In order to use mBIZ code as the practical transmission code, the information block length have to be determined. If the information block length is short, timing information disapperance is reduced, but transmission speed is increased as the result of inserted redundancy bit. While, if the information block length is long, timing information disapperance and jitter are caused. So it is very important to determine the optimal timing information block length. Therefore, in this paper, we determined the optimal information block length using S/X endurance method.
Background: We conducted this study to determine the optimal length of patellar and tibial bone blocks for the modified transtibial (TT) technique in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using the bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) graft. Methods: The current single-center, retrospective study was conducted in a total of 64 patients with an ACL tear who underwent surgery at our medical institution between March 2015 and February 2016. After harvesting the BPTB graft, we measured its length and that of the patellar tendon, patellar bone block, and tibial bone block using the arthroscopic ruler and double-checked measurements using a length gauge. Outcome measures included the length of tibial and femoral tunnels, inter-tunnel distance, length of the BPTB graft, patellar tendon, patellar bone block, and tibial bone block and graft-tunnel length mismatch. The total length of tunnels was defined as the sum of the length of the tibial tunnel, inter-tunnel distance and length of the femoral tunnel. Furthermore, the optimal length of the bone block was calculated as (the total length of tunnels - the length of the patellar tendon) / 2. We analyzed correlations of outcome measures with the height and body mass index of the patients. Results: There were 44 males (68.7%) and 20 females (31.3%) with a mean age of 31.8 years (range, 17 to 65 years). ACL reconstruction was performed on the left knee in 34 patients (53%) and on the right knee in 30 patients (47%). The optimal length of bone block was 21.7 mm (range, 19.5 to 23.5 mm). When the length of femoral tunnel was assumed as 25 mm and 30 mm, the optimal length of bone block was calculated as 19.6 mm (range, 17 to 21.5 mm) and 22.1 mm (range, 19.5 to 24 mm), respectively. On linear regression analysis, patients' height had a significant correlation with the length of tibial tunnel (p = 0.003), inter-tunnel distance (p = 0.014), and length of patellar tendon (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Our results indicate that it would be mandatory to determine the optimal length of tibial tunnel in the modified TT technique for ACL reconstruction using the BPTB graft. Further large-scale, multi-center studies are warranted to establish our results.

The paper presents an efficient computation of optimal tool length for 5-axis mold & die machining. The implemented procedure processes an NC file as an initial input, where the NC data is generated by another commercial CAM system. A commercial CAM system generates 5-axis machining NC data which, in its own way, is optimal based on pre-defined machining condition such as tool-path pattern, tool-axis control via inclination angles, etc. The proper tool-length should also be provided. The tool-length should be as small as possible in order to enhance machinability as well as surface finish. A feasible tool-length at each NC block can be obtained by checking interference between workpiece and tool components, usually when the tool-axis is not modified at this stage for most CAM systems. Then the minimum feasible tool-length for an NC file consisting of N blocks is the maximum of N tool-length values. However, it can be noted that slight modification of tool-axis at each block may reduce the minimum feasible tool-length in mold & die machining. This approach can effectively be applied in machining feature regions such as steep wall or deep cavity. It has been implemented and is used at a molding die manufacturing company in Korea.

This paper is focused on an optimal block sectioning technique which are widely used in conventional railway system. We studied braking distance with pure train braking performance to generalize train braking. We tried to apply the braking distance to wayside signaling system to decide optimal block sectioning to reduce headway. The braking distances are obtained for 2 aspects, 3 aspects, 4 aspects and n aspects such that step speed control, are longer than the pure braking distance. We found an optimal solution with the generalized n aspects, and a minimum block distance for ATO mode.
The purpose of this study is to propose a standard of converting 3D shape of men in twenties to 2D patterns. This can be a basis for scientific and automatic pattern making for high quality custom clothes. Firstly, representative 3D body shape of men was modeled. Then the 3D model was divided into 3 shells, front, side and back. Among them, the front shell was divided into 4 blocks by bust line and princess line. Secondly, curves are generated on each block according to matrix combination by grid method. Then triangles were developed into 2D pieces by reflecting the 3D curve length. The grid was arranged to maintain outer curve length. Next, the area of developed pieces and block were calculated and difference ratio between the block area and the developed pieces' area is calculated. Also, area difference ratio by the number of triangles is calculated. The difference ratio was represented as graphs and optimal section is selected by the shape of graphs. The optimal matrix was set considering connection with other blocks. Curves of torso upper front shell were regenerated by the optimal matrix and developed into pieces. We validated it's suitability by comparing difference ratio between the block area and the developed pieces' area of optimal section. The results showed that there was no significant difference between block area and the pieces' area developed by optimal matrix. The optimal matrix for 2D developing could be characterized as two types according to block's shape characteristics, one is affected by triangle number, the other is affected by number of raws more than columns. Through this study, both the 2D pattern developing from 3D body shape and 3D modeling from 2D pattern is possible, so it's standardization also possible.
In layout of LSI and PWB, block pack- ing problem is very important in order to reduce chip area. Sequence-pair is typical one of conventional pack- ing method and can search nearly-optimal solution by using Simulated Annealing(SA). SA takes huge computation time due to evaluating of various packing results. Therefore, Sequence-pair is not effective enough for fast layout evaluation including estimation of wire length and rotation of every blocks. This paper proposes an efficient block packing method to minimize wire length and chip area. Our method searches an optimal packing efficient- ly by using a cluster growth algorithm with changing the most valuable packing score on packing process.
The transform trellis code is an optimal source code as a block size and the constraint length of a shift register go to infinite for stationary Gaussian sources with the squared-error distortion measure. However to implement this code, we have to choose the finite block size and constraint length. Moreover real-world sources are inherently non stationary. To overcome these difficulties, we developed a training algorithm for the transform trellis code. The trained transform trellis code which uses the same rates to each block led to a variation in the resulting distortion from one block to another. To alleviate this non-uniformity in the encoded image, we constructed clusters from the variance of the training data and assigned different rates for each cluster.
Energy consumption is a key issue in body sensor networks (BSNs) since energy-constrained sensors monitor the vital signs of human beings in healthcare applications. In this paper, packet size optimization for BSNs has been analyzed to improve the efficiency of energy consumption. Existing studies on packet size optimization in wireless sensor networks cannot be applied to BSNs because the different operational characteristics of nodes and the channel effects of in-body and on-body propagation cannot be captured. In this paper, automatic repeat request (ARQ), forward error correction (FEC) block codes, and FEC convolutional codes have been analyzed regarding their energy efficiency. The hop-length extension technique has been applied to improve this metric with FEC block codes. The theoretical analysis and the numerical evaluations reveal that exploiting FEC schemes improves the energy efficiency, increases the optimal payload packet size, and extends the hop length for all scenarios for in-body and on-body propagation.
This paper describes a scheduling problem of the panel block assembly shop in a shipbuilding industry. Because the shipbuilding is a labor intensive industry the most important consideration in a panel block assembly shop is the workload balancing. which balances man-hour weight and welding length and so on. It should be determined assembly schedule and workstation considering a daily load balancing and a workstation load balancing simultaneously. To solve the problem we develop a hybrid genetic algorithm. Hybrid genetic algorithm proposed in this paper consists of two phases. The first phase uses the heuristic method to find a initial feasible solution which provides a useful information about optimal solution. The second phase proposes the genetic algorithm to derive the optimal solution with the initial population consisting of feasible solutions based on the initial solution. Finally we carried out computational experiments for this load balancing problem which indicate that developed method is effective for finding good solutions.

Objective : To assess the clinical and radiological factors as predictors for successful outcomes in lumbar disc herniation (LDH) treatment. Methods : Two groups of patients with single level LDH (L4-5) requiring treatment were retrospectively studied. The surgery group (SG) included 34 patients, and 30 patients who initially refused the surgery were included in the nerve blocks group (NG). A visual analogue scale (VAS) for leg and back pain and motor deficit were initially evaluated before procedures, and repeated at 1, 6, and 12 months. Radiological factors including the disc herniation length, disc herniation area, canal length-occupying ratio, and canal area-occupying ratio were measured and compared. Predicting factors of successful outcomes were determined with multivariate logistic regression analysis after the optimal cut off values were established with a receiver operating characteristic curve. Results : There was no significant demographic difference between two groups. A multivariate logistic regression analysis with radiological and clinical (12 months follow-up) data revealed that the high disc herniation length with cutoff value 6.31 mm [odds ratio (OR) 2.35; confidence interval (CI) 1.21-3.98] was a predictor of successful outcomes of leg pain relief in the SG. The low disc herniation length with cutoff value 6.23 mm (OR 0.05; CI 0.003-0.89) and high baseline VAS leg (OR 12.63; CI 1.64-97.45) were identified as predictors of successful outcomes of leg pain relief in the NG. Conclusion : The patients with the disc herniation length larger than 6.31 mm showed successful outcomes with surgery whereas the patients with the disc herniation length less than 6.23 mm showed successful outcomes with nerve block. These results could be considered as a radiological criteria in choosing optimal treatment options for LDH.
