• Measurement of optical flow is a core problem of matching through the analysis of image sequences. In this paper, horn's and anandan's techniques are analyzed to derive a better technique for matching. Experimental results show that Horn's technique has low accuracy in measuring the velocity of optical flow while anandan's technique has poor performaance for diverging images. Based upon this observation, a new technique for the measurement of optical flow is proposed.

  • The effect of the specifications of a silicon-on-insulator vertical slot optical waveguide on the sensitivity of homogeneous and surface sensing configurations for TE and TM polarization, respectively, was systematically analyzed using numerical software. The specifications were optimized based on the confinement factor and transmission power of the TE-guided mode distributed in the slot. The waveguide sensitivities of homogeneous and surface sensing were calculated according to the specifications of the optimized slot optical waveguide.

  • ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interfermetry) is an optical technique to measure surface deforamtion of engineering components and materials in industrial ares. This optical method is capable of providing full-field results with high spatial resolution, high speed and is the non-contact technique. One of important application aspects using electronic speckle pattern interferometry is to generate contours of a diffuse object in order to provide data for 3-D shape analysis and topography measurement. The contouring method by modified dual-beam speckle pattern interferometry is proposed. We introduce a shift of the illumination beams through optical fiber in order to obtain the contour fringe patterns. The speckle pattern correlation technique is suitable for providing measurement range from millimeters to several centimeters. The complete geometric analysis of the contoretical and experimental results are obtained.

  • In this paper, we system the system design and numerical analysis of the ultrafast optical delay line using by optical phase modulator. The numerical analysis carried out with 1310nm, lops laser and electro-optic phase modulator. As the results of numerical analysis, we show a scanning rate of 0.5 GHz and a delay range of 19.0ps. Compare with mechanical delay line, the optical delay line has a high scanning speed and a high repetition rate.

  • A note-book PC has become thinner in recent years. And optical disc drives are required to have high memory capacity. Therefore, the actuator of optical disc drives must be thinner and have disc tilt compensation function for high density memory. In this paper, the hybrid type actuator is investigated for 3-axis ultra-slim actuator. A 3-axis ultra-slim actuator is designed by using the modal analysis of the actuator and the electromagnetic analysis of magnetic circuit to achieve dynamic characteristics and magnetic flux density for high sensitivity, respectively. Also, magnetic force between tilt magnet and tilt yoke is investigated to find the influence on the DC sensitivity in the focus and track directions.

  • This paper presents the sensitivity analysis of the leasst qsuares velocity estimation of an omnidirectional mobile robot using a regular polygonal array of optical mice. First, the velocity kinematics from a mobile robot to an array of optical mice is derived as an overdetermined linear system. Then, for a given set of optical mouse readings, the least squares velocity estimation of a mobile robot is obtained as the simple average. Finally, the sensitivity analysis of the proposed least squares velocity estimation to imprecise installation is made.

  • The validity of applying the Modified Airy Function (MAF) method to the problems of graded-index optical waveguides and graded potential barrier analysis was critically examined. In the former case, the method yielded very accurate results from the derived eigenvalue equations. In the latter case, however, the same method produced results that deviated significantly from exact numerical results for barriers with a smooth peak. The causes of the discrepancies were investigated in detail.

  • We present an innovative real-time laser welding monitoring technique employing the correlation analysis of the plasma plume optical emission generated during the process. The plasma optical radiation emitted during Nd:YAG laser welding of S45C steel samples has detected with a Photodiode and analyzed under different process conditions. The discrete DC voltage difference, filter methods and wavelet transform has been used to decompose the optical signal into various discrete series of sequences over different frequency bands. Considering that wavelet analysis can decompose the optical signals, extract the characteristic information of the signals and define the defects location accurately, it can be used to implement process-control of laser welding.

  • The biomarkers related to the colorectal cancers and diseases were surveyed and summarized, and an optical electronic nose was researched and developed for their analysis. The prototyped sensor revealed that it could discriminate two gases: ethanol 2000 ppm and $CO_2$ 500 ppm. Furthermore, the sensor demonstrated the potential capability of estimation of $CO_2$ concentration with 95% confidence level. Based on the above experimental results, the developed optical electronic nose was tested with the mixtures of gases (Isopropyl Alcohol, Acetone, Methanol, and Toluene) and the biomarkers were successfully segregated using principal component analysis.
