An Empirical Analysis on the Productivity of Coastal Fishery (연안어업 생산성에 관한 실증연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the productivity of the costal fisheries in Jeonnam Province. In this study, the operational characteristics and Cobb-Douglas production function of coastal fisheries were examined based on a research on the actual condition of costal fisheries (RACF). The statistical analysis of RACF data reveals that Cobb-Douglas production function consists of the three variables: fishing quantity per ton-age, the number of fisherman per ton-age and fishing equipment cost per ton-age. The results of this study show us that the relation and productivity between labor and capital of the operational equipment in the coastal fisheries. If extensive comparable biological and market data become available, analysis model can be widely applied to yield more accurate results.

Design of ramp-stress accelerated life test plans for a parallel system with two independent components using masked data

  • In this paper, we have formulated optimum Accelerated Life Test (ALT) plan for a parallel system with two independent components using masked data with ramp-stress loading scheme and Type-I censoring. Consider a system of two independent and non-identical components connected in parallel. Such a system fails whenever all of its components has failed. The exact component that causes the system to fail is often unknown due to cost and time constraint. For each parallel system at test, we observe its system's failure time and a set of component that includes the component actually causing the system to fail. The stress-life relationship is modelled using inverse power law, and cumulative exposure model is assumed to model the effect of changing stress. The optimal plan consists in finding out the optimum stress rate using D-optimality criterion. The method developed has been explained using a numerical example and sensitivity analysis carried out.

Financial Structural and Operational Characteristics and Management Decision-making Behavior of the Red-figured Hospitals (적자병원의 재무구조 및 운영적 특성과 경영의사결정 행태)

  • Financial ratio indicators of the 46 sample hospitals provided by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, together with the survey data responded by the 57 sample hospitals, were analysed to identify the characteristics of the red-figured hospitals' financial structure, financial operational efficiency and management decision-making behavior, The financial characteristics identified through the analysis include high dependency to liabilities, high salary expenses and overhead costs, low profitability of the unduly large amount of fixed assets, and low managerial efficieny of inventory. The hospitals, in face of the IMF economic impasse, took the necessary decision-making and counter measures to cut down salary expenses, to increase the number of patient and medical revenue, and to reduce investment to fixed assets. Based on these findings this study suggested that the hospitals should take more active cost containment measures, financial structural reorganization, and developoment of the strategies that can contribute to increase of the number of patient and medical revenue and that do not. require much capital funds.

  • In sensor signal conditioning and processing, offset and drift characteristics of an operational amplifier are an important factor when the amplifier is used for a precise sensor signal amplifier. In order to use it in high accuracy, an expensive trimming or a complex compensation circuit is required. This paper presents the improved sensor signal conditioning and processing device for ubiquitous sensor network(USN) application or general purpose by developing a hardware of the circuit for reducing the offset voltage and drift characteristics, and a software for its control and sensor signal processing. We realize better offset voltage and drift characteristics of the signal conditioning circuit using low cost operational amplifiers. The experimental results show that this technique is effective in improving the performance of the sensor signal processing device.

  • The need for holistic modeling efforts for returns that capture the extended closed loop supply chain (CLSC) system at strategic as well as operational level has been clearly recognized by the industry and academia. Strategic decision-makers need comprehensive models that can guide them in efficient decision-making to increase the profitability of the entire forward and return chain. Therefore, determination of a near optimal design configuration, which includes the environmental, economical and technological capability factors, is important in strategic decision-making effort that affect the profitability of the closed loop supply chain. In this paper, we adopted an improved system dynamics methodology to tackle strategic issues that affect various performance measures, like market, time/cost, environment etc., for closed loop supply chains. After studying real life implementation issues in CLSC design, we presented guidelines for the PBM (Participative Business Modeling) methodology and presented its extension for the strategic dynamic system modeling of return chains. Finally, we demonstrated the measurement of operational performance by extending SD (system dynamic) application to closed loop supply chain management.

  • This paper deals with the application of commercial mobile communication system for improvement of the military mobile wireless communication systems. Currently, commercial mobile communication systems are rapidly growing from first and second Generation system to third and forth Generation system, which can provide multimedia service of high speed and high capacity(e.g., IMT-2000). If we adapt these emerging commercial technology for the military communication, the military will have many benefits in terms of cost saving, early operational deployment and performance. And it is possible to support the communication necessary in the future warfield operational environment. Therefore, we analyzed differences between commercial systems and military systems, and adaptability in terms of security, survivability and performance.   • This paper proposed the optimal operational scheduling of cogeneration system for paper mill connected with several auxiliary devices Auxiliary devices that include auxiliary boilers, waste heat boilers and sludge uncinerators operate with multi-cogeneration systems. Especially environment element was considered in objective function to solve environment problem. Electricity can be purchased through power system from utility.   • In this paper, the consumable spare parts requirement determination problem of newly procured equipment systems is considered. The problem is formulated as the cost minimization problem with operational availability constraint. Assuming part failure rate is constant during operational period, an analytical method is developed to obtain spare part requirements. Since this solution tends to overestimate the requirements, a fast search simulation procedure is introduced to adjust it to the realistic solution. The analytical solution procedure and the simulation procedure are performed recursively until a near optimal solution is achieved. The experimental results show that the near optimal solution is approached in a fairly short amount of time.

  • Operation a subway company requires high amount of early construction, operation and maintenance costs. Seoul Metro, one of the public subway companies in Seoul, Korea, has undergone operational deficit from its establishment, and the main reason is that the early construction and operation cost exceed the total revenue. Therefore, detailed researches on current operation system and possible alternatives are conducted to settle down finance trouble of the company. In particular, problems on operation and ticketing systems are analyzed, and based on that, necessity and detailed plan of railroad pass for one day are introduced and analyzed.

  • LOS(Level of Service), the qualitative measure describing operational condition of highway, must be evaluated as quantative index in terms of user service. So, This study is focused on developing the user cost function that user cost is measured in the variation of V/C, MOE(Measure of Effectiveness) of LOS in basic Section of highway. The user cost is calculated as the sum of accident cost, operation cost, travel time cost. The data is collected in the four basic section of Singal-Ansan and Jung bu Highway. As the result of user cost function analysis, the user cost is the lowest When V/C is 0.54. Considering the V/C ratio(0.7) of Basic Section in rural highway suggested in KHCM, We find out that the LOS suggested KHCM increase the user cost of highway.
