The Protein Structural and Functional Conservation need a common language for data definition. With the help of common language provided by Protein Ontology the high level of sequence and functional conservation can be extended to all organisms with the likelihood that proteins that carry out core biological processes will again be probable orthologues. The structural and functional conservation in these proteins presents both opportunities and challenges. The main opportunity lies in the possibility of automated transfer of protein data annotations from experimentally traceable model organisms to a less traceable organism based on protein sequence similarity. Such information can be used to improve human health or agriculture. The challenge lies in using a common language to transfer protein data annotations among different species of organisms. First step in achieving this huge challenge is producing a structured, precisely defined common vocabulary using Protein Ontology. The Protein Ontology described in this paper covers the sequence, structure and biological roles of Protein Complexes in any organism.
In South Korea, the conflict between development and conservation policy still exist among government ministries, and conventional development plan often has priority over conservation policy. Establishment of sustainable development and comprehensive management policy employing the results of ecosystem service studies are highly warranted, but researchers in South Korea are still limited and often misuse the concept of ecosystem services. Thus, we aimed to introduce the concept of Ecosystem Service (ES) and related terminologies such as Social-Ecological Systems (SESs), ecosystem function, trade-off, and human well-being in this paper. Additionally, this article reviewed and arranged key approaches in ES studies as follows: 1) field works, 2) mapping ecosystem services, 3) valuing ES, 4) quantifying trade-offs between ES and 5) understanding SESs. Based on those results, we suggest that field works for basic information have the first priority to be conducted among ES studies. Once basic information is sufficiently accumulated, researchers can perform applied ES research with accuracy. Finally, results of ES studies conducted by five approaches allow decision makers to consider both natural system and society simultaneously, and hence the results can be utilized for sustainable development and conservation policy based on ecosystem-based management.
Urban is made over a long period of time. In the process, architecture involves design characteristics of age and place. In the case of modem western style architecture, just depend on the economic logic, they are continuously threatened during urban changes. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to recognize modern western style architecture as valuable things, which represents color of urban, and to seek how it can be reused. This is a process in order to find a new method for conservation and reuse of modern western style architecture. The result are as followings. Modern western style architecture must be recognized as resource, which expresses identity of urban, and found a method for conservation and reuse of facade at least. So we need to search design characteristics of facade. It has been analyzed that assigned modem western style architecture in seoul can be divided into 6 groups. Each group has individual characteristics of facade expression, which is 'dormer', 'vent', 'balustrade', 'cornice', 'dome', 'tower', etc in top part, and 'the shape of window and door', 'the element of ornament', 'finish', etc in middle part.

Excavated archaeological iron artifacts are usually conducted the conservation treatment for removal of chloride ions in the corrosion products. However, some iron artifacts are corroded again even after the conservation treatment due to unremoved chloride ions. Therefore, it is important to prevent desalinized artifacts from the occurrence of corrosion after the treatment. In this paper, we investigated the characteristics of corrosion products on salinized iron artifacts and evaluated the variety of desalination methods such as autoclave, intensive washing and NaOH. It was also found that ${\beta}-FeOOH$ (Akaganeite) played an important role on the occurrence of corrosion and the treatment for removal of chloride ions. The extents of desalination were compared between the desalination methods. Results showed that the autoclave method represented the highest efficiency for desalination while the intensive washing method was the lowest.

The purpose of this study is to develop a integrated(fusion) utilization model aimed at maximizing the development/management functions of urban estuarine area and to present an integrated concept by analyzing the existing document and data. The main points of this study are as follows: 1) The integrated utilization model suggested in this paper goes beyond the existing idea of sustainable utilization and conservation, putting an emphasis on rational decision-making in estuary management and peaceful coexistence between human and nature. 2) Policies for utilization/development/conservation/regeneration of urban estuarine area include the establishment of communication system between human and nature and a safety net considering both human and nature, the support for environment-friendly community development and the importance of preserving valuable ecosystem and wetland habitat. 3) Lastly, this study suggested that the major tasks for the fusion utilization model development are the integrated management of estuary areas, the conservation and preservation of wetland ecosystem, proper utilization of estuary's productivity, and the introduction and action plans of the integrated management model including the best way to address contamination and disaster management.
Oil painting shows a wide variety of damages due to differentcohesiveness between materials and different responses to temperature and humidity. The deforming flatness of canvas is a major cause of deterioration. The heat, pressure and moisture, and classical materials which had been traditionally used to correct the deformation of supports have caused damages to the paintings. In modern restoration of paintings, new methods have been developed to avoid the use of such potentially harmful elements. In this paper the correcting of deformed support with the use of low-pressure table, deformation correction frame and new materials, which has been developed both to protect the works and to maximize the effect of restoration.
The Master Plan of Natural Environment Conservation in Korea by Ministry of Environment has been carried out since 1986. The 2nd 10-year survey started in 1997, and there are three major parts in the Master Plan : First, the basic natural environment survey, second, sites in special features of ecological characteristics such as uninhabitable islands, wetlands, etc, and third, biological species featuring status of habitat, and population dynamics. However the information in the Master Plan is very fragmented and collected data are not so abundant due to insufficient man-power and unsynchronized survey time/season. In this regard this paper examined the similar National Biological Survey in USA and compared the differences with the Master Plan in Korea. The Master Plan in Korea should separate the management zone based on hydrological characteristics, and in each zone we should set a management goal in the long term basis. Secondly the species list is not so meaningful that we must concentrate more on research activities. In each taxonomical group we set up hypotheses and research goals. Thirdly local residents and communities should be involved in research so that enhanced biological diversity should benefit people in areas. Lastly legislation and laws should be reexamined and rectified to provide information to the managers that deals with natural resources, expecially when conflicting with economic matters.

In this paper, the voltage measurement-based coordinated Voltage/VAR control (VMCVVC) algorithm for conservation voltage reduction(CVR) is proposed. The proposed algorithm has the purpose of enhancing the CVR effect through coordinated control of the voltage control devices such as the distributed energy resources and the load tap changer(LTC) transformers. It calculates the references of the voltage control devices such that the bus voltages are maintained at as close to the lower operation limit as possible. For this purpose, firstly, the distribution system is divided into LTC transformer control zones through topological search. Secondly, the reactive power references of the reactive power control devices are determined such that the voltage profile of the section is flattened. Finally, the tap references of the LTC transformers are calculated to lower the voltage profile. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through case studies using IEEE test network.
This paper demonstrates the possible nondestructive analysis of iron artifacts' metallurgical characteristics using neutron imaging. Ancient kingdoms of the Korean Peninsula used a direct smelting process for ore smelting and iron bloom production; however, the use of iron blooms was difficult because of their low strength and purity. For reinforcement, iron ingots were produced through refining and forge welding, which then underwent various processes to create different iron goods. To demonstrate the potential analysis using neutron imaging, while ensuring artifacts' safety, a sand iron ingot (SI-I) produced using ancient traditional iron making techniques and a sand iron knife (SI-K) made of SI-I were selected. SI-I was cut into 9 cm2, whereas the entirety of SI-K was preserved for analysis. SI-I was found to have an average grain size of 3 ㎛, with observed α-Fe (ferrite) and pearlite with a body-centered cubic (BCC) lattice structure. SI-K had a grain size of 1-3 ㎛, α-Ferrite on its backside, and martensite with a body-centered tetragonal (BCT) structure on its blade. Results show that the sample's metallurgical characteristics can be identified through neutron imaging only, without losing any part of the valuable artifacts, indicating applicability to cultural artifacts requiring complete preservation.
This research is to conservate the old hat and restore its shape and place it on a supportive form in a stable protective container. The hat is a homemade construction, utilizing three different machine made laces, and two cotton net fabrics. The exterior, particularly the top crown piece, as well as the lace along the brim's edge has been generally soiled and discolored. Inside the crown, the cotton net has broken threads, and thread loss in several areas. The paper covering the two wires is very weak, and has discolored the lace in the areas of contact. The plastic buckles of the velvet ribbon have also discolored the areas where there is contact. The wash/bleach bath procedure was very effective. Virtually all of the light brown surface discoloration stains were removed. The darker brown spots, particularly concentrated around the two paper covered wires and assumed to be rust, were $90\%$ removed by the treatment. The brown spots apparently were due to the degradation of the paper covering, and not caused by the wire itself. The buckram foundation lost about $50\%$ of its stiffness, but this was not a major concern due to the fact that this hat should remain it its mount, which has been designed to serve for both storage and exhibition purposes.
