  • The burning velocities of conventional and oxygen-enriched methane flame in various equivalence ratio were determined by experiments. The validity of existing reaction mechanisms was examined in oxygen-enriched flame on the basis of the experiment results. Modified reaction mechanism is suggested, which was able to predict burning velocity of oxygen enriched flame as well as methane-air flame. Complementary study on reaction mechanisms shows the following results : Present experiment data were found to be more reliable in comparison with existing ones in a oxygen-enrichment condition. It was found that some modification in existing reaction mechanisms is necessary, since discrepancy between measurements and predictions is increasing with oxygen enrichment ratio. The sensitivity analysis was performed to discriminate the dominantly affecting reactions on the burning velocity in various oxygen enrichment and equivalence ratio. A modified GRI 3.0 reaction mechanism based on our experiment results was suggested, in which reaction rate coefficients of (R38) H+O$_2$<=>O+OH in GRI 3.0 reaction mechanisms were corrected based on sensitivity analysis results. This mechanism showed a good agreement in predicting the burning velocity and number density of NO in oxygen-enriched flame and would provide proper reaction information of oxygen-enriched flame at this stage.

  • The effects of differential partial pressures of oxygen during sputtering on the magnetic and recording characteristics of magneto-optical disks were investigated. Different flows of oxygen were deliberately introduced into the sputtering chamber to have a variety of partial pressures of oxygen during sputtering. A residual gas analyzer was employed to monitor the oxygen peak before, during, and after sputtering and to estimate the reacted oxygen amount. Most of the oxygen introduced into the chamaber was reacted during sputtering. As the partial pressure of oxygen increased, the oxygen content of the TbFeCoCr film increased also. The oxygen appeared to be bound as Tb-O, effectively decreasing the magnetically active Tb content of the film The coercivity decreased but the squareness of the Kerr hysteresis loops was still excellent. The perpendicular anisotropy was not significantly affected by oxygen amount. The carrier-to-noise ratio, includi!1g the write power sensitivity and bias field sensitivity did not change too much with oxygen content in the film The disks sputtered with oxygen showed better bias field sensitivity with lower write power threshold than the disk sputtered without oxygen, due to high demagnetization during domain formation. No significant degradation of coercivity for the disk sputtered oxygen was observed during an accelerated aging test.

  • We have investigated the temperature dependence of CO gas sensitivity for ZnO and ZnO-CuO thick films at 200 ppm CO gas, where those films were prepared by thermal transformation. The ZnO thick film shows the maximum sensitivity of -4 at >$300^{\circ}C$ On the other hand, ZnO-CuO(more than 1mol%) thick film shows that the maximum sensitivity reduced to less than 1.5. The decrease in sensitivity of CO gas with increasing the CuO contents is due to the decrease of the oxygen absorption in thick films.

  • Distortion of Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry(SIMS) depth profile, which is usually observed when the analysis is made using oxygen flooding on the surface of Si with oxide on it, has been corrected. The origin of distortion has been attributed to depth calibration error due to sputter rate difference and concentration calibration error due to relative sensitivity factor(RSF) difference between $SiO_2$ and Si layers, In order to correct depth calibration error, artifact in analysis of sodium ion on oxide was used to define the interface in SIMS depth profile and oxide thickness was measured with SEM and XPS. The differences of sputter rate and RSF between two layers have been attributed to volume swelling of Si substrate occurred by oxygen flooding induced oxidation. The corrected SIMS depth profiles showed almost the same results with those obtained without oxygen flooding.

  • Nanostructured ceria powder was synthesized by a thermochemical process and investigated its applicability for an oxygen gas sensor. An amorphous precursor powders prepared by spray drying a cerium-nitrate solution were transformed successfully into nanostructured ceria by heat-treatment in air atmosphere. The powders were a loose agglomerated structure with extremely fine $CeO_2$ particles about 15 nm in size, resulting in a very high specific surface area $(110\;m^2/g)$. The oxygen sensitivity and the response time $t_{90}$ measured at sintered sample at $1000^{\circ}C$ was about -0.25 and very short, i.e., $3{\sim}5$ seconds, respectively.

  • Gas sensing effects produced by adsorptive reaction between specimen surface and gases are expected to be influenced greatly by the state of the speimen surface. In this study, Co1-xMgxO ceramics oxygen sensors were prepared by pressing at 0.3-1.5ton/cm\ulcornerwith or without binder, intending to change porosity and average grain size on the surface purposely. The composition ratio of CoO to MgO was fixed at 1:1(mol.%). Microstructure of prepared Co0.5Mg0.5O ceramics were observed, the electrical properties and the sensitivity characteristics for oxygen gas were investigated in the device temperature range of 700-1000\ulcorner and for oxygen partical pressure range of 1-10**-4 atm. Temperature dependence of the resistivity of the specimen showed NTC behavior, average grain size increased and porosity decreased with increasing compaction pressure. The slope of the resistivity of the specimen on the oxygen partial pressure decreased with increasing average grain size and with decreasing porosity. Particularly, specimen pressed by 0.3 and 0.5 ton/cm\ulcornershowed the highest sensitivity to oxygen gas.

  • Burning velocities of conventional methane flame and oxygen-enriched methane flame were determined by experimentally and numerically at atmospheric pressure in order to examine the validity of various detailed reaction mechanisms in oxygen-enriched flame. The schlieren system was adopted to obtain the burning velocity of flame stabilized on a circular nozzle. Premix code was employed to compute the burning velocity. Three reaction mechnisms were tested at several oxygen enrichment level, whose names are GRI 3.0, MB(Miller and Bowman) and LKY(Lee Ki Yong) reaction mechanism. Sensitivity analysis was also performed to discriminate dominantly affecting reaction on burning velociy. The results showed that conventional reaction mechanisms originally based on methane-air flame were underpredict the burning velocity at high oxygen-enrichment level. The modified GRI 3.0 reaction mechanism based on our experimental results was suggested and shows a good agreement in estimating the burning velocity and the NO number density of oxygen-enriched flame.

  • Purpose: For estimation of yields of l)NA damages induced by radiation and enhanced by oxygen, a mathematical model was used and tested. Materials and Methods: Reactions of the products of water radiolysis were modeled as an ordinary time dependant equations. These reactions include formation of radicals, DNA damage, damage repair, restitution, and damage fixation by oxygen and H-radical. Several rate constants were obtained from literature while others were calculated by fitting an experimental data. Sensitivity studies were performed changing the chemical rate constant at a constant oxygen number density and varying the oxygen concentration. The effects of oxygen concentration as well as the damage fixation mechanism by oxygen were investigated. Oxygen enhancement ratio(OER) was calculated to compare the simulated data with experimental data. Results: Sensitivity studies with oxygen showed that DNA survival was a function of both oxygen concentration and the magnitude of chemical rate constants. There were no change in survival fraction as a function of dose while the oxygen concentration change from 0 to 1.0 x 10$^{7}$ . When the oxygen concentration change from 1.0 $\times$ 107 to 1.0 $\times$ 101o, there was significant decrease in cell survival. The OER values obtained from the simulation study were 2.32 at 10% cell survival level and 1.9 at 45% cell survival level. Conclusion: Sensitivity studies with oxygen demonstrated that the experimental data were reproduced with the effects being enhanced for the cases where the oxygen rate constants are largest and the oxygen concentration is increased. OER values obtained from the simulation study showed good agreement for a low level of cell survival. This indicated that the use of the semi-empirical model could predict the effect of oxygen in cell killing.

  • The dissolved oxygen sensor of thick film type was fabricated by screen print method and measured the characteristic, reference electrode used Ag/AgCl, and working electrode used Pt. The devices are continuously powered at potential of $0.7V{\sim}0.8V$ versus Ag/AgCl reference electrode and results indicated that the response characteristic of sensor was $1.002{\mu}A{\sim}19.792{\mu}A$ for thirty seconds. we can know that it is good linearity when compared with of existent dissolved oxygen meter. Therefore sensor fabricated excels sensitivity for dissolved oxygen and will be considered to be applied typically because the price is costly.

  • Membrane proteins of facultatively anaerobic Escherichia coli K12 which was logarithmically grown in aerobiosis and anaerobiosis were compared on 5 to 10% liner gradient gel electrophoresis (Na Dod $SO_4 -PAGE$). Membrane proteins were formed as different patterns between aerobiosis and anaerobiosis. Among them, 91Kdal protein (pbp1a) was not synthesized in aerobiosis and 60Kdal protein (fts cluster), in anaerobiosis. Thereby cells cultured aerobically were differenciated as diversiform cell shape, comparing cells cultured anaerobically and the latter were resistant to penicillin G. Thus it is believed that in facultative anaerobes atmospheric oxygen regulated the synthesis of membrane proteins and even the expression of equivalent genes, and moreover alleviated the resistance to an antibiotic penicillin.
