Spatial Changes in the Business Organization of Retailing in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (首都圈地域 小賣業 經營의 空間的 變容)

  • This paper aims at examining the regional difference of changes in the business organization of retailing in the Seoul metropolitan areas, as an attempt to understand regional structure of retailing within metropolitan areas showing the trend of suburbanization. On the national level, retail sales have concentrated on the large metropolitan areas, especially on the Seoul metropolitan area, with the concentration of population and income. Within metropolitan areas, the suburbanization of retailing has made the larger structure of retail and multi-store retail appeared. In order to confirm such phenomenon, this paper is to analyze and to compare the industrial composition of retailing using industry data of 1979 and 1991. And this paper is to analyze the regional changes in the characteristics of business organization of retailing, with the index including the percentages of establishments with less than under four employees, juridical establishments, employees of ordinary times, and the annual sales per establishment of detailing. The characteristics of business organization of retailing in analyzed by principal components analysis, and the types with component in each district (city, county, ward) is analyzed by cluster analysis(Ward method). The data of 1979 were obtained from the statistics in the Census of Wholesale and Retail Trade published by the National Bureau of Statistics of Economic Planning Board, and that of 1991 were obtained from the statistics in the Report on Establishment Census (Vol.3 Wholesale and Retail Trade) published by the National Statistics Office. The following are resultant findings. 1. In Seoul metropolitan area, changes in the industrial composition of retailing with annual sales from, 1979 to 1991 show very higher composition rates of 'general merchandise stores' and 'retailing of personal transport equipment and gasoline service stations', but comparatively lower composition rates of 'retailing of food, beverages and tobacco', 'retailing of textiles, clothing, footwear and apparel accessaries', 'general retail trade, n.e.c.',and 'retailing of household fuel'. 2. The characteristics of business organization of retailing in Seoul metropolitan area presents the prevailence of small, personal business organization and especially larger employees of ordinary times. 3. Business components of retailing by principal components analysis in Seoul metropolitan area are follows: 1 All retaining industries are larger business scale. 2. Larger business take the 'retailing of taxtiles, clothing, footwear and apparel accessories', 'retailing of furniture, home furnishing and equipment', and 'retailing of jewellery and watches' is main characteristic legal organization and employees of ordinary times. 4. Types changes in business organization of retailing in Seoul metropolitan area represent legal organization and employees of ordinary times taking the 'retailing of textiles, clothing, footwear and apparel accessories', 'retailing of furniture, home furnishing and equipment',and 'retailing of jewellery and equipment', and 'retailing of jewellery and watches', and legal organization taking 'general retail trade, n.e.c.' in 1979. All retailing industries are changed into larger business scale, in 1991. These phenomena of business changes appeared southeastern regions in Kyunggi-do(province). And larger business scale taking the 'retailing of textiles, clothing, footwear and apparel accessories', 'retailing of jewellery and watches', and 'general retail trade, n.e.c.; are appeared in the legal organization in 1979. 'Retailing of personal transport equipment and gasoline service stations' are appeared in employees of ordinary times in 1991. These phenomena of business changes in appeared in eastern and northern regions in Kyunggi-do. 5. Changes in the business organization of retailing in Seoul metropolitan area is appeared in legal organization and employees of ordinary times for some industries in 1979, larger business scale of retailing and employees of ordinary times in 'retailing of personal transport equipment and gasoline service stations' are the characteristics in 1991.

  • This paper analyzes the intra-organizational characteristics of the Japanese firm, Kaisha. We want to know how they have been related to the successful story of the Japanese economy, especially to their capability to make a rapid technological breakthrough during the past half century. Intra-firm characteristics will be dealt with from four different but mutually interrelated aspects, which include production organization at the workshop level, incentive system, labor-management relations, and corporate governance.   • Culture is that the system of shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, and artifacts that the members of society use to cope with their world and with one another, and that are transmitted from generation to generation through learning. Members of an organization are affected by culture. And dissensions in an organization give negative effects to behavior of the members, especially to satisfaction from organization. This study is on the dissension management by considering of cultural characteristics of pilots. Cultural characteristics of pilots were surveyed and analyzed with the V5M94(values survey module94) which was developed by Hofstede. As results, the cultural indexes of the pilots were different from the national means. The indexes presented that korean pilots' cultural characteristics are low POI, high IDV, low MAS and low UAI as North European cultural characteristics. For managing the pilots group, make expansion of opportunity to take part in decision making, release or share of informations are required. And motivations, delegation, free from unnecessary interventions, understanding and forgiveness rather than disciplinary punishment, thoughtful considerations could be effectiveness. And for developing more effective management methods, management strategies of north european airlines should be studied.

  • This study conducted a survey on 414 industrial organization food service workers in the Kyungnam area to find out the effect relationship of the job characteristics of organization food service workers and its effects on job commitment and job satisfaction by recognizing the need for job application through the job characteristic model, which was the beginning of the intrinsic motivation theory for the job of organization food service workers. To accomplish the purpose of this study, the method to analyze the survey was undertaken by using the SPSS 23.0 and Amos 21.0 statistic package program via a data coding process for collected data processing. We can confirm from the analysis results that there is a statistically significant causal relationship in all factors, except task identity, which is a sub factor of job characteristic. This result reaffirms the results of previous research by showing that the worker must be allowed to ensure completion of the entire job when performing the job as the job itself is not one part of the processes. Decision-making autonomy must be given in the work process when the worker performs their job in order to raise job satisfaction and furthermore to increase job commitment. The limitation of this study is that there are limits that making generalization as the study was conducted on industrial organization food service workers in the Kyungnam area as extracted samples.

  • A new system for automatic scoring of 'organization' of the EEG dominant rhythm was constructed and applied to 18 normal subjects and 15 patients. Organization parameters which best represented the 'organization' as judged by 5 neurologists' visual inspection were calculated and the automatic organization scoring was obtained by a linear regression of those organization parameters. Furthermore, values of the regression coefficients were used to study the characteristics of EEG interpretation by each neurologist, and this scoring technique can also be applied to the training of EEG interpretation.

  • Recently, knowledge management(KM) has attracted increasing attention from academicians and practitioners alike. Amongst others, technological knowledge(TK) is considered principal asset of KM and R,&D organization of private firms selves as primary actor of KM. It is also noted that the notion of sectoral pattern of innovation highlights idiosyncratic differences across industrial sectors in terms of TK management. That is, knowledge contents, knowledge generation and How pattern are considerably different among industries. This paper first analyzes the correlation between structural of R&D organization and industrial(sectoral) type to identify the dominant structure of R&D organization for each industry. Second, sector-specific architectures of TK management system are proposed. According to structural characteristic of R&D-organization type, test-practice forms of TK management system are suggested in terms of such factors as knowledge contents(technology information), knowledge generation activities, and knowledge storage/retrieval modes.

A Study on the Analysis of the Power Distance Tendency of Firefighters

  • This study identified the power distance tendency of firefighters. Power distance propensity is one of the important organizational and cultural factors that influence the development of the organization. There is a big difference in the attitude of the members of the organization to perform their work according to the tendency of the distance of power. As a result of the main study, the overall level of power distance propensity of the subjects was 2.55 points on average. In particular, there was a significant difference in the propensity of power distance according to class (p<0.05). In the future, it is necessary to study the effect of job characteristics according to the rank of firefighters on the propensity to distance power. It is expected to form a positive organizational culture of the firefighting organization by utilizing the power distance tendency of the members of the organization.
