Fe-Ti ore bodies and mafic granulite occur in the Sancheong anorthosites, south Korea. In order to determine their petrogenetic relationship and to classify the Fe-Ti ore bodies, we have synthetically analyzed characteristics in the field, such as distribution and occurrence, and petrologic features through detailed outcrop sketches. The ore bodies are divided into the regular vein dike- and irregular veinlet swarm types, according to their characteristics of contact with the anorthosites and internal structures. The former shows the tabularly intrusive contact and the pervasively ductile-sheared interior, while the latter, the irregularly tortuous contact and the almost intact interior. Most of the ore bodies are cross-cutting the foliation of the anorthosites and possess abundant anorthositic xenoliths, indicating their intrusion after the formation of foliation in the anorthosites. The mafic granulite, also bearing abundant anorthositic xenoliths, shows interior foliations nearly parallel to intrusion contact, and has abundant ilmenites approximately the same as those of the Fe-Ti ore bodies in chemical composition. And its intrusion into adjacent anorthosites is observed and the intrusion is finally changed into an irregular veinlet swarm type ore body. It is, thus, interpreted that the granulite in the study area was the host material of Fe-Ti ore bodies.
The experiment was conducted to obtain basic information on weed ecology and effective weed control in direct-seeded rice Gelds at National Yeongnam Agricultural Experiment Station in 1994. Double cropping system of rice-barley reduced weed occurrence about 30% as compared with rice single cropping due to allelopathic effect of barley residue or stubble. Occurrences of red rice (weedy rice), barnyard grass and water foxtail were closely related with tillage method; the greatest occurred in no tillage plot followed by rotavation only and plow plus rotavation. Period of seed germination of barnyard grass and carbgrass varied with temperature and soil depth. In the same environmental condition, the germination period of barnyard grass shortened 3 to 5 days as compared with that of carbgrass. Two systematic applications of herbicides, that is, the first application at 10 to 15 days after seeding and the second at just after flooding, were the most recommendable system in dry-seeded rice field in terms of weed suppression and yield capacity.
In Gaya area, the Boseong kaolin deposits exhibit locally unusual occurrences such as downward enrichment of kaoin minerals, characteristic hydrothermal alterations (illite and stilbite), and phase relations among kaolin minerals in addition to the extensive weathering of anorthositic country rocks. This indicates that the kaolin deposits seem to be genetically formed as a mixed hydrothermal and residual model. The kaolin ores can be divided into five types on the basis of differences in occurrence, mineral composition and characters. These consist of two types of high-grade ores ranging above 80% in grade and low-grade ores as low as less than 80% including feldspar residuals or the peculiar impurity phase of illite-vermiculite-stilbite. Halloysite and kaolinite are mostly coexisted in the Boseong kaolin, and these kaolin minerals exhibit diverse appearances in crystallinity and morphology. Such a diversity in mineral phase and crystallinity seems to be originated from the complexity in genesis. In addition to these diverse characters of the kaolin, its applied-mineralogical characteristics such as chemical composition, thermal properties, whiteness, viscosity, and etc. made it disadvantageous in terms of ore quality.

This study is analyzed the correlation between El-Nino and La-Nina and Korea's temperature and precipitation in summer and winter, and the results of this analysis are as follows: (1) The extraction of the occurrences of El-Nino reveals are 5, but La-Nina reveals 6 years. (2) The tendency of change of sea surface temperature around NINO.3 and that of or country are about the same, but the anomaly of Janggi and Pusan was much greater than that of Inchon. (3) The anomaly of sea surface temperature around NINO.3 and that of the temperature showed the similar changing tendency, the temperature of Korea has something to do with that of NINO.3sea surface temperature as the correlation of ground temperature with the temperature of sea surface showed 0.06. Anomaly warm winter has something to do with El-Nino because the temperature of our country was high when El-Nino phenomena appeared. But the precipitation over our country is not significant for La-Nina. (4) Temperature in El-Nino year is lower than normal in summer and higher than normal in winter. But precipitation is more in summer and winter of El-Nino year, but it is not significant of La-Nina year.
The patternless potteries excavated from the Baekseokdong Gojaemigol site in Cheonan, was subdivided into talc and non-talc (including amphibole) type pottery. The potteries showed black, reddish brown and yellowish brown colors, but represent to difference with occurrences and internal texture of raw materials and temper minerals. The all potteries and paleosoils are commonly high content of temper minerals with poorly sorting and roundness of particles, and the paleosoils composed mainly of quartz, plagioclase, mica, chlorite and kaolinite. Between the talc and non-talc type potteries are very similar with magnetic susceptibility, absorption ratio and specific gravity. Geochemical behaviors of major, minor, compatible and incompatible elements in talc pottery are very similar with amphibole, non-talc pottery and paleosoils, and well correspondence with enrichment and deficiency patterns of each element, and the talc and amphibole potteries are highly enriched patterns of MgO concentration. In paleosoils of Gojaemigol site, talc and amphibole are not detected, therefore, making the pottery of the site estimate the possible to artificial additions of the temper minerals of talc and amphibole used interbedded talc layer within gneiss complex near the Baekseokdong area. Based on the phase relations, differential thermal and thermal gravimetric analyses, the potteries could be classified into two groups by firing temperature. The one group of talc temper pottery fired from 800 to $870^{\circ}C$ and the other group of amphibole and non-talc temper pottery revealed of 900 to $950^{\circ}C$.

In order to reduce damage from farmland inundation caused by recent climate change, it is necessary to predict the risk of farmland inundation accurately. Inundation modeling should be performed by considering multiple time distributions of possible rainfalls, as digital forecasts of Korea Meteorological Administration is provided on a six-hour basis. As building multiple inputs and creating inundation models take a lot of time, it is necessary to shorten the forecast time by building a data base (DB) of farmland inundation probability. Therefore, the objective of this study is to establish a DB of farmland inundation probability in accordance with forecasted rainfalls. In this study, historical data of the digital forecasts was collected and used for time division. Inundation modeling was performed 100 times for each rainfall event. Time disaggregation of forecasted rainfall was performed by applying the Multiplicative Random Cascade (MRC) model, which uses consistency of fractal characteristics to six-hour rainfall data. To analyze the inundation of farmland, the river level was simulated using the Hydrologic Engineering Center - River Analysis System (HEC-RAS). The level of farmland was calculated by applying a simulation technique based on the water balance equation. The inundation probability was calculated by extracting the number of inundation occurrences out of the total number of simulations, and the results were stored in the DB of farmland inundation probability. The results of this study can be used to quickly predict the risk of farmland inundation, and to prepare measures to reduce damage from inundation.

There are difficulties in removing wood tar wastewater coming from the power plants that use wood-based fuels due to its intermittent occurrences and severe changes in the amount and concentration. This study investigated the treatment characteristics through physicochemical treatment, an improved method from the existing ones using bag filters and activated carbons to treat wood tar wastewater. In the case of chemical properties of wood tar wastewater, the content of phenols was found to be more than two times higher than that of guaiacols and carbohydrates. Installation is done to ensure that NaOH and PAC are injected automatically according to the change of pH, and then pH, turbidity and SS of the final treated water were examined. The results were 5.9, 12.6 NTU and 15.1 mg/L respectively, which confirmed the possibility of the treated water as circulation water of power plants. In the physical treatment process using a conventional bag filter, removal efficiency of chemicals was about 20%, but the treatment efficiency was improved to show chemical removal efficiency of about 80% through flocculation and sedimentation.
Since Tongil has been cultivated widely in farmers' fields, the variety is known to be highly resistant to existing races of Pyricularia oryzae in Korea. However, Tongil and the sister lines were moderately susceptible to race IA-65, which was isolated from Tongil at the blast nursery of the College of Agriculture, Seoul National University, 1972. In field tests of 1973, pathogenic reactions of IR lines at the isolated nursery, where IA-65 had been inoculated, were significantly higher than those at the farm nursery. When seedlings of 196 IR lines were inoculated with IA65, about $30\%$ of the IR lines including IR667-98 were moderately susceptible. Among the 30 isolates of P. oryzae obtained mostly from indicas, 12 were also differentiated in 1973 as IA group known to be the most prevalent races at IRRI in the Philippines, where Tongil has been highly susceptible. This IA group was also pathogenic to Tongil in greenhouse experiments. The race group causing moderately susceptible to Tongil should be new in Korea, since no occurrences of the race IA have ever been reported previously from the areas where japonica types of rice are cultivated. Because some races of P. oryzae present in Korea are pathogenic to Tongil and because these races may become prevalent in the fields, the reaction of Tongil must be continuously monitored.
