  • The purpose of this study is the development of CAM system which can cut and measure any shape by machining center and coordinate measuring machine. The overall goal of the CAM system is to achieve the CNC machining, from digitizing through to final cutting. The hardware of the system comprises PC and machining center, CMM. There are three steps in the CNC machining, (1) workpiece measuring on the CMM, (2) geometric modeling by the CAD system, (3) NC commands generation by the tool path compensated for tool nose radius. It is developed a software package, with which can conduct a micro CAM system in the PC without economical burden.

  • Noncontact measuring methodology of 3-dimensional profile using CCD camera are very attractive because of it's high measuring speed and its's high sensitivity. Especially, when projecting a grid pattern over the object the captured image have 3 dimensional information of the object. Projection moire extract 3-D information with another grid pattern in front of CCD camera. However phase measuring profilometry(PMP) obtain similar results without additional grid pattern. In this paper, new method for grid pattern generation system by polygonal mirror and Laser Diode. This system is applied the projection moire and the PMP.

  • One of the major limitations of productivity and quality in metal cutting is the machining accuracy of machine tools. The machining accuracy is affected by geometric errors, thermally-induced errors, and the deterioration of the machine tools. Geometric and thermal errors of machine tools should be measured and compensated to manufacture high quality products. In metal cutting, the machining accuracy is more affected by thermal errors than by geometric errors. This paper models of the thermal errors for error analysis and develops on-the-machine measurement system by which the volumetric error are measured and compensated. The thermal error is modeled by means of angularity errors of a column and thermal drift error of the spindle unit which are measured by the touch probe unit with a star type styluses and a designed spherical ball artifact (SBA). Experiments, performed with the developed measurement system, show that the system provides a high measuring accuracy, with repeatability of $\pm$2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in X, Y and Z directions. It is believed that the developed measurement system can be also applied to the machine tools with CNC controller. In addition, machining accuracy and product quality can be improved by using the developed measurement system when the spherical ball artifact is mounted on the modular fixture.

  • End milling is available for machining the various shape of products and has been widely applied in many manufacturing industries. The quality of products depends on a machine tool performance and machining conditions. Recognition characteristics of the cutting condition is becoming a critical requirement for improving the utilization and flexibility of present-day CNC machine tools. The measurement of tool wear would be performed by coordinate-measuring machine(CMM). However, the usage of CMM requires much time and cost. In order to overcome the difficulties, on-line measurement(OLM) system was applied for a tool wear measurement. This study shows a reliable technique for the reduction of machining error components by developing a system using a CCD camera and machine vision to be able to precisely measure the size of tool wear in flat end milling for CNC machining. The CCD camera and machine vision attached to a CNC machine can determine tool wear quickly and easily.

  • This paper described about the ultra-precision profile measurement of aspheric surfaces using contact probing technique. A contact probe has been designed as a sensing device to obtain measuring resolutions in nanometer regime utilizing a leaf spring mechanism and a capacitive-type sensor. The contact probe is attached on the z-axis during measurement while aspheric objects are supported on the single point diamond turning machine(SPDTM). The machine xz-axis motions are monitored by a set of two orthogonal plane mirror type laser interferometers. Experimental results show that the contact probing technique developed of On-machine Measurement System in this investigation is capable of providing a repeatability of 20 nanometers with a $\pm$20 uncertainty of 300 nanometers.

  • This paper presents a multiple sensor system for rapid and high-precision coordinate data acquisition in the OMM (On-machine measurement) process. In this research, three sensors (touch probe, laser, and vision sensor) are integrated to obtain more accurate measuring results. The touch-type probe has high accuracy, but is time-consuming. Vision sensor can acquire many point data rapidly over a spatial range but its accuracy is less than other sensors. Also, it is not possible to acquire data for invisible areas. Laser sensor has medium accuracy and measuring speed among the sensors, and can acquire data for sharp or rounded edge and the features with very small holes and/or grooves. However, it has range- constraints to use because of its system structure. In this research, a new optimum sensor integration method for OMM is proposed by integrating the multiple-sensor to accomplish mote effective inspection planning. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulation and experimental works are performed, and the results are analyzed.

  • In hot strip mills, Portable Roll Scanner (the portable roll surface temperature and profile measuring device) can be used to calibrate on-line Process models for strip crown and flatness by measuring the thermal expansion and wear profile of the rolls. And the surface temperature measurement can be used to optimize the roll cooling system. Portable Roll Scanner consists of the measuring device, which has two contact inductive distance transducers for roll profile measurement and one infrared Pyrometer for surface temperature measurement, and computer-based controller that is equipped with the measuring device. By the wireless data communication, the data is transferred to the memory of notebook for further analysis. After roll extraction from mills, Portable Roll Scanner measure the roll profile and surface temperature simultaneously along the work roll face and display the results in the TFT color monitor of notebook. Portable Roll Scanner is useful at mill-side and roll grinding shop.

  • In an effort to reduce the evaluation time of the precision of manufactured disk cams, an effective measuring method with an exclusively built profile-measuring machine and subsequent data analysis procedure is proposed. The design and measuring data are interpolated by cubic spline curves to compute the precision error which is defined by the maximum and minimum distances between two curves. The minimum zone criterion of ISO is employed to evaluate the form error, and genetic algorithm is used to search the orientation and location of design data for the measured data which minimizes the form error. The proposed system was applied to marine engine cams, and it shows that the form error is reduced to 30% down compared with the method which minimizes the form error with the assumption that the centers of measured data design cam curve are identical.

  • An applying Thermodynamic method for the purpose of measuring hydraulic efficiency of pump-motor system, based on IEC60041 code, is not easy to adopt at field test. Even though there were splendid development in measuring technic in discharge measuring through the hydraulic machina lots of unsolved problems concerned in flow-rate are still remain in measuring hydraulic efficiency in hydraulic machine. The key point in measuring hydraulic efficiency is to measure exact flow-rate. So, Thermodynamic methode provides a good solution. This methode measures hydraulic efficiency by detecting the difference of temperature and pressure between the hydraulic process of machine, without measuring flow-rate of pump or turbine. By measuring temperature in mk level and absolute pressure in pascal, we can get a difference of thermodynamic specific energy in Moliere chart before and after of hydraulic process, md that difference is equal to hydraulic loses. Following the standard in proceeding Thermodynamic methode, I hope these trial and records make others be familiar to the thermal methode and make it easer to beginner for trial.
