Backgrounds: Intracerebral hemon-hage is one of the most devastating types of stroke. Ginseng radix, the root of Panax Ginseng, C. A. MEYER (Araliaceae), is one of the most famous medicinal herbs with various therapeutic applications. Objectives: In the present study, the effect of aqueous extract of Ginseng radix on intracerebral hemorrhage-induced neuronal cell death in rats was investigated. Materials and Methods: Step-down avoidance task, Nissl staining, immunohistochemistry for caspase-3 and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay were used for this study. Results: The present results show that hemorrhage-induced lesion volume and apoptotic neuronal cell death in the striatum were significantly suppressed by treatment with Ginseng radix, resulting in enhancement of short-ten-n memory. Conclusions: We have shown that Ginseng radix has a neuroprotective effect on stroke, and aids the recovery from central nervous system sequelae following stroke.

Objective : This study was conducted to offer basic materials for the clinical study of Chi acupuncture (carboxytherapy). Methods : Recent clinical studies were reviewed for carboxytherapy (carbon dioxide therapy) and the ancient and present texts were reviewed for Chi acupuncture. Results and Conclusions : Chi acupuncture is oriental medical therapeutic treatment using carboxytherapy. Chi acupuncture refers to the transcutaneous administration of CO2 gas for therapeutical purposes relating to obesity, cellulites, local circulation and skin irregularity. Recent studies have demonstrated the effects of this therapy on adipose tissue by showing vasomotor effects, increasing local circulation and inducing a partial increase in tcPO2. Chi acupuncture influences the microcirculation and likely has a positive effect upon the physiological oxidative lipolytic process.

Velvet antlers from Cervus elaphus species are one of most famous, expensive and commonly used medicinal materials in traditional oriental medicine. Some distributor had illegal practice of disguising the origin of antlers in Korea market. Therefore, a test to distinguish antler essential to ensure the healthy development of the herbal industry. In this study, the variation in DNA sequences of the mitochondrial ATPase8 and cytochrome-coxidaseI (COI) genes of Cervus elaphus from China, the Republic of Altai, and Canada were evaluated. In addition, the sequence variation among, Rein deer and Cervus elaphus species was also evaluated. Although the sequences of deer from the Republic of Altai and Canada were very similar, polymorphisms that were conserved in each species were observed in the ATPase8 and COI genes. Therefore, these polymorphic markers could be used to distinguish Cervus elaphus antlers from different locations.

This study was peformed to provide basic ideas as understanding and application for oriental medicinal cuisine (Yak-Sun). We investigated background, history of Yak-Sun in China. Also we conducted to investigated how to apply the theories of oriental medicine appropriately, which direction should be taken, and how it should be developed. To develop medicinal cuisine, it is necessary to grasp the theoretical system. And to develop medicinal cuisine for health enhancement, it is also required not only to consider constitutions but also to suggest the need of knowledge for moderation in terms of regimen along with the theory of oriental medicine. Also to develop medicinal cuisine according to the perspective of oriental medicinal theory, what should be taken into account is not only the understanding of the characteristics of food materials, but also the properties of them that the theory of oriental medicine. Lastly the scientific effect of the medicinal cuisine which is developed according to the oriental medicinal theory. And it is believed to be essential for the government to make effects to set a standard and laws to validate the medicinal effects and the process of assessment so that the systematic development can be encouraged, and to prepare guidance to food development for national health improvement.

The treatment of Atopic dermatitis and its untapped herbal elements are recognized as possible solutions to incurable diseases stemming from overdosage of chemical drugs. Synthesizing clinical results from the Oriental medicine with scientific results from the field of Molecular biology is in the mainstream. The main goal of this research is, by objectifying the methodology of abstracting information into a compendium, to establish knowledge-based database on natural materials mingling every single related information from both Oriental and Western medicine. The constructed system, ATODERM, is the first database system about the medical herb for the treatment of Atopic Dermatitis which bearing the integrated information on Oriental medicine and Western medicine. The construction of this database renders new ways of treatment and prescriptions for researchers in the field of the Oriental medicine. Using the database that has been intensively accumulated, the possibility of creating the plausible cure for the disease can be anticipated.

1. Objective : Researching the satisfaction on constitutional health care and studying an influential factor on the satisfaction to make use of basic materials for consitutional health care model. 2. Methods : We sent the questionnaire to 102 extended family members who received constitutional health care in oriental medicine institute. Collected 70 data analysis was statistically proceeded by SPSS. 3. Results : The rate of satisfaction on consitutional health care was 87% which was relatively high in comparison with other health care programs. Oriental clinic showed the highest in rate and then oriental hospital and institute were followed. 4. Conclusion This study showed that satisfaction on consitutional health care was high and the health care program was positive in improving health. Developing guide on health care by constitution and building up clinical data on the degree of health improvement influenced by health care program.

Halophyte is a plant that has evolved to grow well in salty places, and is mainly distributed in coastal wetlands, sand dunes, salt fields, and reclaimed lands in tidal flats and river estuaries. Because it grows in the soil where seawater enters and exits, it is very abound in natural minerals and produces certain metabolites to survive sustainably in the surrounding environment. In this study, anti-inflammatory studies were conducted using 15 kinds of halophyte to secure data on halophytes of infinite value as functional materials. The aim of this study was to select a group of halophytes that regulate iNOS expression, which is involved in the secretion of inflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide production in LPS-induced macrophages. Among the 15 species of halophyte, except for Triglochin maritimum, Suaeda japonica, and Carex pumila, NO production was reduced in 12 species of halophytes, and 7 species of halophyte (Suaeda asparagoides, Artemisia fukudo, Spergularia marina, Aster tripolium, Suaeda australis, Atriplex subcordata, Calystegia soldanella) significantly decreased the expression levels of TNF-α and IL-1β.

This study is to propose the minimalism, which swept the modern society of the 20th century, in fashion illustration with an asymmetric composition adding the globalized oriental taste in the 21th century. To do this, this study reviews various literatures and real materials reflecting the minimalism in art, architecture and fashion, defines aesthetic characteristics of the minimalism in each area, then based on the results, creates a basic unit of a fashion illustration and finally bring 6 works of the unit together to an integral fashion illustration while adding several oriental features.
