This study analyzed factors that influence the welfare awareness level of paramedics. Paramedics are professionals responsible for the health and safety of the public, and their welfare is a factor that enables them to carry out their duties smoothly. The study results showed that the overall level of welfare awareness was analyzed to be very low at 2.80 points. We also found that there were gender and class differences in some areas. One notable point is the item 'In the event of a lawsuit or other complaint or accident during a call, the fire department responds adequately for me.' which received the lowest score of 2.22 point. I hope that in the future, fire departments will implement policy measures to protect emergency personnel from complaints and reduce the stress they experience when dispatched to disaster areas. Based on the results of this study, I hope that follow-up researchers will conduct a comparative analysis of the level of welfare awareness among various factors.
Purpose: This study aims to examine the relationships among experiences of traumatic events, post-traumatic stress (PTS), and the needs for health promotion programs of 119 paramedics. Methods: Experiences of traumatic events, PTS, and needs for health promotion programs were measured using a structured questionnaire. The subjects were 193 paramedics in Jeju Island. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test and $x^2$ test. Results: The most experienced event out of the 16 different traumatic events was 'retrieve a suicide's body.' A high-risk classification of PTS was observed in 36.2% of the subjects. The rates of experiences were higher than those of the actual needs for all 26 health promotion programs. The programs reported as highly needed by respondents were stress management (75.5%) followed by exercise (74.6%) and PTS management (72.5%). Subjects with longer career periods, a fire sergeant, perceived obesity, numerous experiences of traumatic events, and in the PTS risk group had a higher need for a stress management program. Conclusion: These findings indicate that a significant number of 119 paramedics experienced PTS. They also show that onsite strategic management is strongly required. In addition, implementation of health promotion programs based on the needs of 119 paramedics is highly needed.
Purpose: This research project addressed the need to designing more safe and efficient interior of the future ambulance in Korea. Methods: The study sample contained 760 paramedics in 4 districts. Data was collected by using a revised and complemented questionnaire based on literature review. Results: In relation to the efficacy and safety of work, answers related to storage closet showed to be the highest, and the most difficult part of paramedic work in an ambulance was lurching. CPR is the most frequently used emergency care inside an ambulance, but 66% of the paramedics responded that accurate CPR is not possible during vehicle transfer. Safety belts are not worn for 82.8% of the time, because of discomfort (51.3%). 13.8% of the paramedics responded that stretchers are unstable, 29.5% had an experience of having patients fall off the stretcher inside an ambulance. There were comments on installing equipments to prevent noise, and assist communication. Conclusion: The suggested practical layout contains five main modifications 1. Developing specially designed belt is needed for paramedic safety & efficient work. 2. The seats are molded to be ergonomically friendly. 3. Equipments to secure the body and safety devices for CPR are needed. 4. System improvement for communication between the driver seat and paramedics is needed. 5. The stretchers are molded to be maximize efficiency and minimize injury.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the mediating effects of self-efficacy on the relationship between job stress and turnover intention of paramedics in hospitals. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 209 paramedics in hospitals from September 4 to 24, 2015. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis using Baron & Kenny's 3 step procedure. Indirect effect was confirmed with Sobel test using SPSS/Win 22.0 program. Results: There were negative relationships between job stress, self-efficacy, and turnover intention (r=-.509, p<.001). There was a negative relationship between job stress and self efficacy (r=-.821, p<.001). The self-efficacy and turnover intention showed a positive relationship (r=.636, p<.001) with job stress and turnover intention. Concerning the mediated effect of self efficacy on job stress and turnover intention, the influence of job stress at step 2 on turnover intention was significant (B=1.207, p<.001), while job stress at step 3 had significant influence on turnover intention (B=.474, p<.001). The mediated effect of self-efficacy on job stress and turnover intention showed significant partially mediated effect of self-efficacy (z=7.100, p<.001). Conclusion: Improvement of self-efficacy and job stress was effective at decreasing turnover intention in paramedics in hospitals.
The purpose of the study is to investigate the intravenous access of paramedics in ambulance. The study consisted of confidence change in pre and post intravenous access by driving condition and speed of the vehicle. The research subjects were 30 119 paramedics (20 level 1 emergency medical technicians, 10 nurses), and 6 ambulance driving conditions were established in order to measure the number of attempts at intravenous access. The data was collected for 9 days from May 18 through May 27, 2017. The results show no disparities in number of attempts in terms of stop conditions and flat section driving conditions(p=.161) although there were significant disparities in unpaved road(p=.003), speed bump(p=.005), curve(p=.022), and slope(p=.003) section driving conditions. Confidence appeared to significantly rise(p=.000) after the experiment. In conclusion, it is recommended that swift intravenous access inside an ambulance while driving is attempted when the vehicle has come to a stop or a flat section and paramedics should maintain their confidence in intravenous access through continued training.
Ambulances are an important element of pre-hospital emergency medical services, and also an important space for improving the work efficiency of paramedics. Paramedics use the interior environment to maximize the capabilities of the space, but ambulances need to be improved to help with the responsibilities of paramedics. A Seamless space was constructed in accordance with the placement of first-aid emergency medical equipment and drugs, and a patient room was loaded in the interior space of an ambulance. This study was to improve the treatment space of an ambulance to improve the efficiency of work by paramedics The new design provides safety and efficiency for emergency medical services through planning of interior storage suitable for the duties of paramedics and through identification and analysis of the problems in the environment.

In this paper, we propose a taping therapy as effective intervention for patients with the back pain. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of taping intervention on the VAS evaluated score and he muscular activation degree among 119 paramedics with musculoskeletal injury. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, data was collected from 15 paramediecs in the paramedics department of 3 fire stations under J city's fire defense headquarters. The following results can be obtained by measuring the subjective, the back muscle strength and the buckling-anteflexion before and after the taping for 15 119 paramedics. Through the verification experiment of taping effect to paramedics during the stretcher lifting in this study the VAS evaluated score for the backache are $1.67{\pm}0.62$ before and $0.80{\pm}0.68$ after the application of taping which show statistically significant decrease(p<0.05). In the experimentof joint operation range the measured buckling anteflexion length are $14.62cm{\pm}4.89$ before and $16.41cm{\pm}4.11cm$ after the application of taping which show statistically meaningful difference(p<0.05). In the comparison of muscle activity about paramedics erector spinae(ES) shows the meaningful decrease and external obliques(EO) displays the significant increase. Erector spinae(ES) and internal obliques(IO) show the increasing trend in the muscle activity although they are not significant. the muscle activity for the erector spinae is lowered so that the contribution to the force required for the extensor during the stretcher lifting is resultingly reduced to have the effects of enhancing the activity of abdominal muscles.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate basic data on preceptor's core competencies required for junior 119 paramedics to improve the quality of emergency care in the prehospital field. Methods: From February 23 to March 10, 2021, data were collected through structured mobile questionnaires from 163 paramedics working in Sejong, Daejeon, and Chung Nam fire stations. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0. Results: The average score of core competencies for junior 119 paramedics accounted for the importance of core competency (3.92 points), level of competence (3.43 points), educational needs (3.65 points). Among them, the importance of a role model accounted for 4.02 points, the highest among the sub-areas. Additionally, there was a significant correlation (r=.686), which was the highest, between the importance and educational needs of core competency; therefore, higher the importance of core competency, higher are the educational needs. Conclusion: Preceptor's core competencies concern three domains: role model, socialization facilitation, and instructional design. It would be more effective for those with higher professionalism and professional self-development needs to be trained as a prehospital preceptor.
This study aimed to develop a visually differentiated quarantine suit design for giving 119 paramedics comfort to work and psychological stability and to awaken awareness without fear or pressure of the public through literature review and practical research. Basic research was conducted on firefighting uniforms and quarantine suits in Korea and abroad, focusing on domestic and foreign related literature. An interview survey was conducted to identify the current status, problems, and preferences of the design. Research subjects were eight dispatched paramedics and two executives in Seoul and Gwangju. The survey period was from September 15, 2022 to October 10, 2022. Interviews were conducted through phone calls. Results of this study were as follows. Most of the quarantine suits currently worn were Level D style ready-made clothes without coverall patterns. The current quarantine suit was designed without reflecting the symbolism of the National Fire Agency. They were wearing a generous size without having to think about the fit. Most of these quarantine suits were white. In addition, the quarantine suit could not be equipped with a camera for the safety of paramedics. After identifying improvements based on results of the above interview analysis, the following quarantine suit design was proposed. First, it would be differentiated from other institutions by designing suits with symbolism. Second, the convenience of size, camera equipment, and better breathability and style than Level D should be considered. Based on these results, a total of five quarantine suits were designed.
