  • This study confirms that the regression model of endpoint of interval outputs is not identical with that of the other endpoint of interval outputs in interval regression models proposed by Tanaka et al. (1987) and constructs interval regression models using the best regression model given by variable selection. Also, this paper suggests a method to minimize the sum of lengths of a symmetric difference among observed and predicted interval outputs in order to estimate interval regression coefficients in the proposed model. Some examples show that the interval regression model proposed in this study is more accuracy than that introduced by Inuiguchi et al. (2001).

  • The purpose of this paper is to design high-order (or radial) surface gradient coil (SGC), which can provide multi-dimensional spatial selection. Although the spatial Selection with High-Order gradienT (SHOT) can provide a 2-D selection with only one selective RF pulse, the high-order gradient pro- duced by conventional cylindrical-shape coils has not been clinically useful due to the large selection size caused by the limited radial gradient intensity. However, by using the proposed high-order SGCs located near the imaging region, the size of volume selection can be reduced to a clinically useflll size of 1-2 cm in diameter by applying stronger radial gradient field with much less gradient driving power. So far radial SGCs have been designed by using the field component method and may cause distortion in the selection shapes. In this paper, by using the target field approach for the coil design, selected volumes became almost circular. A 40 cm-by-40 cm $z^2$_surface gradient coil has been designed and implemented by using the target field approach. Phantom and volunteer studies have been performed Experimental results using spatially localized MRI show good agreement to the theoretically predicted behavior.

  • It is necessary for developing countries to increase their consolidation of domestic technology in order to improve their economy. In order to raise their techniques, they have to try to induce the advanced know-how from other countries in spite of heavy cost. The object of this study is to establish the model on which we base our choice of the proper techniques or plants and give priority to them by using quantified selection criteria. The method in this study has two stages, and the writer has selected 12 factors affecting the decision making for the importation of technology from the industrially advanced countries. First, the lists of valuable know-how for the better development of national industry should be determined, and for the formulation and arrangement of the lists, a council of specialists which uses questionnaires in terms of the Semantic Differential Method, should be organized. Second, for the assignments of priority to the prospective items for importation, the writer has imployed both the Leontief Model and the Disman Model as objective methods and Mottley-Newton method, one of the R&D Project Selection Methods, as a general model. The writer has applied the methods described above to the fields of petrochemical industry in Korea.

  • In this paper, we propose an access point selection method for mobile users in LTE-femtocell system. In wireless communication system, users want to receive good data service. In LTE-femtocell system, if users move a little, users can experience different data service. The proposed access point selection method help that if users move a little, users obtain the high capacity and that user selects access point that other user have not selected much and so obtains higher data service. We simulated in order to prove performance of the proposed access point selection metod. Simulation results show that in a situation that users are concentrated in order to obtain better data service users are seen scattered look. As a result, we confirm that the proposed access point selection method provides good data service to users.

  • When there are numerous wireless communication systems co-existing in the limited available frequency resource, an unexpected time delay can be caused during the system switching. So, in order to reduce this time delay, a mode selection method is required. In this paper, we propose a mode selection method to minimize the time delay for multi-system wireless communication systems. For the sake of efficiency, the mode selection method is designed by analyzing the preamble characteristics of different standards. Instead of performing a full search, we propose the preamble partial search to reduce the time delay to a minimum. Simulated with Matlab in an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) environment with a signal to noise ratio(SNR) of 10dB and bit error rate(BER) of $10^{-6}$, we evaluated and showed the performance improvement gained by using our proposed mode selection method.

  • Despite the overall success of neighbor-based CF methods, there are some fundamental questions about neighbor selection and prediction mechanism including arbitrary similarity, over-fitting interpolation weights, no trust consideration between neighbours, etc. This paper proposes a simple method to compute absolute interpolation weights based on similarity values. In order to supplement the method, two schemes are additionally devised for high-quality neighbour selection and trust metrics based on co-ratings. The former requires that one or more neighbour's similarity should be better than a pre-specified level which is higher than the minimum level. The latter gives higher trust to neighbours that have more co-ratings. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the pure IBCF by about 8% improvement. Furthermore, it can be easily combined with other predictors for achieving better prediction quality.

  • The performance of an intelligent classifier for detecting malwares added to multimedia contents based on machine learning is highly dependent on the properties of feature set. Especially, in order to determine the malicious code in real time the size of feature set should be as short as possible without reducing the accuracy. In this paper, we introduce an optimal feature selection method to satisfy both high detection rate and the minimum length of feature set against the feature set provided by PEFeatureExtractor well known as a feature extraction tool. For the evaluation of the proposed method, we perform the experiments using Windows Portable Executables 32bits.

  • Fixed robust routing is attracting attention as routing that achieves high robustness against changes in traffic patterns without conducting traffic measurement and performing dynamic route changes. Fixed robust routing minimizes the worst-case maximum link load by distributing traffic of every source-destination (s-d) router pair onto multiple candidate paths (multipath routing). Multipath routing, however, can result in performance degradation of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) because of frequent out-of-order packet arrivals. In this paper, we first investigate the influence of multipath routing on TCP performance under fixed robust routing with a simulation using ns-2. The simulation results clarify that TCP throughput greatly degrades with multipath routing. We next propose a candidate path selection method to improve TCP throughput while suppressing the worst-case maximum link load to less than the allowed level under fixed robust routing. The method selects a single candidate path for each of a predetermined ratio of s-d router pairs in order to avoid TCP performance degradation, and it selects multiple candidate paths for each of the other router pairs in order to suppress the worst-case maximum link load. Numerical examples show that, provided the worst-case maximum link load is less than 1.0, our proposed method achieves about six times the TCP throughput as the original fixed robust routing.

  • This paper addresses B-spline curve approximation of a set of ordered points to a specified toterance. The important issue in this problem is to reduce the number of control points while keeping the desired accuracy in the resulting B-spline curve. In this paper we propose a new method for error-bounded B-spline curve approximation based on adaptive selection of dominant points. The method first selects from the given points initial dominant points that govern the overall shape of the point set. It then computes a knot vector using the dominant points and performs B-spline curve fitting to all the given points. If the fitted B-spline curve cannot approximate the points within the tolerance, the method selects more points as dominant points and repeats the curve fitting process. The knots are determined in each step by averaging the parameters of the dominant points. The resulting curve is a piecewise B-spline curve of order (degree+1) p with $C^{(p-2)}$ continuity at each knot. The shape index of a point set is introduced to facilitate the dominant point selection during the iterative curve fitting process. Compared with previous methods for error-bounded B-spline curve approximation, the proposed method requires much less control points to approximate the given point set with the desired shape fidelity. Some experimental results demonstrate its usefulness and quality.

  • This paper proposes the method of surface classification and threshold value selection for surface classification of the three-dimensional object recognition. The processings of three-dimensional image processing system consist of three steps, i.e, acquisition of range data, feature extraction and matching process. This paper proposes the method of shape feature extraction from the acquired rage data in the entire three-dimensional image processing system. In order to achieve these goals, firstly, this article proposes the surface classification method by using the distribution characteristics of sign value from range values. Also pre-existing method which uses the K-curvature and K-curvature has limitation in the practical threshold value selection. To overcome this, this article proposes the selection of threshold value for surface classification. Finally, the effectiveness of this article is demonstrated by the several experiments.
