Research into Head-body Thermal Bending for High-accuracy Thermal Error Compensation (고정도 열변위보정을 위한 주축대의 열적굽힘에 대한 연구)

  • Machine tools are engineered to give high dimensional accuracy in machining operation. However, errors due to thermal effects degrade dimensional accuracy of machine tools considerably, and many machine tools are equipped with thermal error compensation function. In general, thermal errors can be generated in the angular directions as well as linear directions. Among them, thermal errors in the angular directions contribute a large amount of error components in the presence of offset distance as in the case of Abbe error. Because most of thermal error compensation function is based on a good correlation between temperature change and thermal deformation, angular thermal deformation is often to be the most difficult hurdle for enhancing compensation accuracy. In this regard, this paper investigates the effect of thermal bending to total thermal error and gives how to deal with thermally induced bending effects in thermal error compensation.

  • This paper proposes the algorithm for tracking of the residual phase errors incurred by carrier frequency offset and sampling frequency offset in the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems which are suitable for high data rate wireless communications. In the OFDM systems the subcarriers which are orthogonal to each other are modulated by digital data and transmitted simultaneously. The carrier frequency offset causes degradation of signal to noise ratio(SNR) performance and interference between the adjacent subcarriers. The errors in the sampling timing caused by the sampling frequency difference between the transmitter and the receiver sides also cause a major performance degradation in the OFDM systems. The residual error tracking and compensation mechanism is essential in the OFDM system since the carrier and the sampling frequency offset cause the loss of orthogonality resulting in the system performance loss. This paper proposes the scheme where the channel gain and the payload data information are reflected in the residual error tracking process which results in the reduction of the estimation error and the tracking performance improvements under the frequency selective fading wireless channels.

Low Complexity Frequency Offset Estimation Using Partial Correlation (부분상관을 이용한 저 복잡도의 주파수 오차 추정기법)

  • In wireless communication systems, a frequency offset exist at the received signal due to the transmitter-receiver oscillator mismatch and Doppler effect in mobile environments. Those offsets rotate the received signal's phase and degrade the receiver performance. Hence, estimation and compensation of the frequency offset is crucial at the receiver. This paper proposes a new frequency offset estimation technique based on partial correlation. The proposed method requires less computational complexity than that of the conventional method. In addition, since the proposed one can estimate a wide range of frequency offset without estimation accuracy loss, the application of the method is desirable for the communication environments that have a large frequency offset. In order to verify the performance of our proposed scheme, a series of computer simulations have been carried out and compared against those of the conventional method.

  • In the impulse radio ultra-wideband communication systems, the residual timing offset exists when the acquisition and tracking of the timing synchronization is well done. And the offset affects the performance of the system dramatically. In order to compensate the offset, we present the digital phase-locked loop that uses the reference signal in the correlation detection receiver. First, we show the degradation of BER performance that is caused by the offset, and then compensation process of the timing tracker and performance improvement. In this paper, the timing detector in the tracker operates at the sampling period of frame level uses the correlation between received and reference signal. Also, we present the performance comparison by using the computer simulation results for different Gaussian monocycle pulses.

Intra Prediction Offset Compensation for Improving Video Coding Efficiency (영상 부호화 효율 향상을 위한 화면내 예측 오프셋 보상)

  • In this paper, an intra prediction offset compensation method is proposed to improve intra prediction in H.264/AVC. In H.264/AVC, intra prediction based on various directions improves the coding efficiency by removing spatial correlation between neighboring blocks. In details, neighboring pixels in reconstructed block can be used as intra reference block for the current block to be coded when intra prediction method is used. In order to reduce further the prediction error of the intra reference block, the proposed method introduces an intra prediction offset which is determined in the sense of the rate-distortion optimization and is added to the conventional intra prediction block. Besides the intra prediction offset compensation, the coefficient thresholding method which is used for inter coding in JM 11.0, is used for chroma component in intra block, which leads the improvement of the luma coding efficiency of the proposed method. In experiments, we show that the proposed method achieves average 2.45% in High Profile condition and maximum 4.41% of bitrate reduction relative to JM 11.0.

An Implementation Method of Frequency Offset Synchronization Using Compact CORDIC for OFDM Systems (OFDM 시스템에서 Compact CORDIC을 이용한 주파수 오프셋 동기화 구현 기법)

  • In this letter, we propose a compact CORDIC processor for implementation of carrier frequency synchronization block in an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system. The compact CORDIC processor is proposed by using inherenct properties of an OFDM system for estimation and compensation of carrier frequency offset, and is composed of a compact CORDIC preprocessor and a compact CORDIC processor. The compact CORDIC preprocessor plays a role of normalizing input signal efficiently, and the compact CORDIC processor is proposed to perform the vectoring mode and rotational mode jointly in CORDIC operation for carrier frequency synchronization. It is shown by FPGA implementation that the proposed compact CORDIC processor can achieve better performance with a significantly reduced hardware complexity than the conventional CORDIC approach.

  • In this paper, Method for the phase distortion compensation timing offset and DC eliminator for the pilot component estimation and removal, transmitted and received signal correlation in the delay scheme DAB interference cancellation based on the same channel for using for estimating the feedback signal based on a between for removal for the timing offset compensation It proposes a repeater. This was applied to the ATSC system. The on-channel repeater of the proposed interference cancellation based on the interference removing capability is improved in interference signal is 20dB greater than the primary transmission signal environment via the return channel estimation and improve performance RFP. Accordingly, it was confirmed by simulation that good signal is sent out with the improvement of the ability of the repeater.

  • In this paper, a method and system to compensate vertical component of 3-dimensional magnetic field sensor using the earth's field was described. Output of magnetic field sensor have a output offset that is generated setting angle error of magnetic sensor and gain error. Thus, to using the magnetic field sensor, it must be compensated. The compensation of magnetic field sensor is required at shield space. However, using the earth's field, output offset of the sensor can be simply compensated. And, we designed system for compensation of the sensor. The proposed method and system are verified usefulness through experimental.

  • This paper describes a modeling and current control techniques of Distribution static condenser (D-STATCON) for power factor compensation. The current control is based on the predictive and the space vector PWM scheme. The predictive current controlled PWM D-STATCON can maintain its performance with power factor compensation and fixed switching frequency. By using the space vector control low ripple and offset in the current and the voltage as well as fast dynamic responses are achieved with a small DC link capacitance employed.
