  • Consider a capacitated facility location problem in which the demands of customers are all equal and so are the capacities of facilities. Under the restriction that each customer's uniform demand be met by exactly one facility, the objective is to select a set of facilities to open, and to assign customer's demand to them so as to minimize the total cost which includes fixed costs of opening facilities as well as variable assignment costs. The problem is modelled as a pure zero-one program which may be viewed as a variant of well-known capacitated facility location problems. The purpose of this study is to develop efficient computational procedures for solving the pure zero-one facility location problems. Due to the special structure of our zero-one location problem with uniform demand, it can be converted to a location problem with the unimodular property. A Lagrangean relaxation algorithm is developed to solve the location problem. The algorithm is made efficient by employing a device which exploits the special structure of a surrogate constraint. The efficiency of the algorithm is analyzed through computational experiments with some test problems.

  • Human beings can represent state of mind such as psychological state, personality or emotional trouble by the pictures painted on one's own initiative. But in general, it is hard to understand a consulter's unconscious state through one's objective and intentional descriptions only. So one's psychological state and emotional trouble can be understood and cured by color and location information of objects drawn in one's picture. By this reason, a consultant can help and settle a consulter's growth stages of life and emotional trouble through treatment by pictures. In this paper, we proposed a method to find out state of sensitivity by analysis of color and location information represented in a picture and fuzzy inference rules. We applied the proposed method to the states of sensitivity from color information proposed by Alschuler and Hattwick and the psychological states from location information proposed by Grunwald. In the experimental results by the two applications, we verified the proposed sensitivity analysis method is efficient.

  • This study intended to analyze an influence of the structure elements on the optimal location for one-outrigger system in tall building by using MIDAS-Gen. In this investigation, the analysis parameters were the outrigger position and the stiffness of main structure elements such as shear walls, outrigger systems, exterior columns connected in outrigger system and frames not to be connected in outrigger system. For the objective of finding out the optimal location for one-outrigger system in high-rise building, we studied the lateral displacement in top level of 80 stories building. The results of this study indicated that the outrigger location and the stiffness of main structure elements such as shear walls, outrigger systems, exterior columns connected in outrigger system and frames not to be connected in outrigger system had an influence on the optimal location of one-outrigger system. In addition, it is showed that the research results can be very useful in obtaining the structure design data for looking for the optimal location of one-outrigger system in high-rise building.

  • It is one of the essential task to determine the absolute location of mobile robot during its navigation. In this paper we propose an algorithm to calculate the distance and orientation of camera from landmark through the visual image of stripe typed landmark. Exact closed form solution of camera location is obtained with the correspondences from vertical line on mark plane to the intersection point of projected line with horizontal axis of image plane. It needs only one line image information, so that location determination can be processed in real time.

  • Recently, indoor LBS has been attracting much attention because of its promising prospect. One of key technologies for its success is indoor location estimation. A popular one for indoor positioning is to find the location based on the strength of received Wi-Fi signals. Since the Wi-Fi services are currently prevalent, it can perform indoor positioning without any further infrastructure. However, it is found that its accuracy depends heavily on the surrounding radio environment. To alleviate this difficulty, we present a novel indoor position technique employing the geomagnetic characteristics as well as Wi-Fi signals. The geomagnetic characteristic is known to vary according to the location. Therefore, employing the geomagnetic signal in addition to Wi-Fi signals is expected to improve the location estimation accuracy.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the differences of visual image by variations in the location and width of the waist band of the one-piece dress. The stimuli are 24 samples: 8 variations of the location of the waist band and 3 variations of the width of the waist band. The data has been obtained from 50 fashion design majors. The data has analyzed by Factor Analysis, Anova, Scheff's Test and the MCA method. The results of the study are as follows. According to the result of factor analysis of the visual image based on the changes in the location and width of waist bands, three factors were identified- attractiveness, elegance and practicality. Among them, attractiveness was found to be the most important. The visual image was evaluated positively when waist bands were positioned above the natural waist line and negatively when waist bands were positioned below the natural waist line regardless of their width. In addition, the visual image based on the width of waist bands for one-piece dress was the most positive when the width was 4.5cm. No significant difference was observed in the visual image according to band width when the waist bands were positioned below the natural waist line. The interaction of visual image according to the location and width of waist bands for one-piece dress did not appear. As the main effect, significant differences were observed in all of the three factors according to the location of waist bands, but only two factors excluding elegance showed some difference according to the width of waist bands. When multiple classification analysis was applied to the factors without interaction, the location of waist bands appeared to have more significant effect on visual image than the width of waist bands.

  • This study deals with an optimal firecar location and allocation models under uncertain enemy attack at the airforce base. It allocates just one firecar on the runaway and the other firecars on the headquarter of firecar company in usual situation. It is possible for several facilities at the airforce base to be attacked simultaneously by missiles enemy air attacker, other things under uncertain enemy attack. We formulate two stochastic LP location-allocation models to deal with uncertainty. One model is to locate all firecars on one site like present situation. We generate a new firecar location with a weighted average method. We call this model "centralized allocation model". The other model is to distribute firecars on several possible sites. We call this model "distributed allcoation model". Finally, we compare two models with computer experimentations on 8 airforce bases.on 8 airforce bases.

  • The physical distribution service(PDS) is essential to evaluate the business logistics system. The PDS combines the inventory service with the lead time to deliver. This paper is presented to model Mixed Zero-One integer programming which is to determine distribution center location and to allocation products, considering delivery lead time, from given candidate locations to given customer markets. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the applicability of Mixed Zero-One integer programming for Distribution-Location problem.

  • The objective of this study is to suggest DARE (Decision Alternative Ratio Evaluation) Method, which is usually using in VE(Value Engineering), as one of the evaluating alternatives techniques, especially deciding location. The process of solving location problem consists of 4 stages which are Data gathering and Confirming check list, Design of evaluating methodology, Evaluating, and Conclusion. In second stage which is the most important one among those, DARE method is adopted to solve location problem as a objective and scientific technique. The members who are participated workshop extremely agree to whole procedure of methodology and also their own conclusion through Workshop. This case study shows DARE method fits with select optimal location.

  • Recently, location systems using RFID technology have been studied in indoor environments. However, the existing techniques require high computational cost to compute the location of a moving object because they compare the location proximity of all reference tags and objects. In this paper, we propose an RFID based location positioning scheme using event filtering, which reduces the computation cost of calculating the locations of moving objects while maintaining the accuracy of location estimation. In addition, we propose an incremental location update policy to reduce the location update cost for moving objects. We also compare the proposed scheme with one of the localization schemes, LANDMARC using a performance evaluation. As a result, the proposed scheme outperforms LANDMARC in terms of the computational cost of location estimation. The proposed scheme also reduces the cost of location update by using the RFID-based update policy.
