The purpose of this study was to improve the understanding of essential experiences of children of Alcoholism and explore their adjustment process from the children's perspectives. The specific research questions explored in this study were: 1. What was the central phenomenon that children of Alcoholism have experienced? 2. What was the adjustment process of the children of Alcoholism. The grounded theory was adopted in this study to address the research questions. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with eight young adult aged from 18-30 years olds who experienced their parent's Alcoholism. Grounded theory based data analyses resulted in 85 concepts, 30 sub-categories, and 16 categories. The 'causal conditions' influencing the central phenomenon was 'self denial' and 'being suppressed' is the central phenomenon for the children of Alcoholism. The core issue in the process of an adjustment of children from a Alcoholism family was 'accepting the parental Alcoholic problem and re-defining the self', The results of this study suggest that counseling interventions are suggested to improve children's well-being and facilitate their adjustment. Therefore this study has implication on building theory of intervention on the offsprings who have parents of Alcoholism.

This study is to verify relative influence of individual, parent, peer, teacher-related variables as protective factors and risk factors of academic hatred. Surveys were conducted with 1,015 (women, 57.3%) high school third grade students across eight schools where are located in Seoul, Incheon, and Geyonggi province. Correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were performed. The findings are summarized as follows. Teacher's academic pressure did not have significant correlation with student's basic psychological needs, teacher's autonomy support, teacher's support, and peer support whereas other variables showed significant correlation each others. The hierarchical multiple regression analysis indicated that student's individual competence and autonomy, parent's academic support, and teacher's emotional support work as protective factors and that parent's academic pressure functions as a risk factor. The effects of peer support disappeared when teacher-related factors were included. In addition, the effects of teacher's autonomy support disappeared, while the effects of teacher's support strengthened when learner's basic psychological needs were input. This study is meaningful in that it clarified academic hatred which had not been studied in other research and that it provided theoretical foundation for subsequent studies on academic hatred by examining relative influence of related variables. Lastly, it presented its limitation, implications on intervening strategies in school counseling, and suggestions for later studies.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of perceived relationships of the adolescents with their parents, peer and the teachers on their school adjustment. The data were collected from 385 male and female high school students in Seoul through the questionnaire method. The major result of the study were as follows: 1. About sixty percents of the respondents came from middle-class families who were being brought up by their parents. 2. Analysis of data revealed that degrees of relationship of the respondents with their parents and peer were higher than moderate, while the degrees of relationship with teacher was found to be moderate. 3. The adolescent' overall level of school adjustment was found to be at a moderate level. 4. The adolescents' levels of school adjustment were differed by birth order, father's occupations, family structures, economic status of the family, grade point average and religion. 5. The stepwise regression analyses yielded the results that relationship with the teacher, relationship with the peer, father's caring, birth order and economic status of family were significant factors in explaining the adolescents' school adjustment. On the base of the results of the study, the following suggestions were made in order to enhance adolescents' school adjustment: 1. Teacher education focused on guidance and counseling should be included in the teacher education and training program. 2. Parents education focused on fatherhood should be more emphasized.

The purposes of this study were to explore ecological variables that affect family functions and to analyze relative magnitudes of significant predictors. The study employed ecological model. Data were collected from 143 mothers of mildly handicapped children enrolled in integrated kindergartens in Seoul, Korea. The results of the study were as follows : 1. The level of family functions with mildly handicapped children were found to be moderate(M=3.21, SD=.49). 2. The hierarchical regression analysis yielded Model V as the most powerful model, explaining 79%$(Adjusted\;R^2=.787)$ of the variance. 3. The most powerful predictors throughout Model I to V were found to be maternal efficacy $({\beta}=.578,\;p<.001)$, maternal satisfaction with parent-education and counseling programs $({\beta}=.249,\;p<.001)$, husband's helps $({\beta}=.207,\;p<.01)$, and the availability of assistance other than family members $({\beta}=.232,\;p<.05)$ in the order.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop safety education program to prevent child accident and to improve the health of children by providing a safe environment. This program provide parents and children with information on how to prevent children from accident. During the 7th Annual Conference of Educational Courses in 1999, the Korean Educational Ministry examined the feasibility and compatibility of integrating the program into the current educational curriculum. Result: This program includes useful subjects such as safety education, preventive strategies, crisis management, guide for parent and teacher, resource persons, internet site and phone numbers of available hospital. Counseling is provided by researcher if needed. Conclusion: This program could be adequately utilized for prevention of child accident and creation of preventive strategies. It will also suggest an intervention strategy for injured children.

Objectives: Natural environment therapy is considered as an option for atopic dermatitis. This study was aimed to examine the beneficial effects of natural environment therapy among patients with atopic dermatitis who have moved in an atopy-free village. Methods: The questionnaire-based survey was conducted from parents of 20 children with atopic dermatitis (12 male and 8 female, median age 8 years, ranging from 6 to 13 years). The questionnaire consisted of 10 questions for the changes of two typical symptoms of pruritus and sleeping difficulty after moving into an atopy-free village. Results: 75.0% and 88.9% of patients have a family history (at least one parent and one of siblings respectively) of allergic disorders. The median staying period of patients was 27.6 months (ranging from 2 to 55 months). The score indicating pruritus was significantly improved from $6.2{\pm}2.8$ into $4.8{\pm}1.8$ (p<0.05), and sleeping difficulty was also improved from $5.7{\pm}2.9$ into $4.3{\pm}2.1$ (p<0.05) too. Conclusions: This study suggests that the natural environmental therapies could be a choice for patients with atopic dermatitis, which should be studied further for their scientific evidence and mechanisms.
