Improvement of Phase Noise Characteristics for Tuning Voltage in Voltage Controlled Oscillator using Coupled Microstrip Lines (결합 마이크로스트립 라인을 이용한 전압제어 발진기의 동조전압에 따른 위상잡음 특성 개선)

  • Improvement of phase noise characteristics in a different approach of HEMT VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) with coupled microstrip lines to tune the oscillating frequency is investigated. Two HEMT VCOs of 9.8GHz are manufactured in the same configuration except for the frequency tuning circuit in order to empirically demonstrate the phase noise reduction. Experimental result shows that phase noise reduction can be enhanced 8dBc/Hz at 100KHz offset frequency from carrier by frequency tuning circuit with coupled microstrip lines over the conventional VCO.

A Design of Push-push Voltage Controlled Oscillator using Frequency Tuning Circuit with Single Transmission Line (단일 전송선로의 주파수 동조회로를 이용한 push-push 전압제어 발진기의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, a push-push VCDRO (Voltage Controlled Dielectric Resonator Oscillator) with a modified frequency tuning structure is investigated. The push-push VCDRO designed at 16GHz is manufactured using a LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic) technology to reduce the circuit size. The frequency tuning structure is embedded in intermediate layer of A6 substrate by an advantage of LTCC process. Experimental results show that the fundamental frequency suppression is above 30dBc, the frequency tuning range is 0.43MHz over control voltage of 0 to 12V, and phase noise of push-push VCDRO presents a good performance of -103dBc/Hz at 100KHz offset frequency from carrier.

  • In this paper, a design of low power Current-Reuse Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) which has wide tuning range about 1.95 GHz ~ 3.15 GHz is presented. Class-C type is applied to improve phase noise and 2-Step Auto Amplitude Calibration (AAC) is used for minimizing the imbalance of differential VCO output voltage which is main issue of Current-Reuse VCO. The mismatch of differential VCO output voltage is presented about 1.5mV ~ 4.5mV. This mismatch is within 0.6 % compared with VCO output voltage. Proposed Current-Reuse VCO is designed using CMOS $0.13{\mu}m$ process. Supply voltage is 1.2 V and current consumption is 2.6 mA at center frequency. The phase noise is -116.267 dBc/Hz at 2.3GHz VCO frequency at 1MHz offset. The layout size is $720{\times}580{\mu}m^2$.

  • A CMOS rail-to-rail high voltage buffer amplifier is proposed to drive the gamma correction reference voltage of large TFT LCD panels. It is operating by a single supply and only shows current consumption of 0.5mA at 18V power supply voltage. The circuit is designed to drive the gamma correction voltage of 8-bit or 10-bit high resolution TFT LCD panels. The buffer has high slew rate, 0.5mA static current and 1k$\Omega$ resistive and capacitive load driving capability. Also, it offers wide supply range, offset voltages below 50mV at 5mA constant output current, and below 2.5mV input referred offset voltage. To achieve wide-swing input and output dynamic range, current mirrored n-channel differential amplifier, p-channel differential amplifier, a class-AB push-pull output stage and a input level detector using hysteresis comparator are applied. The proposed circuit is realized in a high voltage 0.18um 18V CMOS process technology for display driver IC. The circuit operates at supply voltages from 8V to 18V.

  • Linear compressors with a free piston driven by a linear motor are widely attention in the cooling apparatus such as refrigerator due to the high efficiency The stroke of piston in the linear compressor driven by LPMSM (Linear Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motor) can be obtained from Integrating the input voltage and current of LPMSM, but it may be diverged due to dc components in the voltage and current. The strategy to prevent the divergence of stroke using both the high-pass filter and do offset compensation was suggested. The equations for the magnitude and phase of the stroke and also dc offset including the stroke are derived as a function of the cut-off frequency of HPF. The accurate stroke of a piston can be calculated by compensating for dc offset. The performance of the newly developed stroke calculation scheme has been verified by experimentally on a linear compressor drive system, where the control was implemented by a 16-bit DSP.

  • In this paper, we design and fabricate an instantaneous frequency measurement receiver with a frequency resolution of 125 MHz which detects and measures continuous signals in 4~6 GHz using path difference of delay lines. The receiver has a 4-bit configuration and consists of power dividers, delay lines, power combiners, power detectors, voltage comparator circuits and so on. The accuracy of the instantaneous frequency measurement is improved by applying offset voltage compensation to the comparator circuits to compensate the frequency-dependent path loss of the delay line and the frequency dependence of power detection.

  • Since most reference voltage generator circuits have bi-stable characteristics, it is important to employ a proper start-up circuit to operate a reference generator in the desired state. In this paper, we propose a start-up circuit for a low voltage reference generator. This start-up circuit determines the state of the circuit reliably by measuring the current drawn by BJTs in the circuit, which is well-defined in the desired state. To measure the current using CMOS-compatible devices only, a comparator with an internal offset voltage is used. The reliability of the proposed circuit is confirmed by Monte-Carlo simulations of the start-up operation, which show that, with the proposed start-up circuit, the low voltage reference generator starts reliably with supply voltages over 850mV even in the presence of device mismatches.

  • 본 논문에서는 넓은 영전압 스위칭 범위와 작은 DC 오프셋 전류를 가지는 비대칭 하프-브릿지 컨버터를 제안한다. 기존의 비대칭 하프-브릿지 컨버터는 설계 시 홀드업 시간 만족을 위하여 정상 상태에서 극심한 비대칭 동작을 하게 된다. 이는 변압기의 큰 DC 오프셋 전류, 비대칭 전류 스트레스 등의 문제를 야기하며 이로 인하여 전반적인 변환 효율이 감소하게 된다. 이러한 문제점들을 해결하기 위하여, 제안하는 컨버터는 정상 상태에서 비대칭 동작을 최소화하고 낮은 입력전압에서 추가 스위치를 동작시킴으로써 커뮤테이션 구간을 줄여 전압이득을 높인다. 또한 추가 인덕턴스를 사용하여 영전압 스위칭 에너지를 키우고 추가 스위치의 내부 바디 다이오드를 이용하여 2차측 정류단의 전압 스트레스를 줄인다. 이를 통하여 높은 효율을 가지면서 작은 DC 오프셋 전류를 가지는 비대칭 하프-브릿지 컨버터를 제안하였으며, 500W의 프로토타입 컨버터를 제작하고 실험을 통해 이를 검증하였다.

  • 본 논문은 Ku-band(12.4-18 GHz) 위성통신 시스템 및 이동통신 중계기용 송수신부에 사용되는 고안정도 전압제어 유전체 공진기(Voltage Controlled Dieletric Resonator Oscillator)의 설계 및 제작에 대해 논하였다. 유전체 공진기(Dielectric Resonator)의 등가회로 모델을 이용하여 유전체 공진 발진기(Dielectric Resonator Oscillator)를 설계 알고리즘화 하였다. 유전체 공진 발진기와 바렉터 다이오드를 이용하여 13.4 GHz의 전압 제어 유전체 공진 발진기를 제작하였다. 이때의 출력 전력은 +12dBm이고 위상잡음은 offset 주파수 100kHz에서 -105 dBc/Hz로 측정되었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 단일 2-level 3-leg 전압형 인버터를 사용하여 직렬 연결된 3상 및 단상 표면부착형 영구자석 동기전동기(SPMSM)를 가변속 운전하는 기법을 제안한다. 일반적으로 두 영구자석 동기전동기를 독립적으로 가변속 운전하기 위해서는 각각의 인버터가 필요하지만, 본 논문은 옵셋(Offset) 전압을 사용한 전압 펄스 폭 변조(PWM) 방식으로 인버터를 제어하여 단일 인버터를 사용한 3상 및 단상 전동기 동시 운전이 가능하다. 제안된 방식은 전력용 반도체 소자 수를 줄여 전동기 구동시스템의 가격을 절감시킬 수 있으며, PLECS 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안된 토폴로지의 유효성을 검증하였다.
