Automatic Protection Schemes for Distribution System with Open and Closed-loop

  • Protection issues in distribution systems which are to be operated in open and closed-loop modes in a smart grid are studied and a generalized protection setting method is proposed to meet the new requirements. The developed setting method assumes a conventional over-current protection scheme for the system with reclosers and over-current relays. In a closed-loop mode, it identifies protective devices that have to be sacrificed in order to maximize protection coordination for bidirectional fault current flow. The proposed setting method has been tested on many systems with different complexity and is proved effective.

  • The characteristics of heat transfer of the bimetal disc for over-current protection device is specified. Bimetal consists of two metals which have a different thermal expansion coefficient. To analyze the thermal characteristics, temperature distribution when bimetal acts as a switch is calculated. As usual, heat source is applied to the bimetal and electric current is heat source in the over-current protection switch. In this paper, thermal distribution are obtained by solving a coupled electro-thermal field with 3D finite element method.

  • This paper presents and analyses protection schemes for a series active compensator, which consists of a Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) or a hybrid active power filter. The proposed series active compensator operates as a high impedance "k(D)" for the fundamental components of the power frequency during over current conditions in the distribution system. Two control strategies are proposed in this paper. The first strategy detects the fundamental source current using the p-q theory. The second strategy detects the fundamental component of the load current in the Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF). When over currents occur in the power distribution system momentarily, the proposed schemes protect the series active compensator without the need for additional protection circuits, and achieves excellent transient response. The validity of the proposed protection schemes is investigated through simulation and compared with experimental results using a hybrid active power filter systems.

  • The measurement of electric current using optical techniques provides a number of important practical advantages including effective isolation from high line potentials and freedom from the saturation effects observed in conventional current transformers. In this work the optical current sensor which uses thin YIG(Yittrium Ion Garnet) film as a Faraday element has been developed. We have characterized this optical current sensor and implemented it to the OOCR(Opto-electronic OverCurrent Realy) Performance of the OOCR shows the possibility of replacing the present overcurrent relays with OOCR.

  • The current transformer is used for the insulation of measuring instrument, enlargement of measurement scope, standardization of measuring instrument, control of protective device. It's required various performance as the intention of service, site of establishment, insulation. especailly, current transformer has small ratio errors. if current transformer has large ratio error, it's caused a electricity failure. so in this paper, we examine the theory of current transformer, major factor of errors, output performance on over-current.

전철 지중배전선로의 충전전류보상에 관한 연구 (A Study of the Charging Current Effect on Underground Distribution Line in Electric Railway)

  • Because on the high-tension underground distribution line of an electric railway high voltage XLPE Cable two or three circuits between railway stations with a standard as receiving transformer facilities are established at a $30km{\sim}50km$ interval, reactive power in which the phase of a current is larger than that of a voltage is supplied when trains are not working, so when there are no loading or low loading as night. Due to the long-distance trend of the underground distribution system on an alternating current railway distribution line, the terminal voltage of a transformer is over the standard voltage, and after all, commercial cycle overvoltage is continued. To solve this problem, the shunt reactor is installed in middle of power distribution lines to maintain receiver voltage meted under the allowance regulation through control of the reactive power. Also, in case that the thickness of single cable is over $60mm^2$ and length of line is about over 30km, a circuit breaker is broken by shorting shunt ability of charging current in excess of shunt current(31.5A.rms). Therefore, this thesis presents installing the location of shunt reactor for quantitative analysis by using optimum algorism for compensation and control of the charging current.

  • 넓은 범위의 전압-제어 발진기 및 자동 이득 조절기의 실현을 위한 고선형 전압-제어 전류원(VCCS) 회로를 제안하였다. 제안한 VCCS는 전압 입력을 위해 이미터 폴로워, 전류 출력을 위해 이미터가 결합된 두 개의 공통-베이스 증폭기, 그리고 넓은 범위의 전류 출력과 높은 선형성을 얻기 위해 두 증폭기를 결합한 전류 미러로 구성된다. VCCS의 회로는 별도의 바이어스회로가 없이 단지 5개의 트랜지스터와 1개의 저항기만 사용하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 제안한 VCCS는 5V의 공급전압에서 1V에서 4.8V까지의 제어-전압에 대하여 최대 0A에서 300㎃까지의 전류를 출력할 수 있다. 0㎃에서 300㎃의 출력 전류의 최대 선형 오차는 1.4 %이였다.

수중타원형 천퇴상 불규칙파의 파랑쇄파류에 의한 변형 수치모의 (Numerical Simulation of Irregular Wave Transformation due to Wave-induced Current over a Submerged Elliptic Shoal)

  • 타원형 수중천퇴가 있는 지형을 통과하며 변형하는 파랑을 실험한 Vincent and Briggs(1989)의 불규칙파 실험조건을 수치모의하여 파랑과 흐름의 상호작용 효과를 연구하였다. 수치모의를 위해 SHORECIRC(흐름모형)와 REF/DIF S(파랑모형)를 결합한 모형과 파랑과 흐름을 동시에 계산하는 FUNWAVE를 이용하였다. 이 수치모의로부터 수중 천퇴상에서 발생된 쇄파류는 수중천퇴후면의 파 집중현상을 방해하고, 파랑을 천퇴중심축의 바깥쪽으로 굴절시켜, 파고를 상대적으로 감소시키는 역할을 하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 결합모형의 수치모의 결과는 쇄파류의 영향을 고려하지 않는 파랑모형만의 결과보다 실험치와 더 일치하였으며, FUNWAVE를 이용한 수치모의도 실험결과와 잘 일치하였다. 이는 파랑쇄파류의 파랑변형에 미치는 역할의 중요성을 확인시켜주는 것이다.

a-Si:H Photodiode Using Alumina Thin Film Barrier

  • A photodiode capable of obtaining a sufficient photo/ dark current ratio at both forward bias state and reverse bias state is proposed. The photodiode includes a glass substrate, an aluminum film formed as a lower electrode over the glass substrate, an alumina film formed as an insulator barrier over the aluminum film, a hydrogenated amorphous silicon film formed as a photo conduction layer over a portion of the alumina film, and a transparent conduction film formed as an upper electrode over the hydro-generated amorphous silicon film. A good quality alumina $(Al_2O_3)$ film is formed by oxidation of aluminum film using electrolyte solution of succinic acid. Alumina is used as a potential barrier between amorphous silicon and aluminum. It controls dark-current restriction. In case of photodiodes made by changing the formation condition of alumina, we can obtain a stable dark current $(\~10^{-12}A)$ in alumina thickness below $1000{\AA}$. At the reverse bias state of the negative voltage in ITO (Indium Tin Oxide), the photo current has substantially constant value of $5{\times}10^{-9}$ A at light scan of 100 1x. On the other hand, the photo/dark current ratios become higher at smaller thicknesses of the alumina film. Therefore, the alumina film is used as a thin insulator barrier, which is distinct from the conventional concept of forming the insulator barrier layer near the transparent conduction film. Also, the structure with the insulator thin barrier layer formed near the lower electrode, opposed to the ITO film, solves the interface problem of the ITO film because it provides an improved photo current/dark current ratio.

대전류 코일 전원 공급장치를 위한 12펄스 듀얼 컨버터의 전류제어 (Current Control of 12-pulse Dual Converter for High Current Coil Power Supply)

  • 토카막 장치의 초전도 코일에 사용되는 전원 공급장치는 초대형급(20kA) 직류 전원 공급기로서 빠른 전류제어 응답성과 매우 작은 정상상태 리플이 필수적이다. 특히 역전류 공급이 가능한 회생형 컨버터의 운전중 전류 방향이 바뀌는 순간에도 전류기준값을 잘 추종하는 것이 중요하다. 이러한 조건들을 만족시키기 위하여 입력측에 2중 출력($\Delta$, Y)를 갖는 변압기와 출력단에 상간변압기(interphase transformer, IPT)를 이용한 12펄스 싸이리스터 듀얼 컨버터를 설계, 제작하였다. 각 컨버터에서 출력되는 전류의 합이 부하전류 지령치를 따르도록 제어하는 동시에 차 전류의 평균값이 영이 되도록 함으로써 각 컨버터의 부하 분담율을 일정하게 하여 상간 변압기의 포화를 방지한다. 대전류 코일 전류 공급장치의 양방향 전류 제어 성능을 높이기 위하여 위상각 검출 및 게이팅 지연각 구현을 디지털화하고 컨버터 전류방향 정역절환시 초기 응답특성을 개선하는 방법을 제안하였다. 또한 시뮬레이션과 실부하 전류실험을 통해 제안된 제어기의 동작성능을 확인하였다.
