Because of the potential morbidity and complications associated with surgical procedures, limiting the extent of orthognathic surgery is a desire for many orthodontic patients. An eighteen-year-old woman had a severe Class III malocclusion and required bi-maxillary surgery. By changing the patient's maxillary occlusal plane using orthodontic mini-implants, she was able to avoid the maxillary surgery; requiring only a mandibular setback surgery. To accurately predict the post-surgery outcome, we applied a new soft tissue prediction method. We were able to follow and report the long-term result of her combined orthodontic and orthognathic treatment. The changes to her occlusal plane continue to appear stable over 6 years later.
The patient, 16 years female, complained of anterior cross-bite and retrusion of maxilla. Mandibular incisors occluded labially to maxillary incisors. Normally developed mandibular arch in normal elation to facial line, S-N-Pog was within normal range. Cross-bite of anterior teeth was corrected by means of Class III elastics under multibanded system. Space for alignment of crowding of upper anterior teeth was regained by means of cervical headgear and sliding yoke. She gained good alignment of anterior teeth and attractive facial profile after 2 years.
Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are rare subpopulations within tumors which are recognized as culprits in cancer recurrence, drug resistance and metastasis. However, the molecular mechanisms of how CSCs are regulated remain elusive. Kr$\ddot{u}$ppel-like factors (KLFs) are evolutionarily conserved zinc finger-containing transcription factors with diverse functions in cell differentiation, proliferation, embryogenesis and pluripotency. Recent progress has highlighted the significance of KLFs, especially KLF4, in cancer and CSCs. Therefore, for better therapeutics of cancer disease, it is crucial to develop a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of how KLF4 regulate CSC functions. Herein we summarized the current understanding of the transcriptional regulation of K LF4 in CSCs, and discussed the functional implications of targeting CSCs for potential cancer therapeutics.
Midface and maxillary distraction osteogenesis (DO) can be an alternative treatement modality for the craniofacial syndrome patients and cleft lip and palate patients. Rigid External Distraction (RED) II system has more advantages in the force vector control than the other types of distraction systems. Despite of increasing popularity of RED system there is few report on the failure factors. Some considerations should be pointed out in using RED II system for successful treatment; the rigidity of intraoral splint, complete separation of bony segment, and the cooperation of patients. Orthodontists, surgeons, and patients have the same amount of responsibility for the successful midface and maxillary DO using RED II system from the beginning to the end of the treatment.

We report the treatment of an adult Class II malocclusion with severe crowding and a hopeless lower second molar. According to the treatment plan, 4 premolars and 4 third molars were to be extracted for 2-jaw surgery. To replace the hopeless lower second molar, one upper third molar was successfully autotransplanted during the pre-surgical orthodontic treatment. Multiple teeth are frequently extracted for treatment purposes in adult surgical cases. Under precise diagnosis, the reuse of extracted teeth to replace missing teeth can be a successful alternative even in adult surgical patients.

The authors measured orthodontic force using the orthodontic materials of the Rocky Mountain Products Company. The results were as follows :
① Use latex of wide diameter in long distance, and when the latex of wide diameter activated by four or five times, we obtained a optimal force.
② The authors obtained canine retractions with sectional arch. Activation of sectional arch began at 1mm and had to do not activations of 3mm more.
③ The leveling started from .014 green round wire and finished to. 0.16" green Elgiloy round wire. Permit only a mild force in ideal arch form, in rectangular wire.
④ Fundamentaly, elastic thread obtained maximum force by activating as two times.
⑤ Coil spring obtained more heavy force from short distance than long distance.
The purpose of this study is to examine the initial reaction of craniofacial complex to the traction of headgears which are frequent used in dinical practice by using holographic interference method. Changes in the fringe pattern according to the traction conditions (outer bow length, load amount, direction) were compared. Human dry skull was used as experimental material, the results were as follows. 1. The density of fringes increased with an increase in load. 2. Maxillary headgear affected circummaxillary bones-temporal bone, zygomatic bone, nasal bone, frontal bone, sphenoid bone as well as maxilla. 3. The most upward-backward displacement was observed in a high pull head gear $(30^{\circ})$, this is though to be a optimal direction for supressing the growth of the maxilla.
The present study was performed to establish the cephalometric norms and to study characteristics of craniofacial skeleton of Korean male and female with normal occlusion. The author studied and analyzed statistically vertical cephalometric measurements of the 52 adult male ranging in age from 18 to 26 years and 43 adult female ranging in age from 16 to 30 years with normal occlusion and acceptable profile. The results were as follows; 1. Cephalometric craniofacial norms and standard deviation chart were abtained about adult Korean male and female with normal occlusion. 2. Vertical dimensions of the craniofacial skeleton were larger in male than in female. 3. Lower face was more divergent in female than in male. 4. In simple correlation coefficients between vertical linear mesurements in male and female, high correlation were shown between ATFH and ALFH, PTFH and PLFH, ALFH and ALDH, PLFH and PLDH.
The purpose of this stuy was to evaluated the cytotoxicity of brackets which were recycled thermally or chemically. New brackets and used brackets which had been in mouth for at least 2years were used as samples and human gingival cell culture and agar overlay technique was used to evaluate the cytotoxicity. From the experiment the following results were obtained : 1. New brackets in the as received state showed mild cytotoxicity. 2. Thermally recycled brackets except the used bracket not electropolished showed moderate cytotoxicity and among them new brackets showed greater cytotoxicity than used ones. 3. Used brackets which were thermally recycled without electropolishing showed mild cytotoxicity. 4. Among thermally recycled brackets, electropolished brackets showed greater cytotoxicity than not electro-polished ones. 5. Chemically recycled brackets showed moderate cytotoxicity, and among them, new brackets appeared to be more cytotoxic than used ones.
This investigation was carried out in order to find out changes in head postures and in craniofacial morphology, in relation to the inclination of cervical column. For this study 85 subjects, consisting 39 males and 49 females, between the ages of 7 to 24 years old were chosen, and following results were observed after analysing the correlation coefficients between each structures. 1. No definite relationships were observed between the inclination of cervical column (CVT/HOR) and the inclination of anterior cranial base (SN/VER) 2. No definite relationships were observed between the inclination of mandibular ramus (RL/HOR) and the inclination of mandibular inclination (MLP/VER). 3. In subjects with anteriorly inclined cervical column, increase in mandibular plane inclinations (ML/VER) were observed. 4. No definite relationships were observed between the inclination of cervical column (CVT/HOR) and changes in palatal plane (NL/VER).
