  • This paper presents a coplanar waveguide fed L-planar type monopole antenna which covers ultra wideband(UWB) region of 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz. The proposed UWB L-planar type monopole antenna is designed and implemented on the organic substrates( ${\varepsilon}_{r}=3.38,\;@10\;GHz$). The radiation elements, feed line, and ground planes of the antenna are printed on the same conductive layer of the substrates. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna is measured in the range of 3.0 GHz to 11.0 GHz. The measured radiation patterns are symmetrical in E-plane and omni-directional in H-plane. Antenna gains ranges from 1.4 dBi to 4.6 dBi. The proposed UWB antenna shows that the structure is adequate for the design of RFIC.

  • In this paper, the antenna radiation pattern inside the vehicle is presented for observing the change occurring in non-anechoic environment using monopole antenna. The environment for radio communication can be affected by antenna characteristic variation inside the small space existing multi reflection waves. To perform simulation and measurement about antenna radiation pattern, the radio frequency bands for GPS and Wibro services expected to use inside the vehicle is selected. The simulation is based on the ray-tracing method and the radiation pattern is measured inside the vehicle and in free space using monopole antenna having those frequency bands. In accordance with the measurement and simulation results, when two antennas are put inside the vehicle, the omni-directional characteristic of the antenna is maintained but the received power is increased than free space case and the difference between the each case of measurements is increased as the operating frequency is increased.

  • In this paper we propose two types of reconfigurable 3-D beam steering antenna for intelligent or smart antenna system. Proposed antennas are composed of triangular(structure1.) or circuler(structure2.) loop structure and bended dipole antenna structure. This antenna can steer beam pattern of 6 direction at xy-plane state (0, 1, 2) and xz-plane state (3, 4, 5) by 4 switch motion with one antenna element. Antenna structure1. is symmetric equilibrium structures based on feeding point. There is no grounding point. As a result, designed antenna's gain is similar to dipole antenna. Also, As unbalanced structure by using CPWG in the form of a semicircular, structure2. is enhanced directivity. The operation frequency of antenna are 2.5 GHz(Structure1.) and 2.55 GHz(Structure2.), maximum gain is 1.04 ~ 2.06 dBi(Structure1. : Omni-directional beam), 1.6 ~ 4 dBi(structure2. : Directional beam). The overall HPBW is about over $160^{\circ}$ in the both of the xy-plane and xz-plane at structure1. and over $125^{\circ}$ at structure2.

  • In this paper, a design method for a compact slot antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is studied. A T-shaped tuning stub is inserted inside a narrow rectangular slot and the slot is impedance matched to the CPW feedline by adjusting the width, length, and position of the stub. The resonance frequency is adjustable by the slot length and the antenna size can be reduced by bending the slot. The resonance frequency and impedance matching property of the compact slot antenna are similar to those of the half-wavelength slot antenna, which enables one to design compact antenna of this type with ease. A compact slot antenna for 2.45-GHz ISM band is designed, fabricated on an FR4 substrate (dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 0.8 mm), and experimentally tested. The measured results agree well with the simulations, which confirms the validity of this study. The fabricated compact slot antenna shows an impedance bandwidth of 200 MHz(2.32-2.52 GHz) for a VSWR < 2, which is suitable for 2.45-GHz ISM band (2.4-2.48 GHz). The measured radiation patterns show ${\infty}$-shaped directional pattern in the E-plane and nearly omni-directional pattern in the H-plane with a peak gain of 2.0 dBi, which are similar to those of a monopole antenna. The proposed antenna is expected to be suitable for the applications as antennas for WLAN, RFID, and mobile handset.

  • Throughput scaling laws for two coexisting ad hoc networks with m primary users (PUs) and n secondary users (SUs) randomly distributed in an unit area have been widely studied. Early work showed that the secondary network performs as well as stand-alone networks, namely, the per-node throughput of the secondary networks is ${\Theta}(1/\sqrt{n{\log}n})$. In this paper, we show that by exploiting directional spectrum opportunities in secondary network, the throughput of secondary network can be improved. If the beamwidth of secondary transmitter (TX)'s main lobe is ${\delta}=o(1/{\log}n)$, SUs can achieve a per-node throughput of ${\Theta}(1/\sqrt{n{\log}n})$ for directional transmission and omni reception (DTOR), which is ${\Theta}({\log}n)$ times higher than the throughput with-out directional transmission. On the contrary, if ${\delta}={\omega}(1/{\log}n)$, the throughput gain of SUs is $2{\pi}/{\delta}$ for DTOR compared with the throughput without directional antennas. Similarly, we have derived the throughput for other cases of directional transmission. The connectivity is another critical metric to evaluate the performance of random ad hoc networks. The relation between the number of SUs n and the number of PUs m is assumed to be $n=m^{\beta}$. We show that with the HDP-VDP routing scheme, which is widely employed in the analysis of throughput scaling laws of ad hoc networks, the connectivity of a single SU can be guaranteed when ${\beta}$ > 1, and the connectivity of a single secondary path can be guaranteed when ${\beta}$ > 2. While circumventing routing can improve the connectivity of cognitive radio ad hoc network, we verify that the connectivity of a single SU as well as a single secondary path can be guaranteed when ${\beta}$ > 1. Thus, to achieve the connectivity of secondary networks, the density of SUs should be (asymptotically) bigger than that of PUs.
