  • The titanium oxide thin films were prepared by anodic oxidation. The Photo-electrochemical properties of the electrodes were studied in 1 M NaOH solution. The flat band potentials of $TiO_2$ electrodes prepared by anodic oxidation showed around -0.8V and the values were shifted 0.2V to the positive potential direction that of single crystal $TiO_2$. Reduction potential of oxygen by cyclic voltammetry showed around -0.95V vs. SCE and these reactions were processed totally irreversible. The photocurrent of electrodes were showed shorter wavelength than that of single crystal $TiO_2$ and its current density decreased.

  • The results and discussions of surveyed case site at constructed steel pile in potential acid sulfate soil were as follows. Topography at surveyed site was local alluvial valley and that site soils was classified as BanGog and YuGye series as detailed soil surveyed results in RDA and soil texture was Clay/Clay Loam. Soils pH was neutral, which was average 7.5 but much decreased to average 4.2 after $H_2O_2$ treatment. Organic matter and sulfate ions contents were very rich. The corrosion was severe at ground water fluctuation depth. Deposits colored black were attached to steel pile surface, which because of violent reaction in treatment HCI solution, were guessed as corrosion products (FeS) reduced by sulfate reducing bacteria(SRB). Consequently, main cause was thought microbiologically induced corrosion at this site where there is ground water fluctuation occurring oxidation and reduction reactions in turn and the soil is potential acid sulfate soil.

  • Baker's yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae) was used as a biocatalyst for eco-friendly indigo dyeing and the reducing power of yeast according to the alkaline solution type was compared. NaOH solution, lye, and buffer solution were used as alkaline solutions. The reducing power(K/S value, oxidation/reduction potential(ORP), pH) was monitored according to the elapsed time including the initiation of reduction, peak reduction, and the end of reduction. In all alkaline solutions, it was confirmed that yeast can be used reducing agent in indigo reduction dyeing. The pH stability and reducing power of buffer solution was better than that of NaOH alone. Although, pH and ORP stability of the reduction bath in lye were better than that of buffer solution, K/S value in buffer solution was higher compared to lye. The reducing power was different depending on the starting pH of the dye bath, and it was better when starting at pH 10.70 than at pH 11.30. Fastnesses to washing, rubbing, and light were relatively good with above rating 4. There was no significant difference in colorfastness depending on the type of alkaline solutions.

  • The oxidation of pure Sn and Sn-0.7Cu, Sn-3.5Ag, Sn-lZn, and Sn-9Zn alloys at $150^{\circ}C$ was investigated. Both the chemical nature and the amount of oxides were characterized using electrochemical reduction analysis by measuring the electrolytic reduction potential and total transferred electrical charges. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was also conducted to support the results of reduction analysis. The effect of Cu, Ag and Zn addition on surface oxidation of Sn alloys is reported. For Sn, Sn-0.7Cu and Sn-3.5Ag, SnO grew first and then the mixture of SnO and $SnO_2$ was found. $SnO_2$ grew predominantly for a long-time aging. For Zn containing Sn alloys, both ZnO and $SnO_2$ were formed. Zn promotes the formation of $SnO_2$. Sn oxide growth rate of Pb-free solder alloys was also discussed in terms of alloying elements.

  • As the semiconductor devices are miniaturized, the number of the unit cleaning processes increases. In order to processes by conventional RCA cleaning process, the consumption of volume of liquid chemical and DI water became huge. Therefore, the problem of environmental issues are evolved by the increased consumption of chemicals. To resolve this matter, an advanced cleaning process by Electrolyzed Water was studied in this work. The electrolyzed water was made by an electrolysis equipment which was composed of three chambers of anode, cathode, and middle chambers. In the case of electrolyzed water with electrolytes in the middle chamber, oxidatively acidic water of anode and reductively alkaline water of cathode were obtained. The oxidation/reduction potentials and pH of anode water and cathode water were measured to be +l000mV and 4.8, and -530mV and 6.3, respectively. The Si-wafers contaminated with metallic impurities were cleaning with the electrolyzed water. To analysis the amounts of metallic impurities on Si-water surfaces, ICP-MS(Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass spectrometer) was introduced. From results of ICP-MS measurements, it was concluded that the ability of electrolyzed water was equivalent to that of the conventional RCA cleaning.

  • New post plasma nitriding can achieve a high uniformity that have been difficult in DC nitriding and have a high productivity comparable to gas nitriding. However, it has not a enough high nitriding potential for a rapid nitriding, because surface activation or ion etching in the general plasma nitriding cannot be expected. Thus, in this study, the effects of pre-treatments with oxidation and reduction gas have been investigated to improve the nitriding kinetics of post plasma nitriding. An effective pre-treatment consisting of oxidation and reduction resulted in the increase of surface energy of STD 11. This induced the surface hardness and the effective nitriding depth of STD 11. It is thought that the increase of the surface energy and the surface area with pre-treatment promote the nucleation of nitriding layer.

  • In order to evaluate the mechanism of electrolytic oxidation of iodate and to determine the optimum conditions for the electrolysis, studies were made using the cells without diaphragm and the lead peroxide anode. Results are summarized as followings: 1) Current density vs. anode potential curve by lead peroxide electrode had the different limiting current densities from platinum electrode and was more positive than platinum electrode. 2) Additions of potassium bichromate in the electrolyte contribute to maintain high current efficiency. 3) In the acid and alkaline regions, the current efficiencies decreased by reduction of iodate and discharge of hydroxyl ion, so maximum current efficiency was shown at pH 7. 4) Higher current density lowered the current efficiency in the region of 60-80% conversion of iodate. 5) Influence of the conversion on current efficiency in the region of 60-80% conversion of iodate.

  • The 1,3-bis(4-aminoaryl)squaraines showed color, change behavior, they were found to undergo reduction with sodium borohydride in solution to give colorless leuco compounds, which oxidized readily in air back to the colored squaraine dye. We have shown that initial observations indicated that the derivatives synthesized gave new donor-acceptor chromophores. It is also interesting to note than the oxidation of the leuco squaraines did initially produce a species absorbing about 630-680 wavelengths. The 1,3-squaraines have found many uses as near-infrared absorbers, laser dyes and photoconductive materials. Furthermore their color-change redox behavior has potential in the area of peroxidase-based bioassaysas oxidation sensitive indicator systems were investigated.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop effective operating process in order to achieve more suitable conditions of Anoxic-Oxic-Anoxic-Stripper(AOAS) SBR through real-time control. To improve the removal efficiency, glucose, methanol and synthetic food waste acid fermentant were added as an external carbon source, In the case of glucose and synthetic food waste acid fermentant, TN, TP were removed to average 86.9%, 73.0% respectively. Methanol was removed to average 64.6%, 55.4% respectively. The synthetic food waste acid fermentant proved to be the most efficient and allowed for the substitution of an external carbon source. The removal rate of $COD_{Cr}$, was approximately 90% at all cases. The results of the study that a correlation between ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential), pH and DO and nitrification or denitrification when an external carbon source is added and when it isn't was showed that ${\Delta}ORP$ is suitable parameter. ORP reacted properly to denitrification (${\Delta}ORP<-10$) and nitrification (${\Delta}ORP<0$). The use of real-time control saved anywhere between 61 and 67 minutes at the anoxic(1) stage and 26 to 52 minutes at the oxic(1) stage. When the time saved from the anoxic(1) and oxic(1) was added to the anoxic(2) stage for the removal efficiency of TN and TP increased from 0.7 to 13.9% and 12 to 35 % respectively.
