  • In the problem of estimating the error variance in the balanced fixed- effects one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) model, Ghosh (1994) proposed hierarchical Bayes estimators and raised a conjecture for which all of his hierarchical Bayes estimators are admissible. In this paper we prove this conjecture is true by representing one-way ANOVA model to the distributional form of a multiparameter exponential family.

  • For the one-way random model when the ratio of the variance components is of interest, Bayesian analysis is often appropriate. In this paper, we develop the noninformative priors for the ratio of the variance components under the balanced one-way random effect model. We reveal that the second order matching prior matches alternative coverage probabilities up to the second order (Mukerjee and Reid, 1999) and is a HPD(Highest Posterior Density) matching prior. It turns out that among all of the reference priors, the only one reference prior (one-at-a-time reference prior) satisfies a second order matching criterion. Finally we show that one-at-a-time reference prior produces confidence sets with expected length shorter than the other reference priors and Cox and Reid (1987) adjustment.

  • When a comparison is made with respect to the unknown best treatment, Hsu (1984, 1985) proposed the so called multiple comparisons procedures with the best in the analysis of variance model. Applying Hsu's results to the analysis of covariance model, simultaneous confidence intervals for multiple comparisons with the best in a balanced one-way layout with a random covariate are developed and are applied to a real data example.

  • Variance components model appears often in designing experiments including time series data analysis. This paper is investigating the properties of the various procedures in estimating variance components for the two-way random model without interaction under normality. In this age of computer-oriented computations, MINQUE is found to be quite practicla because of the robustness with respect to the design configurations and parameters. Also adjusted AOV type estimation procedure is found to yield superior results over the unadjusted one.

  • The usefulness of analysis of variance(ANOVA) estimates of variance components is impaired by the frequent occurrence of negative values. The probability of such an occurrence is therefore of interest. In this paper, we investigate a variety of reasons for negative estimates under one way random effects model. It can be shown, through simulation, that this probability increases when the number of treatments is too small for fixed total observations, unbalancedness of data is severe, ratio of variance components is too small, and data may contain many outliers.

  • The paper explores determinants of corporate adoption of social media and the role of technology acceptance model in the path. This paper assimilates some components of the technology acceptance dimension and social expectation theories to determine corporate intentions to use social media. Six hundred and forty-eight samples collected from hotel staff in Korea are analyzed using factor analysis, structural equation model techniques and one-way analysis of variance. The results show that corporate needs, social expectations, ease of use and usefulness should be viewed as important antecedents explaining the firm's behavioral intention to use social media. The study also finds that the ease of use and usefulness of the technology acceptance model have positive directional mediation effects in the path diagram.

  • Rainfall-runoff model of Jeju Oedo Stream was used to compute the optimal unit hydrograph by HEC-HMS model that reflecting on watershed characteristics. Each rainfall event was comparatively analyzed with the actual flow measurement using Clark, Snyder and SCS synthetic methods for derived unit hydrograph. Subsequently, the null hypothesis was established as p-value for peak flow and peak time of each unit hydrograph by one-way ANOVA(Analysis of variance) was larger than significance level of 0.05. There was no significant difference in peak flow and peak time between different methods of unit hydrograph. As a result of comparing error rate with actual flow measurement data, Clark synthetic unit graph best reflected in Oedo Stream as compared to other methods, and error rate of Clark unit hydrograph was 0.02~1.93% and error rate at peak time was 0~2.74%.

  • The purpose of this paper is to assert the necessity of social health as a solution to resolve social issues of the aged in the nearing aged society, and to assess the effects that the social health of the aged has on their quality of life. In doing so, the study gathered as its study subjects those aged persons who participate in social activities among persons aged 65 or older who reside in Euiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do. A total of 157 subject studies were used for the final analysis. An analysis of frequency, t-Test and one-way ANOVA, Duncan post-test, correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis was conducted by using the IBM SPSS 21.0. The main study findings are as follows. with respect to the correlation between socio-demographic factors and social health, economic level, subjective level of health and social health showed a positive correlation. Domiciliary treatment level and subjective level of health showed a negative correlation with economic level and social health, respectively. with respect to the effects of social health on quality of life, in the case of model 1 which only input factors of socio-demographical characteristics, the variance explanation power was found to be 38.2% and the regression model was found to be significant (F=13.141, p<.001). In the case of model 2 which input factors of socio-demographical characteristics and social health, the variance explanation power was found to be 13.8% and the regression model was found to be significant (F=20.057, p<.001). Based on such study results, this study recommends a number of proposals.

  • Purpose: This study aims to identify factors influencing the stigma communication concerning HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)/AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) patients between health and medical college students. Methods: In this descriptive study, the participants were 158 college students from a certain university. Data were collected from September 18 to September 30, 2018. Self-reported questionnaires were used to measure AIDS-related knowledge, homosexual awareness, fear of HIV/AIDS patients and stigma communication. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, one way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation and a stepwise multiple regression analysis using the SPSS 23.0 program. Results: The factors influencing the stigma communication between health and medical college students were a fear of HIV/AIDS patients (β=.47, p<.001) and homosexual awareness (β=-.15, p=.040), which together explained 28.0% of the variance in the model. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that an education program for health and medical college students should be developed. Additionally, when designing the education program, it is recommended that the contents for inducing attitude changes should include affective areas as well as knowledge-oriented contents. The study suggests that it is necessary to provide a systematic education program to decrease the stigma for HIV/AIDS patients before health care providers enter clinical practice.

  • The analysis of variance for randomized block design or two way classification data is well known. In this paper, particularly, we considered two stage nested design in which the levels of one factor is not identical for different levels of another factor. We investigate the structural properties of two stage nested design and the properties of error sum of squares for random effect model. For the application of two way nested design, we consider two-period crossover design which is used commonly for the equivalence test to bio-similar product. The confidence interval estimation of the difference of two population means in the crossover design is discussed based on statistical package SPSS.
