The purpose of this study is to improve the wear resistance and hardness of Al alloy by making a formation of the thick surface hardening layers. The thick surface hardening layers were formed by PTAW(Plasma Transferred Arc Welding), with the addition of metal powders (Cu), ceramics powders (NbC, TiC), and mixture powders (Cu+NbC) in Al alloy (A1050, A5083). Mechanical properties of overlaid layers (wear resistance, hardness) were investigated in relation to the microstructure. The results obtained are summarized as follows: The depth of penetration was increased with increasing powder feeding rate. It is considered that these increase were due to the thermal pinch effect by the addition of powders, especially, for the Cu powders, were due to the heat of reaction with the matrix. The hardness and wear resistance of overlaid layers were improved with increasing powder feeding rate. For the Cu powders, it is considered that these increase were due to the increase of the formation of ${\theta}(CuAl_2)$ phase with increasing feeding rate of Cu powers.
In vertically overlaid cellular systems, a temporary traffic concentration can occur in a hot-spot area, and this adversely affects overall system capacity. In this paper, we develop an adaptive hot-spot operating scheme (AHOS) to mitigate the negative effects from the nonuniform distribution of user location and the variation in the mixture of QoS requirements in orthogonal frequency division multiple access downlink systems. Here, the base station in a macrocell can control the operation of picocells within the cell, and turns them on or off according to the system overload estimation function. In order to determine whether the set of picocells is turned on or off, we define an AHOS gain index that describes the number of subcarriers saved to the macrocell by turning a specific picocell on. For initiating the picocell OFF procedure, we utilize the changes in traffic concentration and co-channel interference to the neighboring cells. According to computer simulation, the AHOS has been proved to have maximize system throughput while maintaining a very low QoS outage probability under various system scenarios in both a single-cell and multi-cell environments.
This study was carried out to investigate characteristics of plywood overlaid with softwood veneers densified by resin impregnation and compression. The resin impregnability of Korean pine veneer under atmospheric pressure soaking was greater than that of larch, and impregnability of melamine resin was slightly greater than phenolic resin. It was suggested that resin impregnation ratio was affected by density and thickness of veneer. The largest melamine resin impregnation ratio of 50.7% was obtained with 1.26mm thick Korean pine veneer, and the lowest phenolic resin impregnation ratio of 11.7% with 3.41mm thick larch veneer. Therefore, it was suggested that the vacuum-pres sure-soak treatment is required at thick larch veneer. In densifying resin-impregnated veneers, densification ratio from 13.4 to 31.2% was obtained by high pressure from 15.6 to $20.8kgf/cm^2$. Impregnation of melamine resin also showed relatively greater at densification than that of phenolic resin. So it showed the degree of densification of about 20% or greater. It was seemed that adhesive bonding strength of plywood(base panel) which was directly pressed and overlaid with resin-impregnated veneer was affected by resin tackiness after resin impregnation followed by semi-drying. In laboratory scale, melamine resin impregnation was more favorable for the development of adhesive bonding strength owing to moisture control.

This study is intend to evaluate natural conservation value, and to suggest natural park plan based on conservation value evaluation. In this study evaluation items are selected through related studies about ecological conservation evaluation, and evaluation items in this study can be classified into 2 aspects, ecological environment and topographic environment. After each evaluation items are overlaid with GIS program, management levels are derived from comprehensive overlaid maps of each evaluation items. Management areas can be classified into 5 levels; Critical Conservation Area, Conservation Area, Restoration Area, Passive Usable Area, Active Development Area and Settlement Area. So management areas can be matched each management levels to land use of natural park, that is district of preservation, district of natural environment, district of settlements and district of mass facilities. This study have good enough to evaluate ecological value for natural park plan, but, it is difficult to evaluate conservation value only with maps of each evaluation items, so it needs supplementary field survey for precise conservation value evaluation.

This paper analyzes the performance of the handover in an overlaid micro/macro cellular system suited for mobile communication environments. In proposed model, it is analyzed the performance of case that subscriber who move with high speed does handover to a macrocell instead of doing handover by microcell. For an easy analysis, a circle shaped cell model are assumed both in microcell and macrocell. The reservation channel scheme is adopted in microcell for a low-speed mobile while a scheme using queue is used in macrocell for a high-speed mobile. The analytic results show that the proposed scheme provides a lower handover failure relatively than in a non-overlaid cellular system with slightly increased new call blocking probability.

Patterns abstractly depicting flowing water with Chinese characters such as gong, wan(man), or wang continued endlessly and curved water patterns began appearing on textiles during the Song Dynasty. Though Song curved water patterns encompassed poetic sentiments such as "falling flowers and flowing water," the meaning faded with time, and these patterns were depicted in backgrounds with flowers added to brocade (Geum-sang-cheom-hwa). During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, combinations of diverse patterns, including flowers, butterflies, dragons, and auspicious treasures became fashionable, rather than the gong- and wan-shaped curved water patterns. Likewise, during the Joseon Dynasty, curved water patterns were preferred as background rather than as primary patterns. They were overlaid with flowers and clouds. The overlaid flower patterns included four-season flower patterns (17th-18th centuries), round flower patterns (19th century), and large flower patterns (20th century), which were identical to flower patterns fashionable at the time and arranged at intervals on complex curved water pattern backgrounds. In contrast, simple Ruyi types were more numerous than the four-Ruyi types fashionable at the time with regard to cloud patterns. Added here were Taiji (great ultimate symbol) or crane patterns, thus seeking to depict diverse auspicious Ruyi such as wish fulfillment and longevity.
The transformed field domain analysis method was developed in this study to investigate the aspects of the stress distribution in overlaid concrete pavement systems under multi-axle vehicle loads. The overlay was assumed to be perfectly bonded or perfectly unbonded to the existing concrete pavement. The loads considered included the dual tired single-axle, tandem-axle, and tridem-axle loads, and the effects of the overlay's thickness, elastic modulus, and Poisson's ratio on the stress distribution were investigated. Details of the analysis method in the transformed field domain to analyze the overlaid pavement was described in this paper and the analysis results were verified by comparing with those obtained using the finite element method. From the analysis, it was found that the maximum tensile stress in the existing slab decreased as the overlay's thickness, elastic modulus, and Poisson's ratio increased, and the bonded overlay showed more significant effects than the unbonded one. The overlay's Poisson's ratio did not much affect the stresses, and the features of the maximum stress reduction in the existing slab due to the increase of the thickness, elastic modulus, and Poisson's ratio of the overlay were investigated. The effects of the number of axles on the stress distribution and the maximum stress were also investigated.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the opacity and printing strength of MG paper overlaid plywood. The printing strength of ink on MG paper can be evaluated effectively by a formula $E^{*2}=[(L^{*})^{2}+(a^{*})^{2}+(b^{*})^{2}]^{1/2}$ that we proposed. Higher E value indicates good printing strength of ink-on-paper. We also assess the real color of translucent printed MG paper with a formula CIE ${\bigtriangleup}E^{*}$ (color difference between a pile of same paper to be opaque and fancy paper laminated board). In addition, the color difference on paper surface caused by the color of wood-based board (bottom) can be evaluated by a formula of Pc. No. Generally, an acceptable appearance quality of fancy boards is ${\bigtriangleup}E^{*}$ <2.0 and small Pc.No. value. The experimental results showed that Japan-made MG papers -J1, J2 and J3 have better printing strength and gloss than that of Taiwan-made paper (T1). The reason for this was that Taiwan-made paper has poor printing strength and low gloss, which might be correlated to the fiber compositions in paper. Higher printing strength can be seen for short fiber containing handsheets when comparing to that of handsheets. Nonetheless, low-freeness sheets gives better printing strength than that of high-freeness sheets. High-opacity MG paper gives good opacifying effect to the fancy paper laminated wood-based boards. Comparing the surface color of 2 kinds of fancy paper laminated boards, paperboard T1 laminated with high-opacity fancy paper showed slight color difference. The same results can be seen for $??g/m^{2}$ handsheets. Higher-opacity Acacia and Eucalyptus bleached sulfate pulps (short fiber) gives higher opacifying effect on the plywood when comparing to Northan pine and Radiata pine sulfate pulps(long fiber). The former ones also showed small color differences when comparing the color differences between the color of fancy paper and laminated paper board. Additionally, the color of bottom plywood can't be shown through for the high-opacify surface paper adhered to. Besides, the PC No of the base paper laminated board is small as well. Apparently, we can add colorants to the binders for the manufscture of various handsheets ($30g/m^{2}$) with various pulp mix ratios to increase the opacity of paperboards to certain extents. When we using yellow and brown binders in paper laminated board, the color difference between Acacia and Eucalyptus handsheets overlaid boards decreasing to 2.0 (acceptable ${\bigtriangleup}E^{*}$ <2.0, hard to discern), but not much improvement for Northern and Radiata pines. Definitely, show-through defects can be discernible for lower opacity papers. In general, admirable printing strength of fancy paper by which glued to plywood can be made with high-opacity paper and colored binders techniques.

In this paper, we analyze the traffic characteristics in microcell and macrocell overlaid PCS system which process voice and dta calls separately each others. in this system, data calls are delayed in queue when all of channels are occupied, while voice calls are bolcked in that case. For this, we calculated inter-microcell handoff area dwelling time distribution and handoff area dwelling time distribution between microcell and macrocell. We analyze traffic performance using this results. We used M/M/C/K model, and analyzed traffic performance of macrocell with handoff area variation of microcell.

Reflection cracks can be occurred in the asphalt layer overlaid on portland cement concrete pavements, because this layer is sensitive to environmental conditions including temperature changes and displacements of the pavement. A result of trial applications using glass fiber grids is introduced in this paper. Glass fiber grids were used between the asphalt layer and the concrete base to reduce the reflection crack of the asphalt layer. No cracks were observed in the glass grid installed area about 2 years later from trial constructions.
