Methods: The research was conducted from November 1 to December 30, 2006, with a survey of 310 nurses and 240 patients at eight tertiary hospitals in Seoul. Data were collected according to the level of nurse manpower from the first (a nurse vs. patient ratio of below 2.0) to the sixth (a ratio of over 4.0) rank. The survey tools were used Park-Yoon's job satisfaction (1992) and Wandelt and Ager (1974)'s patient satisfaction. The acquired data were analyzed with SPSS $PC^+$ 12.0 program using descriptive methods, ${\chi}^2$ test, ANCOVA, and Scheffe. Results: Overall job satisfaction of nurses showed 3.10 and patient satisfaction of patients showed 4.15. Analysis based on the level of nurse manpower showed that hospitals of first and second rank had higher scores than those of lower rank for nurse's job satisfaction and patient satisfaction. Conclusion: Hospitals with a higher level of nurse manpower showed higher score of nurse's job satisfaction and patient satisfaction.

Method: The study sample was 105 acute general hospitals which had reported the bed size and number of nurses by the nursing units. Number of bed per nurse was analysed by the hospital characteristics and the staffing levels of the doctors and the nursing assistant personnels using t-test or ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. Results: Number of bed per nurse was 3.86 in general nursing units and 0.95 in ICU. Tertiary hospitals employed more nurses in general nursing units and ICU than general hospitals. Hospitals located in Seoul and public hospitals employed more ICU nurses. OR nurse staffing level was higher in academic hospitals. Hospital size was positively correlated with nurse staffing level of the general nursing unit, ICU, ER and OR respectively. Total nurse staffing level of the hospital was positively correlated with doctor and nursing assistant personnels staffing levels. Conclusion : Differentiated nursing fee schedule was needed to implement in ER or OR. Regulation policy should be needed for the hospitals which violated hospital nurse staffing level of the law.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to explore the distributions of nurse staffing grades and to report changes in staffing grades in general wards and adult and neonatal intensive care units(ICUs) by hospital type and location. Methods: Data collected from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service were analyzed. Nurse staffing was categorized from grades 1 to 6 or 7 for general wards, 1 to 9 for adult ICUs, and 1 to 4 for neonatal ICUs based on the nurse-to-bed ratio. Results: The staffing grade for the general wards improved during 2008-2016 in 69.8% of the tertiary hospitals, 58.5% of the general hospitals, and 31.7% of the non-general hospitals. The adult ICUs at tertiary hospitals exhibited a greater improvement in staffing grades (48.8%) than did those of general hospitals (44.2%) during 2008-2015. Tertiary hospitals in non-capital regions showed a greater improvement than those in the capital region. The majority of neonatal ICUs (67.1%) had no change in the staffing grade during 2008-2015. Conclusion: Improvements in nurse staffing differed by hospital type and location. Government policies to improve nurse staffing in non-tertiary hospitals and those in non-capital regions are required to reduce variations in nurse staffing.

After the clinical experience, the score on the image of the nurse was still the highest in the professional dimension, but this time, it was followed by personal, traditional and social dimension in that order. 2) Difference in the image of the nurse before and after the clinical experience showed statistical significance. The factors influencing this change were the degree of satisfaction with their major, whether the students had ever been hospitalized, and the type of wards where they had their clinical experience. • Purpose: This study examined the definition of care coordination, and the activities and roles of nurse care coordinators. The study also proposed suggestions for establishing and expanding the role of nurse care coordinators in community health practice. Methods: This study derived its conclusions by conducting a literature review. Results: The definition of care coordination is a comprehensive concept that includes case management and transitional care, and can be summarized as organizer and integrator of care. According to the literature review, 12 activities and 6 roles of nurse care coordinator were identified such as a collaborator, an individualized care planer, an educator/counselor, a direct nursing care providers, a population care coordinator, and a program evaluator. Training for nurse care coordinators is currently addressed in the Primary Medical Chronic Disease Management Program. Visiting nurses working at the Eupyeong-dong visiting health and welfare service are expected to act as nurse care coordinators, and the role of nurse care coordinators will, in the future, gradually increase in various nursing facilities. Conclusion: In addition to developing competencies to act as a nurse care coordinator, there is need for approaches to health policy that develop both independent role and population focused role as care coordinators.

The Self-Efficacy was measured using 'The general self-efficacy scale' developed by Sherer and Maddux(1982). The data were collected through questionnaires and analysed using SAS program, frequencies, percentages and Pearson' correlation coefficients. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The average of first- line nurse managers' self- efficacy was 66.7. 2. The correlation between first-line nurse managers' self- efficacy and general characteristics(age, education, career) was not significant. • This study has been attempted using the Q methodology to clarify leader type of nurse managers that head nurses and general nurses recognize, and to clarify its relative relation. Sixty-three statements were extracted through interviews with general and professional people interested in the subject of nurse leaders to extract the Q population. A total of 314 Q population was formed added with 251 questions extracted from related documents. Final 32 Q samples were selected by reorganization of 314 Q population after reexamining statements through inquiry of 1 professor of the nurse department, 2 students in course of nurse science masters degree and 2 students in course of doctoral degree. The P sample selection standard of this study were 25 nurses and 30 head nurses. Examination subjects themselves filled out 32 statements classified in a measure of 9 points from agreeable items to disagreeable items. Principal component factors were analyzed using the QUANL pc program after grading the contents of the P sample. Nurses recognizing subjective structure for leader behaviors of nurse manager were analyzed to be 3 factors: vision presentation type, self-capability consideration type, relationship consideration type, and head nurses recognizing subjective structure were analyzed to be 2 types: task pursuit leader type, and concord pursuit type. Nursing manager's leader behavior, expected by staff nurse are more complex and higher level which may combined with task pursuit leader type in concord pursuit leader of head nurse. Also according to Horsey and Blanchard theory(1977), the effectiveness of leadership becomes to be larger as the accordance rate between the behaviors of nurse leaders and followers reaction increase Two suggestions have been made based on the conclusion. 1. Studies on creating strategies in relation to development, management, selection of nurse leaders should be made based on this study. 2. There is a need for relative study of production and degree of similarity of leadership types based on this study.
