  • In this paper, we presented a Vt-DRO with a wide electrical frequency tuning range, using open-loop gain method. The Vt-DRO was composed of 3-stages, resonator, amplifier and phase shifter. In order to satisfy an oscillation condition, we determined magnitude and phase of each stage. The measured S-parameter of cascaded 3-stages shows open-loop oscillation condition. Also, using measured open loop group delay, we derived the relation for electrical frequency tuning range. The Vt-DRO was implemented by connecting the input and the output of the designed open-loop and resulted in closed-loop. As a results, tuning-range of Vt-DRO is 82 MHz, which is close to the predicted results for tuning voltage 0${\sim}$10 V and shows linear frequency tuning at the center frequency of 5.3 GHz. The phase noise is -104 ${\pm}$1 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset frequency and power is 5.86${\pm}$1 dBm respectively.

  • A novel and compact elliptic-function bandpass filter is proposed in this letter. The techniques of slot etching and the addition of open stubs are applied to enhance the self-inductance and self-capacitance of hexagonal open-loop resonators. Thus, size reduction and improved transmission performance are obtained. Compared to the performance of the conventional design, the central frequency and insertion loss are reduced by 28% and 3.1 dB, respectively. Measurements show that the proposed filter has a fraction bandwidth of 23% at the central frequency of 1.84 GHz, and its insertion loss in the passband is less than -1.5 dB. The bandpass filter occupies only 12 mm${\times}$21.2 mm (approximately $0.24{\lambda}_g{\times}0.14{\lambda}_g$).

  • A new internal antenna for GSM/DCS/Bluetooth application is proposed by using a folded loop resonator. Both feed leg and shorting leg are symmetrically implemented at the center of the folded loop, thus leading to produce resonances at integer frequencies of quarter wavelength. An open stub added at one end of the folded loop can reduce resonant frequencies. The open stub play a role in generating PIFA structure at a GSM band, thus increasing bandwidth, Two resonances at the GSM band are observed at folded ring and PIFA, respectively.

  • The external quality factor ($Q_e$) is controlled by coupling condition between resonator and input/output ports in design of microwave filter. In this paper, we represent extracting method of external quality factor using phase response for resonator with input/output ports according to position of feed line from microstrip line resonator. The results regarding to position, coupling gap and line width for tapped line and coupled line structure are represented, and we got the exact $Q_e$ value from the this method. This results will be applied to coupled resonator filter design.

  • In this paper, a four-pole quasi-elliptic function bandpass filter of 1.95GHz center frequency with 60 MHz bandwidth for IMT-2000 using miniaturized square SIR(Stepped Impedance Resonator) is designed and fabricated. The simulation of NUFDTD(Nonuniform Finite Difference Time Domain) is used to design the resonator and to calculate the coupling coefficient of three basic structures. The size reduction of miniaturized square SIR resonator is about more than 50% compare with a square open loop resonator. Bandpass filter using this resonator shows good microwave characteristic with the harmonic suppression of about 19dB. The results of measurements are almost similar to those of simulation.

  • This paper proposes an open-loop clock recovery circuit (CRC) using two high-Q dielectric resonator (DR) filters for 39.8 Gb/s and 42.8 Gb/s dual-mode operation. The DR filters are fabricated to obtain high Q-values of approximately 950 at the 40 GHz band and to suppress spurious resonant modes up to 45 GHz. The CRC is implemented in a compact module by integrating the DR filters with other circuits in the CRC. The peak-to-peak and RMS jitter values of the clock signals recovered from 39.8 Gb/s and 42.8 Gb/s pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS) data with a word length of $2^{31}-1$ are less than 2.0 ps and 0.3 ps, respectively. The peak-to-peak amplitudes of the recovered clocks are quite stable and within the range of 2.5 V to 2.7 V, even when the input data signals vary from 150 mV to 500 mV. Error-free operation of the 40 Gb/s-class optical receiver with the dual-mode CRC is confirmed at both 39.8 Gb/s and 42.8 Gb/s data rates.

  • A balanced dual-band bandpass filter based on ${\lambda}$/2 stepped-impedance resonators and open-loop resonators is proposed in this letter. By employing a type of self-feedback structure, an extra transmission zero is introduced near the common-mode resonance frequency, and the common-mode signal is suppressed. The measured results indicate that the filter can operate in 2.46 GHz and 5.6 GHz bands, and the insertion loss is 1.85 dB and 1.9 dB, respectively. Also, better common-mode suppression is achieved.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a novel DGS(Defected Ground Structure) resonator and has designed the band -pass filter using the proposed ${\subset}$ stub-I type DGS resonator. This structure has strong advantages that can vary the retune loss at the passband freely and also can easily tune the attenuation pole frequency at the stopband. The bandpass filter can be made more smaller than the existing filters and be used to find the various applications for eliminating the harmonics and spurious mode at IMT-2000 band.

  • The implementation and design of the wideband IFIU using aperture open loop resonator and reversed phase technique to reduce the local oscillator leakage signal was represented in this paper. The local oscillator leakage signal is generated in stage of frequency conversion, especially in frequency conversion of fully digital modulation signal close to DC signal. The leakage signal and spurious signals, which have effects on adjacent channel or in-band channel as interference signals, were reduced below -60 dBc for 45 Mbps and 155 Mbps IF interface units. The group delay for both IFIUs shows low ripple characteristics of 15 ns and 8 ns, respectively. Also, the amplitude ripple characteristic in 150 MHz bandwidth with L-band center frequency satisfies the required specification of 2 dB. The implemented IFIU provides the required specifications for wideband satellite communication system.

  • This paper proposes a novel concept for a microstrip resonator that can function as a filter and as an antenna at the same time. The proposed structure consists of an outer ring, an open loop-type inner ring, a circular patch, and three ports. The frequencies where the proposed structure works as a filter and as an antenna, respectively, are determined primarily by the radius of the inner ring and the circular patch. The measured results show that, when the microstrip resonator operates as a filtering device, this filter has about 15.1 % bandwidth at the center frequency of 0.63 GHz and a minimum insertion loss of 1.5 dB within passband. There are three transmission zeros at 0.52 GHz, 1.14 GHz, and 2.22 GHz. In the upper stopband, cross coupling - taking place at the stub of the outer ring - and the open loop-type inner ring produce one transmission zero each. The circular patch generates the dual-mode property of the filter and another transmission zero, whose location can be easily adjusted by altering the size of the circular patch. The proposed structure works as an antenna at 2.7 GHz, showing a gain of 3.8 dBi. Compared to a conventional patch antenna, the proposed structure has a similar antenna gain. At the resonant frequencies of the filter and the antenna, high isolation(less than -25 dB) between the filter port and the antenna port can be obtained.
