  • The objective of this study is structural analysis and modal analysis of treadmill roller. A 3D finite element model is implemented to calculate the stress, strain and natural frequency for treadmill roller In order to analyses treadmill roller, many variables such as load condition, boundary condition, weight condition and resonance are considered. Natural frequency of treadmill is compare to motor revolution.

  • A numerical method was developed that imposes constraint condition on the order parameters in martensitic phase transformation. In the method, an amplitude function having values of 1 or 0 was multiplied to transformation rates. The merit of the method is that the imposition of the constraint condition is more straightforward than a method with Lagrangian multiplier and easy to implement in the tangent modulus method. The developed method is applied to three-dimensional finite element analyses of single and poly crystalline shape memory alloys.

  • Some Miller-Mocanu type arguments are used here in order to establish a general starlikeness condition involving the familiar Ruscheweyh derivative. Relevant connections with the various known starlikeness conditions are also indicated. This paper concludes with several remarks and observations in regard especially to the nonsharpness of the main starlike condition presented here.

  • For a second order linear differential equation f" + A(z)f' + B(z)f = 0, with A(z) and B(z) being transcendental entire functions under some restrictions, we have established that all non-trivial solutions are of infinite order. In addition, we have proved that these solutions, with a condition, have exponent of convergence of zeros equal to infinity. Also, we have extended these results to higher order linear differential equations.

  • Turbine journal bearings are designed to support the weight of the rotors on a hydrodynamic oil film and to provide dynamic stability to the rotor system. The life time of journal bearings is infinite theoretically because the journal bearings are separated from the shaft journal by oil film. But poor design, assembly, operation and maintenance can cause problems to the journal bearings. The FMEA(Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) results of the journal bearings show that frequent maintenance of the journal bearings can cause failures and reduction of the bearing life. Therefore, the maintenance periods and history of the journal bearings with the bearing FMEA results are reviewed in order to establish the optimized maintenance period of the journal bearing for the nuclear power plants. Consequently it is necessary to maintain a best condition of lubrication system, reject time-based maintenance and perform the condition-based maintenance of journal bearings in order to maintain optimum condition of the journal bearing.

  • Tunnel bracket is used in railway tunnel area in order to maintain insulation. Insulator performance evaluation test is proceeded refer to IEC 61109 but it is impossible to reflect all the field condition where insulator installed. Korea has clear four season in climatic condition and peninsula with lots of mountain in geomorphology condition. Tunnel bracket material which used in korea are butyl rubber, polymer and silicone. Most of them were installed without any internal climatic and geomorphology condition. According to the KORAIL operation data most of the insulator break down occurs in tunnel. So interval of inspection period is shorter then any other insulator and lots of maintenance cost incurs. Most major railway advanced country such as germany and japan maintain tunnel bracket with their own experience. For example visual inspection carried out with in one or two years and detailed inspection carried out between three to five years. This paper analyzed materials and shapes of tunnel bracket to in order to find optimized one in korea peninsula. Proposed bracket were tested under regulation and experience field data. Finally it was installed at the field and evaluated until now.

  • Recently, localized heavy rain due to "EL-LIO" was a kind of reason by risk of slope stability. In this paper, the behaviour of slope when localized heavy rain was studied. In order to perform this study experimental programs were performed. Experimental programs was checked filtering conditions for slope stability due to localized heavy rain. And then, investigated slope stability and fracture mechanism each other types. In the experimental study, performed changing filtering condition by embankment, through five fixing factors such as rainfall intensity, slope shape, geological condition, compaction energy and water content. According to the results of this study, behaviour of facture slope has made a shallow and narrow waterway. This waterway expanded base stone. In order to, suggested a system for slope stability examination.

  • The numerical damping and dispersion error characteristics associated with difference schemes and a panel shift method used for the calculation of steady free surface flows by a panel method are an analysed in this paper. First, 12 finite difference operators used for the double model flow by Letcher are applied to a two dimensional cylinder with the Kelvin free surface condition and the numerical errors with these schemes are compared with those by the panel shift method. Then, 3-D waves due to a submerged source are calculated by the difference schemes, the panel shift method and also by a higher order boundary element method(HOBEM). Finally, the waves and wave resistance for Wigley's hull are calculated with these three schemes. It is shown that the panel shift method is free of numerical damping and dispersion error and performs better than the difference schemes. However, it can be concluded that the HOBEM also free of the numerical damping and dispersion error is the most stable, accurate and efficient.

  • Cellulose-degrading fungi were idenfied as Rhizoctonia solani AG2-2(IV), T. harzianum and C. cochliodes. Rhizoctonia solani AG2-2(IV) grows better in the acidified media of pH 4 and 5 than pH 6 and 7. Mycelial growth of T. harzianum and C. cochliodes was also higher in pH 4 and 5 than in pH 6 and 7. In order to relate the above findings to nutrient utilization, mycelial growth of R. solani AG2-2(IV) are evaluated with various carbon sources. R. solani AG2-2(IV) grows well in the order of mannose, cellobiose, glucose, xylose and arabinose. However, mycelial dry weights of T. harzianum were 98.7, 78.0, 72.3, 43.7 and 32.3mg in glucose, mannose, cellobiose, xylose, and arabinose, respectively. Mycelial dry weight of C. cochilodes was 118, 65, 57, 49, and 16mg in mannose, cellobiose, xylose, glucose, and arabinose, respectively. Result of cellulase assay of R. solani AG2-2(IV) and soil fungi was reffered as, R. solani AG2-2(IV) produced more cellulase on CMC substrate than on CEL and secretes more enzyme in floated condition than in water-immersed condition. T. harzianum secreted less amount of cellulase than R. solani AG2-2 and C. cochliodes. T. harzianum produced no enzyme on CEL under water-immersed condition. C. cochliodes produced similar amounts of cellulase on either CMC or CEL under both water-immersed and floated condition.

  • The effects of foundation scour depth and riverbed condition on the natural frequencies of a typical cross-river integral abutment bridge have been studied. The conventional operational modal analysis technique has been employed in order to extract the modal properties of the bridge and the results have been used in the Finite Element (FE) model updating procedure. Two tests have been carried out in two different levels of water and wet condition of the riverbed. In the first test, the riverbed was in dry condition for two subsequent years and the level of water was 10 meter lower than the natural riverbed. In the second test, the river was opened to water flow from the upstream dam and the level of water was 2 meter higher than the natural riverbed. The results of these two tests have also been used in order to find to what extend the presence of water flow in the river and saturation of the surrounding soil affect the bridge natural frequencies. Finally, the updated FE model of the bridge has been applied in a series of parametric analyses incorporating the effect of piles' relative scour depth on the bridge natural frequency of the first four vibration modes.
