection.

  • Stereo matching techniques are categorized in two major schemes, local and global matching techniques. In global matching schemes, several investigations are introduced, where cost accumulation is performed in multiple matching lines. In this paper, we introduce a new multi-line stereo matching techniques which expands a conventional single-line matching scheme to multiple one. Matching cost is based on simple normalized cross correlation. We expand the scan-line optimization technique to a multi-line scan-line optimization technique. The proposed technique first generates a reliability image, which is iteratively updated based on the previous reliability measure. After some number of iterations, the reliability image is completed by a hole-filling algorithm. The hole-filling algorithm introduces a disparity score table which records the disparity score of the current pixel. The disparity of an empty pixel is determined by comparing the scores of the neighboring pixels. The proposed technique is tested using the Middlebury and CMU stereo images. The error analysis shows that the proposed matching technique yields better performance than using conventional global matching algorithm.

  • Pattern matching is one of critical parts of Network Intrusion Prevention Systems (NIPS) and computationally intensive. To handle a large number of attack signature fattens increasing everyday, a network intrusion prevention system requires a multi pattern matching method that can meet the line speed of packet transfer. In this paper, we analyze Snort, a widely used open source network intrusion prevention/detection system, and its pattern matching characteristics. A multi pattern matching method for NIPS should efficiently handle a large number of patterns with a wide range of pattern lengths and case insensitive patterns matches. It should also be able to process multiple input characters in parallel. We propose a multi pattern matching hardware accelerator based on Shift-OR pattern matching algorithm. We evaluate the performance of the pattern matching accelerator under various assumptions. The performance evaluation shows that the pattern matching accelerator can be more than 80 times faster than the fastest software multi-pattern matching method used in Snort.

  • Automated visual grading system of lumber needs correct input image. In order to create a correct image of domestic red pine lumber 3.6 m long feeding on a conveyer, part images were captured using area sensor and template matching algorithm was applied to merge part images. Two kinds of template matching algorithms and six kinds of template sizes were adopted in this operation. Feature extracted method appeared to have more excellent image merging performance than fixed template method. Error length was attributed to a decline of similarity related by difference of partial brightness on a part image, specific pattern and template size. The mismatch part was repetitively generated at the long grain. The best size of template for image merging was $100{\times}100$ pixels. In a further study, assignment of exact template size, preprocessing of image merging for reduction of brightness difference will be needed to improve image merging.

  • This paper describes the measured results of sonobuoy transmitting antenna system for anti-submarine warfare (ASW). Since radiation pattern and power density depend on impedance matching between transmitting RF part and antenna with termination resistance, design of matching circuit is very important for sonobuoy system performance. Matching circuit is designed by Smith chart using control of L and C. In standing wave ratio(SWR) measurement using Network Analyzer, SWR of antenna with matching circuit observed 1.5 below at the assigned VHF band. It shows very excellent performance comparison with conversional product that is used for the same object. The measured vertical and horizontal radiation patterns are also shown the satisfaction of military specifications. A drop out of sonobuoy system on the sea is happened when angle of elevation direction is over 10 degrees, and it is conformed that it takes less than I second return to original signal level. The required electric power density is $83\;mW/m^2$ in the military specification, and measured electric power density is observed over average $110\;mW/m^2$ at all frequency bands.
