  • In the recent design of high ductile fiber-reinforced cementitious composite ECC, which exhibits tensile strain-hardening behavior in the hardened state, optimizing both processing mechanical properties for specific applications is critical. This study introduced a method to develop useful ECCs in field, which possess the different fluid properties to facilitate diverse types of processing (i.e., self-consolidating or spray processing). Control of rheological modulation was regarded as a key factor to allow the performance of the desired processing, while retaining the ductile material properties. To control the rheological properties of the composite, we first determined basic ECC compositon, which is based on micromechanics and steady-state cracking theory. The stability and consequent viscosity of suspensions were, then, mediated by optimizing dosages of chemical and mineral admixtures. The rheological properties altered by this approach were revealed to be effective in obtaining ECC hardened properties, allowing us to readily achieve the desired function of the fresh ECC.

  • The problem (P) of optimizing a linear function $d^Tx$ over the set of efficient points for a multiple objective linear program (M) is difficult because the efficient set is nonconvex. There are some interesting properties between the objective linear vector d and the matrix of multiple objectives C and those properties lead us to establish criteria to solve (P) with a linear program. In this paper we investigate a system of the linear equations $C^T{\alpha}$ = d and construct two linearly independent positive vectors u, v such that ${\alpha}$ = u - v. From those vectors u, v, solving an weighted sum linear program for finding an efficient extreme point for the (M) is a way of getting an optimal solution of the problem (P). Therefore the theorems presented in this paper provided us an easy way of solving nonconvex program (P) with a weighted sum linear program.

  • Efficient scheduling and resource management are the key factor to reduce construction project budget (e.g., labor cost, equipment cost, material cost, etc.). Resource-based line of balance (LOB) technique has been used to complement the limitations of time-driven scheduling techniques (e.g., critical-path method). Optimizing construction alternatives contributes cost savings while honoring the project deadline. However, existing LOB scheduling is lack of identifying optimal resource combination. This study presents a method which identifies the optimal construction alternatives, hence achieving resource minimization in a repetitive construction by using genetic algorithm (GA). The method provides efficient planning tool that enhances the usability of the system.

  • In the study, a design methodology for robust minimization of a warpage in injection-molded part is presented. Taguchi's parameter design method is integrated with a computer simulation tool for injection molding to search for best design with robustness against the process variability by noises. The proposed methodology is based on a two-stage process: (1) reducing a warpage in the part by optimizing the part geometry including the layout and size of ribs, and (2) additionally minimizing the warpage by optimizing process conditions. An example is used to illustrate the usefulness of the design methodology.

  • The homogenization method is applied to maximize crash energy absorption for a given volume. To obtain the best combination of optimizing factors by resizing and threshold algorithms for an example problem, the sensitivity analysis has been performed using design of experiments. The results show that very little interaction among optimizing factors is found. Optimization analysis of several combination of factors is conducted; and the orignal design and a new design with holes for an example problem are compared for crash energy absorption.

  • High ductile fiber reinforced mortar suitable for wet-mix shotcreting (sprayable ductile mortar) 10 the fresh state, while maintaining tensile strain-hardening behavior in the hardened state, has been developed based on micromechanics and workability control. In the development concept of sprayable ductile mortar, micromechanics is adopted to properly select the matrix, fiber, and interface properties to exhibit strain hardening and multiple cracking behaviors in the composites. Within the pre-determined micromechanical constraints, the workability is controlled by optimizing mix proportions. A series of spray tests show the excellent pumpability and sprayability of the sprayable ductile mortar. Subsequent direct tensile tests demonstrate that the tensile performance of sprayed mortar is comparable to that of cast mortar, for the same mix design.

  • The problem of the optimization of fuzzy relational models for dealing with (non-fuzzy) numerical data is investigated. In this context, interfaces optimization assumes particular importance, becoming a determinant factor in what concerns the overall model performance. Considering this, several scenarios for building fuzzy relational models are presented. These are: (i) optimizing I/O interfaces in advance (independently from the linguistic part of the model); (ii) optimizing I/O interfaces in advance and allowing that their optimized parameters may change during the learning of the linguistic part of the model; (iii) build simultaneously both interfaces and the linguistic subsystem; and (iv) build simultaneously both linguistic subsystem and interfaces, now subject to semantic integrity constraints. As linguistic subsystems, both a basic type and an extended versions of fuzzy relation equations are exploited in each one of these scenarios. A comparative analysis of the differ nt approaches is summarized.

  • A new method for the optimal design of a single-sided linear induction motor(SLIM) is presented. The method utilizes the neural networks and finite element method for optimizing the design parameters of SLIM. The finite element analysis is used to produce a variety of neural networks training data and the neural networks is used for optimizing the design parameters by sequential unconstrained minimization technique(SUMT). As a result, it is known that the novel method is very efficient and accurate as an optimization technique.

  • By reason of variation magnetic field, cogging torque is generated. Cogging torque of IPM is bigger than other type permanent magnet motor. So, this paper presents a Optimizeing notch to reduce cogging torque of interior type permanent magnet(: IPM) motor. Through Fourier formulation of magnetic field on rotor, we found position of notch and manufactured armature that is designed by optimizing analysis. The validity of the proposed design is confirmed with experiments.

  • The reactor power control system is described in the fashion of the order increased LQR system. To obtain the optimal state feedback gain vectors, the weighting matrix of the performance function should be determined. Since the contentional method has some limitations, stochastic searching methods are investigated to optimize the LQR weighting matrix using the modified genetic algorithm combined with the simulated annealing, a new optimizing tool named the hybrid MGA-SA is developed to determine the weighting parameters of the LQR system. This optimizing tool provides a more systematic approach in designing the LQR system. Since it can be easily incorporated with any forms of the cost function, it also provides the great flexibility in the optimization problems.
