A New CMOS IC Package Design Methodology Based on the Analysis of Switching Characteristics (CMOS IC 패키지의 스위치 특성 해석 및 최적설계)

  • A new design methodology for the shortchannel CMOS IC-package is presented. It is developed by representing the package inductance with an effective lumpedinductance. The worst case maximum-simultaneous-switching noise (SSN) and gate propagation delay due to the package are modeled in terms of driver geometry, the maximum number of simultaneous switching drivers, and the effective inductance. The SSN variations according to load capacitances are investigated with this model. The package design techniques based on the proposed guidelines are verified by performing HSPICE simulations with the $0.35\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS model parameters.

  • Package-On-Package (PoP) technology is developing toward smaller form factors with high-speed data transfer capabilities to cope with high DDR4x memory capacity. The common application processor (AP) used for PoP devices in smartphones has the bottom package as logic and the top package as memory, which requires both thermally and electrically enhanced functions. Therefore, it is imperative that PoP designs consider both thermal and power distribution network (PDN) issues. Stacked packages have poorer thermal dissipation than single packages. Since the bottom package usually has higher power consumption than the top package, the bottom package impacts the thermal budget of the top package (memory). This paper investigates the thermal and electrical characteristics of PoP designs, particularly the bottom package. Findings include that via and dense via-cluster volume have an important role to lower thermal resistance to the motherboard, which can be an effective way to manage chip hot spots and reduce the thermal impact on the memory package. A Cu block and dense via-cluster layout with an optimal location are proposed to drain the heat from the chip hot spots to motherboard which will enhance thermal and electrical performance at the design stage. The analytical thermal results can be used for design guidelines in 3D packaging.

  • Electronic products are subjected to many different types of shock environment. As the Optical Disc Drive (ODD) market grows, the number of failures related to shock increases. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the performance of cushion package as well as the product design. Cushion materials such as expanded polystyrene are often used to protect electronic products from shock environment. In this paper, the drop analysis of the cushion package f3r optical disc drives was carried out with the explicit method of LS-DYNA and verified by the drop test. For the optimization of package, response surface approximation model was created using central composite design. As a result, cushioning performance was improved under the critical condition and practical design guidelines of cushion package were suggested.

  • In this paper, we present important factors and methodologies that we have to follow for secure and efficient package management systems in a closed network. By analyzing previous works, we present several security considerations for the existing package management systems. Based on the consideration, we propose guidelines regarding the use of package management systems in the closed network. More specifically, we propose the development of new package management tools, utilization of physical storage media, utilization of local backup repositories, package updates, and downgrade batches for secure and efficient package management.

  • Purpose: In this study, we propose the ESS process model which, in order to improve reliability of electronic equipment, can be referenced in both development and production phases. Methods: ESS guidelines such as MIL handbooks or private sector ESS guidelines are used for devising the proposed ESS model. Especially, proposed model is customized by using those references in order to be optimized in the domestic development and production phases. Results: ESS-related-requirements which is specified in the Technical Data Package(TDP) for the area of guided missile systems are analyzed. Current status of the requirement and screening strength are analyzed for those systems to show what kind of weak points should be improved. Conclusion: A ESS guideline which is applicable to the domestic weapon acquisition environment is proposed. As such, the necessity and detail guidelines of the proposed model are explained.

  • A new vehicle design approach coupled with an ergonomic human model was proposed in the study. The seating package layout of a vehicle is very important to the driving comfort, and it has been one of the primary ergonomic research areas since the past 30 years. The diverse and interrelated design factors of seating package layout in the limited workspace make designers often neglect many parameters related with drivers which differ in their anthropometric characteristics. It is due to the lack of the proper tools by which the designer can easily apply several ergonomic design guidelines to the vehicle design. In this study. an iterative package layout procedure was developed, and the effectiveness of an ergonomic human model was examined in this procedure. A discomfort function was developed for the quantitative evaluation of the driving posture. This study clearly demonstrates that the package layout using an ergonomic human model is very helpful to improve the usability and driving comfort of the drivers or passengers.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to suggest a package layout guideline for low-floor bus by interview with passengers and observations of their behavior. Background: Increasing attention has been introduced the low-floor bus to be more suitable for use by transportation handicapped. Complex issues are involved in providing comfortable services to all people. We are going to suggest package layout guidelines for more comfortable and suitable travel to all people. Method: The two times of survey and video observation sessions were conducted on low-floor buses in Seoul; (1) a finding of potential issues in the first session, (2) a confirming of issues from the last session. Results: The three of major issues were founded in this study; (1) difficulties in supporting body when standing, (2) difficulties in sitting on front wheel pan seat, (3) difficulties in passing through the aisle. Conclusion: There were clear differences between public and transportation handicapped in using some tools which are used for support body such as roof hand rails, side hand rails, and hand rail rings. Some of design problems were founded to improve from the perspective of ergonomics and universal design. Such differences and design guidelines have to be considered in bus design as well as commercial vehicle. Application: The proposed design guidelines can be used to development of low-floor bus and other public transportations.

Priority-setting in Expanding the Basic Benefit Package in Korean Health Insurance Scheme (건강보험 기본급여의 우선순위)

  • Universal health insurance normally requires a basic benefit package, whose design intersects with almost all other aspects of the health insurance debate. Despite its central importance, basic benefit package has not received the analysis it deserves in Korea. The issue of how to decide which health services should be delivered and to whom has been a matter for consistent policy debate. Many industrialized countries observed in this study have been dealing explicitly or implicitly with the basic benefit package. The methods vary from having a specific positive list of services (Bismarkian countries) to the use of guidelines (Beveridgian countries). The purpose of this paper is to form the underlying principles and process for determining what is included or left out by getting accurate and representative responses from health-related personnel. Mail survey is used. Economic burden for treatment, seriousness of disease and urgency of treatment are ranked at the first three priorities. Services that had been suspended because of financial crisis in health insurance scheme in 2001 were selected as items which should firstly be expanded into coverage. Diagnostic test against heart disease and vaccination were also selected as items which should additionally belong to the list of covered services.

  • To develop a compact vehicle for women, the most important areas are 'behavioral characteristics, life style and driving posture'. Static AM95%ile manikin is used for package guideline. Since women's characteristics and sitting position are different from men, however, the guideline cannot satisfy women drivers. Therefore, the goal of this study is to make the database with dynamic women's driving posture and behavioral characteristics at compact vehicle. Research process will be made as follows. Firstly, through the online/offline survey and statistic analysis, lifestyle and behavioral characteristics (discomfort elements) of women are extracted. Secondly, the author performs scenario test to acquire the discomfort value of driving situation and life style. 3D models of women's manikin and driving posture were created by CATIA HUMAN. The 3D models are used for the purpose of analyzing women's driving posture. Finally, with the ANOVA result and comparison between real driving posture and package guidelines, the author is able to suggest the main issue for women drivers.

A Study on ERP Package Assessment Model in Business Firms

  • Many IT specialists say that ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is the best way to manage resources in enterprise effectively. Actually lots of companies are using ERP solutions in the hope of getting competitiveness and employing global standard business practice. Wishing to take advantage of ERP S/W, companies have a preference for purchasing it and outsourcing ERP project. This paper is focusing on ERP Package assessment model in business firms. This paper finds out what differences there are in purchasing ERP S/W for organization characteristics and building characteristics, and suggests some guidelines of S/W development to venders. The results would be strong implications for ERP vendors. Especially this paper identify what the reasons and the checkpoints are when firms introduce ERP S/W. To do this, this paper used empirical data obtained from companies in South Korea and analyzed it using statistical software.
