Optimal Excitation Angles of a Switched Reluctance Generator for Maximum Output Power

  • This paper investigates the optimal values of turn-on and turn-off angles, and ratio of flux linkage at turn-off angle and peak phase current positions of optimal control for accomplishing maximum output power in an 8/6 Switched Reluctance Generator (8/6 SRG). Phase current waveform is analyzed to determine optimal excitation angles (optimal turn-on and turn-off angles) of the SRG for maximum output power which is applied from a nonlinear magnetization curve in terms of control variables (dc bus voltage, shaft speed, and excitation angles). The optimal excitation angles in single pulse mode of operation are proposed via the analytical model. Simulated and experimental results have verified the accuracy of the analytical model.

  • SRM의 토크는 상전류와 인덕턱스의 기울기에 따라 달라진다. 그러나 자기회로의 포화로 인하여 원하는 토크를 제어하기 어렵다. 원하는 토크를 발생시키기 위해 SRM 드라이브는 스위치-온각, 스위치-오프각 그리고 인가 접압에 의해 제어된다. 스위치-온, 오프 각 에의해 원하는 전류와 토크를 제어할수있다. 본 논문은 스위치 온, 오프각을 제어하는 최적제어방식을 제안하였다. 스위치 오프 각은 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통하여 효율을 기준으로 결정하였으며, 스위치 온각은 부하에 의해 결정되었다. 도통각은 토크제어와 속도제어를 위해 GA-신경회로망을 이용하여 제어하였다.

The effects of the angles of the knee and heel-off on the muscle activity during a bridge exercise

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the angles of the knee and heel-off on the muscle activity during a bridge exercise. METHODS: 15 healthy adult men and women with the balance ability and joint working range required for performing a bridge exercise participated in this study, in which $120^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ angles of the knee-flexion and heel-off were applied during the bridge exercise. RESULTS: Our data showed that there were significant differences in muscle activities of elector spinae and rectus abdominis when $120^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ angles of the knee were applied, of internal oblique when $120^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ were applied, and external oblique when $90^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ were applied. When heel-off was applied, there were significant differences in muscle activities of elector spinae and rectus abdominis when $120^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ were applied, of internal oblique when $120^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ were applied, and external oblique when $90^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ were applied. CONCLUSION: In this study on an application of heel-off to the bridge exercise, we showed that the effect of the angles of the knee on the muscle activities of elector spinae, rectus abdominis, internal oblique and external oblique were all similar to the regular bridge exercise, but overall muscle activities were increased with heel-off when compared with the regular bridge exercise.

간단한 손실모델을 이용한 단단축류압축기 탈설계점 성능예측 (Off-Design Performance Prediction of an Axial Flow Compressor Stage Using Simple Loss Correlations)

  • Total pressure losses required to calculate the total-to-total efficiency are estimated by integrating empirical loss coefficients of four loss mechanisms along the mean-line of blades as follows; blade profile loss, secondary flow loss, end wall loss and tip clearance loss. The off-design points are obtained on the basis of Howell's off-design performance of a compressor cascade. Also, inlet-outlet air angles and camber angle are obtained from semi-empirical relations of transonic airfoils' minimum loss incidence and deviation angles. And nominal point is replaced by the design point. It is concluded that relatively simple loss models and Howell's off-design data permit us to calculate the off-design performance with satisfactory accuracy. And this method can be easily extended for off-design performance prediction of multi-stage compressors.

  • Polymeric composites exhibit highly nonlinear and rate dependent behavior during loading and unloading in off-axis directions. The equilibrium state of stress during loading is lower than the state of stress produced at finite strain rates. The amount of stress relaxation during loading decreases. Interestingly, however, the stress goes up to reach to the equilibrium state of stress for a fixed displacement during unloading. The unloading behavior is quite similar to the loading behavior. The stress relaxation patterns during loading and unloading is also similar, and those depend on the fiber orientation angles and the loading and unloading rates. The AS4/PEEK thermoplastic composite is used to characterize the relaxation behavior for different off-axis angles and loading rates. There exists a transient loading region at the beginning of unloading. The effective stress and effective plastic strain concept is used to establish a master curve of stress recovery pattern for different off-axis angles and unloading rates.

  • This paper describes a control method of turn-on/off angles to improve the efficiency of the switched reluctance generator(SRG) with a power closed-loop control system, and the inner-loop of the system is current hysteresis control. The SRG control system is constituted by the PI power controller and the two-level current hysteresis controller. By measuring and analyzing the system losses of different reference powers, speeds and turn-on/off angles, selection strategy of optimal turn-on/off angles is discussed. The proposed method is simple, reliable, and easy to achieve.

  • A SRG (Switched Reluctance Generator) has many advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, high-speed capability and robustness compared with other of machine. But the control methods that have been adopted for SRGs are complicated. This paper proposes a simple control method using the PID controller which only controls turn-off angles while keeping turn-on angles of SRG constant. In order to keep the output voltage constant, the turn-off angle for load variations is controlled by using linearity between the generated current and turn-off angle since the reference generated current can be led through the voltage errors between the reference and the actual voltage. The suggested control method enhances the robustness of this system and simplifies the hardware and software by using only the voltage and the speed sensors. The proposed method is verified by experiments.

  • Inherent speed-torque performance of Switched Reluctance Motor is similar to that of series wound DC motor. Thus, the speed of the motor is extremely regulated according to load torque. For the purpose of controlling the speed and torque of SRM it is necessary to change the applied DC link voltage or the switch-ON and switch-OFF angles which control the phase current of the motor. This paper describes speed-torque characteristics of an integral horse power Switched Reluctance Motor by adjusting the switch-ON and switch-OFF angles. Speed at rated load torque can be regulated by adjusting the switching angles and the control scheme is applied to 2kW, 3 phase, 6/4 SRM.

However, the control methods that have been adopted for SRGs are complicated. This paper proposes a simple control method using PID controller that only controls turn-off angles while keeping turn-on angles of SRG constant. The linear characteristics between the generated current and the turn-off angle can be used to control the turn-off angle for load variations. Since the reference current for generation can be produced from an error between the reference and the real voltage, it can be controlled to keep the output voltage constant. The proposed method is verified by experimental results.

Structural, Electrical and Optical Properties of ZnO Thin Films Grown at Various Plume-Substrate Angles by Pulsed Laser Deposition

  • ZnO thin films were grown at different plume-substrate (P-S) angles of 90$^{\circ}$ (on-axis PLD), 45$^{\circ}$ and 0$^{\circ}$ (off-axis PLD) using pulsed laser deposition. The x-ray diffraction pattern exhibiting a dominant (002) and a minor (101) peak of ZnO indicates all films were strongly c-axis oriented. By observing of (002) peak, the FWHMs of ZnO (002) peaks decreased and c-axis lattice constant approached the value of bulk ZnO as P-S angle decreased. Whereas the carrier concentration of ZnO thin film deposited at P-S angle of 90$^{\circ}$ was ~ 10$^{19}$ /cm$^{3}$, the Hall measurement of ZnO thin films deposited at P-S angles of 0$^{\circ}$ and 45$^{\circ}$ was impossible due to the decrease of the carrier concentration by the improvement of stoichiometry and crystalline quality. By decreasing P-S angle, the grain size of the films and the UV intensity investigated by photoluminescence (PL) increased and UV peak position showed red shift. The improvement of properties in ZnO thin films deposited by off-axis technique was due to the decrease of repulsive force between a substrate and the particle in plume and the relaxation of supersaturation.
