Epidermal growth factor(EGF), a single chain polypeptide of 53 amino acids with a molecular weight of 6,045 Da, was first isolated from the male mouse submandibular glands. EGF stimulates cellular proliferation and differentiation in several tissues and accelerates the rate of wound healing. EGF is bound to the specific receptor(EGFR) on the cell membrane of its target cell. EGFR is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 170,000 Da and is detectable on a large variety of cell types and tissues. The authors investigated the expression of EGFR in the normal and inflamed human gingival epithelium to study the role of EGFR in the inflammation of the gingival epithelium, and the expression of EGFR in the dental follicle by using in situ mRNA hybridization and immunohistochenistry. The results weree as follows : 1. The expression of EGFR mRNA in the normal gingival epithelium on in situ mRNA hybridization was mainly localized on the basal cell layer, and the spinous layer was weakly positive The granular and cornified layers were negative 2. The expression of EGFR protein in the normal gingival epithelium on inmunohistochemistry was localized on the cornified and granular layers, and the spinous layer was weakly positive. The basal cell layer was completely negative 3. The expression of EGFR mRNA in the inflamed gingival epithelium on in situ mRNA hybridization was evenly and homogeneously distributed in the whole layers of the gingival epithelium except the cornified layer. The staining intensity appeared to increase progressively from the basal cell layer to the cornified layer. 4. The expression of EGFR protein in the inflamed gingival epithelium on immunohistochemistry was evenly and homogeneously distributed in the whole layers of the gingival epithelium. The staining intensity appeared to increase progressively from the cornified layer to the basal cell layer. 5. Strong positive reaction was seen in the epithelial cell rests of Malassez, whereas only background staining was seen in other cells of the dental follicle. In conclusion, the up-regulation of EGFR in the inflamed gingival epithelium and the high amounts of EGFR in the epthelial cell rests of Malassez in the dental follicle can be regarded as responses to the possible damages to the oral environment to maintain the homeostatic conditions.
Objective: The present study was aimed at an analytical formulation of the micro-implant related torque as a function of implant size, i.e. the diameter and length, screw size, and the bony resistance at the implant to bone interface. Methods: The resistance at the implant to cancellous bone interface $(S_{can})$ was assumed to be in the range of 1.0-2.5 MPa. Micro-implant model of Absoanchor (Dentos Inc. Daegu, Korea) was used in the course of the analysis. Results: The results showed that the torque was a strong function of diameter, length, and the screw height. As the diameter increased and as the screw size decreased, the torque index decreased. However the strength index was a different function of the implant and bone factors. The whole Absoanchor implant models were within the safe region when the resistance at the implant/cancellous bone $(=S_{can})$ was 1.0 or less. Conclusion: For bone with $S_{can}$ of 1.5 MPa, the cervical diameter should be greater than 1.5 mm if micro-implant models of 12 mm long are to be placed. For $S_{can}$ of 2.0 MPa, micro-implant models of larger cervical diameter than 1.5 mm were found to be safe only if the endosseous length was less than 8 mm.
The purpose of this study was to find out and evaluate discrepancies between preorthodontic prediction values and actual postorthodontic values and factors contributing to it in 45 patients(17 male, 28 female) who were diagnosed as skeletal Class III ma)occlusion and received presurgical orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery at Yonsei university dental hospital. Lateral cephalograms were analysed at pretreatment(T1), orthodontic Prediction(T2), immediately before surgery(T3) and designated the landmark as coordinates or X and Y axes. The samples were divided according to ALD, upper and lower incisor inclination(Ul to SN, IMPA), COS, extraction, the position of extracted teeth and the statistical significance was tested to find out the factors contributing to the prediction. The results were as follows: 1. Differences between preorthodontic prediction values and actual postorthodontic values(T2-T3) were statistically significant(p<0.05) in the x coordinates of U6mbc, L1x and in y coordinates of U1i, U1x, U6me, U6mbc, L6mbc 2. The accuracy of prediction is relatively higher in horizontal changes compared to vortical changes. 3. The statistical significance(p<0.05) between prediction and actual values is observed more in the landmarks of the maxilla than the mandible. 4. Differences between prediction and actual values of incisor and first molar were statistically significant(p<0.05) according to extraction vs non-extraction, extraction type, ALD in the maxilla and according to ALD, IMPA in the mandible. Discrepancies between preorthodontic prediction values and actual postorthodontic values and factors contributing to the prediction must be considered in treatment planning of Cl III surgical patients to increase the accuracy of prediction. Furthermore future investigations are needed on the prediction of vortical changes.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibile clinical application of electroplating to increase diameter of an orthodontic wire, through examining the change of physical properties. The diameter of stainless steel orthodontic wire was increased from 0.016 inch to 0.018 inch by electroplating in a bath of nickel sulfate 100g/L, nickel chloride 60g/L, boric acid 30g/L, and sodium chloride 50g/L, under the conditions of 1.7V, $25\~29^{\circ}C\;and\;3.1\~3.3pH$. During the electroplating, the rate of diameter increase was measured every minute. To investigate uniformity, the diameter was measured at three different locations of each wire specimen aster electroplating. An X-ray diffraction test was performed to analyze the nature of the electroplated metal. Following heat treatment to improve adhesion between the wire and electroplated metal, a three-point bending test was conducted to compare stiffness, field strength, and ultimate strength among four wire groups; 0.016 inch, electroplated 016, electroplated and heat-treated 016, and 0.018 inch wires. Through the comparison of each wire group, following results were obtained. 1. In the load-deflection graph, the curve of the electroplated group was Placed between that of the 0.016 inch group and the 0.018 inch group, and the owe was closer to the 0.018 inch group by heat treatment. 2. In the electroplated and heat-treated 016 wire group, the values of stiffness, yield strength and ultimate strength showed higher tendency than in the original 0.016 Inch group. Stiffness and ultimate strength showed statistically significant differences between two groups. 3. Stiffness, yield strength, and ultimate strength of electroplated wire presented lower values than those of 0.018 inch wire group. 4. Stiffness, yield strength, and ultimate strength of electroplated and heat-treated wire showed higher tendency than those of electroplated wire group, and ultimate strength showed statistically significant difference between two groups. 5. After electroplating, the difference in diameter between the three locations was within $0.1\~0.3\%$ variation, and showed no statistical significance.
This study was performed to investigate the effect of immediate orthodontic force on soft md hard tissues surrounding C-Palatal $Plate^{TM}$ in beagle Dog. Immediately after this appliance was implanted on the midpalate of 4 adult beagle Dogs, 400gm continuous orthodontic force was applied. Experimental animals were euthanized at 8weeks, 18weeks, and 22weeks (including post-removal healing time of 4weeks), and a control animal was euthanized at 8weeks after implantation without orthodontic force application. The appliance and the surrounding tissue were studied radiographically, macroscopically, and histologically. The results were as follows: 1. The lateral radiographs taken after euthanasia showed very slight displacement of the vortical plate in the experimental animals, compared with the control animal. Mobility test of all animals confirmed primary stability without any increase of mobility during experimental period. 2. No pathologic changes were found in the healing condition of covering soft tissue and bone-screw interface in experimental animals as well as a control animal. 3. Osseointegration was achieved in the bone-screw interface in 8weeks after implantation and the amount of osseointegration increased in 18weeks. There was little difference of osseointegration between the compression side and the tension side. 4. In the marginal bone area, slight bone apposition and resorption were found regardless of compression and tension side, while there was no change in the control animal. 5. Both 8week-animal and 18week-animal showed the new bone apposition along the surface of screws which were perforated into the nasal cavity, while the control animal showed no change. 6. After 4weeks of plate removal, the covering epithelium was repaired intactly, while the connective tissue showed loose and irregular rearrangement and the connective tissue capsule remained. The C-Palatal $Plate^{TM}$ manifested sufficient anchorage capacity in the context of histological study as well as clinical outcomes, when immediate orthodontic force was applied after implantation.
This study was designed to evaluate the frequency and the severity of root resorption of the permanent teeth before orthodontic treatment by means of radiograph in the malocclusion patients. In this study the author analysed the frequency and the severity of root resorption in individual teeth, the relationships of the frequency and the severity of root resorption and age, sex, Angle's classification, overjet, overbite, and maxillary and mandibular incisor inclination, and the relationships of the frequency of root resorption and the characteristics of malocclusion and marked occlusal attrition showed in individual teeth. The results were as follows. 1. All of the persons examined showed some evidence of root resorption in one or more of the permanent teeth, $35.84\%$ of the teeth examined and more frequent in female group than male group(p<0.01). 2. On the susceptibility of the root resorption in individual teeth in this study, the author found the mandibular incisors and the maxillary incisors, in the order named, to be most susceptible in all affected teeth, but maxillary central incisors, maxillary first bicuspids, and maxillary lateral incisors, in the order named, were more susceptible to marked root resolution. 3. The more proclined maxillary Incisors the more affected root resorption in four maxillary incisors and the more proclined mandibular incisors the more affected root resorption in four mandibular incisors. 4. Overbite more affected root resorption than overjet, and the higher tender to openbite the more frequent was root resorption. 5. On the characteristics of malocclusion showed in individual teeth, the openbite teeth combined with crossbite, were most frequent in root resolution.
Treatment mechanics should be individualized to be suitable for each patient's personal teeth and anatomic environment to get a best treatment result with the least harmful effects to teeth and surrounding tissues. Especially, the change of biomechanical reaction associated with that of the centers of resistance of teeth should be considered when crown-to-root ratio changed due to problematic root resorption and/or periodontal disease during adult orthodontic treatment. At the present study, in order to investigate patterns of initial displacements of anterior teeth under certain orthodontic force when crown-to-root ratio changed in not only normal periodontal condition but also abnormal periodontal and/or teeth condition, the changes of the centers of resistance for maxillary and mandibular 6 anterior teeth as a segment were studied using the laser reflection technique, the lever & pulley force applicator and the photodetector with these quantified variables reducing alveolar bone 2mm by 2mm for each of maxillary 6 anterior teeth until the total amount of 8mm and root 2mm by 2mm for each of mandibular 6 anterior ones until the total amount of 6mm. The results were as follows: 1. Under unreduced condition, the center of resistance during initial displacement of maxillary 6 anterior teeth was located at the point of about $42.4\%$ apically from cemento-enamel junction(CEJ) of the averaged tooth of them and kept shifting to about $76.7\%$ with alveolar bone reduction. 2. The distance from the averaged alveolar crest level of maxillary 6 anterior teeth to the center of resistance for the averaged tooth of them kept decreasing with alveolar bone reduction, but the ratio to length of the averaged root embedded in the alveolar bone was stable at around $33\%$ regardless of that. 3. Under unreduced condition, the center of resistance during initial displacement of mandibular 6 anterior teeth was located at the Point of about $43\%$ apically from CEJ of the averaged tooth of them and this ratio kept increasing to about $54\%$ with root reduction. But the distance from CEJ to the center of resistance decreased from around 5.3mm to around 3.3mm, that is to say, the center of resistance kept shifting toward CEJ with the shortening of root length. 4. A unit reduction of alveolar bone had greater effects on the change of the centers of resistance than that of root did during initial Phase of each reduction. But both of them had similar effects at the middle region of whole length of the averaged root.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of fluoride releasing orthodontic sealants, light-cured (Group L1&L2) and self-cured (Group S1&S2) $FluoroBond^{\circledR}$, on enamel microhardness under artificial carious solution in vitro.112 extracted human premolar teeth were collected for experiments and divided into seven groups. A Tukon microhardness tester equipped with a Knoop diamond indenter was employed to determine microhardness. Tukon 23 program converted the number of microhardness into KHN (Knoop hardness number). The results were as follows: 1. The microhardness of enamel depth of all groups were the least at the depth of $50{\mu}m$ and that of all groups except L2 group, the greatest at the depth of $200{\mu}m$, were the greatest at the depth of $300{\mu}m$. And as the enamel depth of all groups except L2 and S2 group increased, the microhardness value also increased. 2. There was a little preventive effect in enamel decalcification both light-and self-cured orthodontic sealant groups, but had no statistical significance between the groups(p>0.05). 3. Light-cured orthodontic sealant groups had a progressive inhibiting effect in enamel decalcification at the depth of $100{\mu}m,150{\mu}m,\;and\;200{\mu}m$ (p<0.05). 4. Self-cured orthodontic sealant groups had a progressive inhibiting effect in enamel decalcification at the depth of $150{\mu}m$ (p<0.05). 5. There was no difference of the anti-enamel demineralization effect between light- and self-cured orthodontic sealant groups (p>0.05).
The purpose of this study was to compare the bracket shear bond strengths of the crystal growth solutions with those of the $37\%$ phosphric acid etch technique. The 4 crystal growth solutions were made experimentally in the lab, that is, (1) $30\%$ polyacrylic acid solution containing 0.3 M sulfuric acid (ES 1), (2) $30\%$ polyacrylic acid solution containing 0.6M sulfuric acid (ES 2), (3) $30\%$ polyacrylic acid solution containing 0.3 M sulfuric acid and 0.6 M lithium sulfate(ES 3), and (4) $30\%$ polyacrlic acid solution containing 0.3 M sulfuric acid and $5\%$ phosphoric acid(ES4). The $37\%$ phosphoric acid solution used as a control. Bovine lower incisor tooth enamel was treated by the above solutions for 60 sec, washed out for 20 sec with slow water stream, and bonded lower anterior edgewise bracket with the light curing orthodontic composite resin adhesives. The teeth bonded brackets were stored in the distilled water at room temperature for 24 h, and followed to test the bracket shear bond strength. The acid etch technque showed 177.6 kg/$cm^2$ of mean shear bond strength which was the highest among the enamel treatment solutions. ES 1 shown 58.4 kg/$cm^2$ of mean shear bond strength and that of ES 4 showed 66.5 kg/$cm^2$. There was no significant difference between the two(p>0.05). ES2 showed 110.6kg/$cm^2$ of mean shear bond strength which was $62.3\%$ of that of acid etch technique. ES 3 showed 131.1 kg/$cm^2$ of mean shear bond strength which was the highest among experimental crystal growth solutions and which was $74\%$ of that of acid etch technique. The shear bond strengths of the crystal growth solutions were significantly lower that that of acid etch technique(p<0.05). The results sugest that although bracket shear bond strength of $30\%$ polyacrylic acid solution containing 0.3M sulfuric acid and 0.6 M lithium sulfate were showed the highest, it is low for the clinical application of this solution.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the availability of computer system for the measurement of tooth size in the model analysis through the comparison of two measurements: One was to use a computer; and the other was to use vernier calipers. Twenty sets of casts were used, which showed a moderate degree of crowding and full eruption of all teeth. The mesio-distal width of 12 teeth from the left central incisor to the left first molar at each set of the casts were measured twice with vernier calipers and a computer respectively. This measurement was repeated two weeks later. First, for the reproducibility analysis, the two computer measurements were compared then the vernier calipers measurements were compared. Second, all the teeth were sepapated into the region of mesiodistal contact points and its width was measured by a micrometer to obtain standard measurements. For the accuracy analysis, these standard measurements were compared with the measurements from the dental casts using two methods. The difference between them was defined as the measurement error. To investigate the cause of measurement error, an examination was made for the presence and degree of contact point deviation on each tooth from the upper and lower occlusograms, and the mesio-distal angulation of each tooth was measured with TARG. Following results were obtained through statistical analysis. 1. In the analysis for reproducibility; the measurements with vernier calipers showed significant differences in three out of twelve teeth while the computer measurements showed significant differences in one out of twelve teeth. 2. In the analysis for accuracy; compared with the standard measurements, the measurements with vernier calipers showed significant differences in three out of twelve teeth while the computer measurements showed significant differences in two out of twelve teeth. 3. Compared with the standard measurements, the measurements with vernier calipers were apt to be larger at the upper first molar, and smaller at the lower first molar The computer measurements, however, were apt to be larger at both upper and lower first molars. 4. The measurements with vernier calipers showed the largest error at the lower first molar and the degree of error was variable according to the tooth while the difference of error was small in the computer measurements. 5. In the analysis for the correlation of the degree of measurement errors with the contact point deviation index and the mesio-distal crown angulation of each tooth, the measurements with vernier calipers did not show significant correlation while the measurements with computer showed slight Positive correlations. The results of this study indicate that a computer system may be useful for the measurement of tooth size in the model analysis.

제 6 장 손해배상 및 기타사항
제 18 조 (손해배상)
당 사이트는 무료로 제공되는 서비스와 관련하여 회원에게 어떠한 손해가 발생하더라도 당 사이트가 고의 또는 과실로 인한 손해발생을 제외하고는 이에 대하여 책임을 부담하지 아니합니다.
제 19 조 (관할 법원)
서비스 이용으로 발생한 분쟁에 대해 소송이 제기되는 경우 민사 소송법상의 관할 법원에 제기합니다.

1. (시행일) 이 약관은 2016년 9월 5일부터 적용되며, 종전 약관은 본 약관으로 대체되며, 개정된 약관의 적용일 이전 가입자도 개정된 약관의 적용을 받습니다.
