In this paper, a finite element method is applied to the numerical calculation of the harbor calmness. The mild stop equation as the basic equation is used. The key of this model is that the bottom friction and boundary absorption are imposed. A numerical result is presented and compared with the results obtained from the other numerical analysis. These results are in very well agreement. This method calculating the calmness can be broadly utilized making the new design of harbor and fishing port in the future.
This research focused on analyzing and comparing between the results of hydraulic physical modeling and the results of numerical modeling of continuous block system in river bank protection which is newly developed in-situ block system. To verify the hydraulic physical modeling and review the effectiveness, the numerical modeling was needed against the model test results for vegetation application or not. HEC-RAS model was for 1 dimensional numerical analysis and SMS was for 2 dimensional numerical analysis. The results of the two dimensional numerical simulation, under the condition of roughness coefficient calibration, show similar and rational consequence against the physical modeling. These satisfactory results show that the accomplished results of hydraulic modeling and the predicted results of numerical modeling corresponded reasonably each others.

This paper presents the results of experimental and numerical model analyses on partially encased composite columns under concentric loads. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of replacing the conventional longitudinal and transverse steel bars by welded wire mesh on the structural behavior of these members under concentric loads. To achieve these goals experimental tests on four specimens of partially encased composite columns submitted to axial loading were performed and the results were promising in terms of replacing the traditional reinforcement by steel meshes. In addition, a numerical FE model was developed using the software DIANA$^{(R)}$ with FX+. The experimental results were used to validate the numerical model. Satisfactory agreement between experimental and numerical results was observed in both capacity and deformability of the composite columns. Despite of the simplifying assumptions of perfect bond between steel and concrete, the numerical model adequately represented the columns behavior. A finite element parametric study was performed and parameters including thickness of the steel profile and the concrete and steel strengths were evaluated. The parametrical study results found no significant changes in the partially encased columns behavior due to variations of the steel profile thickness or yield strength. However, significant changes in the post peak behavior were observed when using high strength concrete and these results suggest a change in the failure mode.

Numerical analysis is sometimes used to solve the problems in the engineering and natural science fields. On this reason, the faster, more practical system in computing the numerical solution is required. This paper deals with the numerical evaluation of various numerical integration methods which is frequently used in the engineering fields. This paper choices four integration methods such as Euler method, Heun's method, Runge-Kutta method and Gill's method for evaluating the each integration method. In numerical examples, the free vibration problem on an elastic foundation is chosen. As the numerical results, the natural frequencies and the running time are obtained, and these results are compared to examine the practicality of integration methods.
A numerical analysis was carried out to investigate the degradation of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in photocatalytic microreactors with different inner geometries. Two different cases of microreactor were considered, namely, one microreactor has bump on the channel and the other has no bump on the channel. The removal efficiency of VOC has been calculated by the Langmuir-Hinshelwood reaction rate equation that was obtained from the experimental results. From the numerical calculations, it was observed that the conversion ratio of VOC for the microchannel with bump is about 4.5% greater than the microchannel without bump. And the mass transfer characteristics in the microreactor are also shown in numerical results. These results can be used effectively for the photocatalytic numerical analysis.

In this study, a numerical model is developed using axial deformation link elements that can effectively predict the failure behavior of RC type structures. Using this mod 1, numerical analysis was performed to investigate the strengthening effect and failure behavior of structures repaired with a new material. High-Performance Cementitious Composites, which is characterized by its ductility with 5% strain-capacity is used as a repair material. To investigate the validity of developed numerical model, simulations of direct tension specimen and flexural specimen are performed and the results are compared with published ones. The similar analysis is performed for RC beam. Through this study, it is seen that predicted response has a good agreement with the experimental results. Using this verified numerical model, the strengthening effect of repaired with HPCC structure is analyzed through load-displacement curve and failure modes. Also, the same numerical analysis is performed in RC beam repaired with HPCC. The effect of HPCC ductility is estimated for the overall behavior of structures. Based on the results, the fundamental data are suggested for repaired structures with HPCC.

Numerical analysis has been performed to estimate maximum settlement and maximum horizontal displacement due to tunnel excavation varying ground condition, tunnel depth and diameter, and construction condition (volume loss at excavation face). The maximum surface settlement from the numerical analysis has been compared with the maximum settlement at tunnel crown considering ground condition, tunnel depth and diameter, and construction condition, and it has been also compared with the maximum horizontal displacement. The results from the numerical analysis have been compared with field measurements to confirm the applicability and validity of the results and by this comparison it is believed that the numerical results in this study can be utilized practically in analyzing the ground movements due to tunnel excavation.

In this study, the numerical investigation of ship motions and added resistance at constant forward velocity of KVLCC2 model is presented. Finite volume CFD code is used to calculate three dimensional, incompressible, unsteady RANS equations. Numerical computations show that reliable numerical results can be obtained in head waves. In the numerical analyses, body attached mesh method is used to simulate the ship motions. Free surface is simulated by using VOF method. The relationship between the turbulence viscosity and the velocities are obtained through the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The numerical results are examined in terms of ship resistance, ship motions and added resistance. The validation studies are carried out by comparing the present results obtained for the KVLCC2 hull from the literature. It is shown that, ship resistance, pitch and heave motions in regular head waves can be estimated accurately, although, added resistance can be predicted with some error.
This paper describes the effect of wave control using submerged flat plate by the numerical calculation and the hydraulic model test. The boundary element method is used to develop a numerical solution for the flow field caused by monochromatic oblique waves incident upon an infinitely long, sumerged flat plate situated in arbitrary water depth. The effect of wave blocking is examined according to the change of length, submerged depth of flat plate and incident angles. Numerical results show that longer length, shallower submergence of flat plate and larger incident angles enhance the effect of wave blocking. To validate numerical analysis method, hydraulic model test was conducted in 2-D wave flume with 60 cm metal sheet. Reflected waves are extracted from water surface elevation in front of the location of a submerged plate by least square method with 3 wave gages. From comparing experimental results with numerical results, efficiency of numerical analysis method by this study could be confirmed well within wide ranges of wave frequencies.
In comparison with the existing static reliability analysis methods, the dynamic reliability analysis(DyRA) method is more suitable for estimating the failure probability of a structure subjected to earthquake excitations because it can take into account the frequency characteristics and damping capacity of the structure. However, the DyRA is known to have an issue of numerical stability due to the uncertainty in random sampling of the earthquake excitations. In order to solve this numerical stability issue in the DyRA approach, this study proposed two earthquake-scale factors. The first factor is defined as the ratio of the first earthquake excitation over the maximum value of the remaining excitations, and the second factor is defined as the condition number of the matrix consisting of the earthquake excitations. Then, we have performed parametric studies of two factors on numerical stability of the DyRA method. In illustrative example, it was clearly confirmed that the two factors can be used to verify the numerical stability of the proposed DyRA method. However, there exists a difference between the two factors. The first factor showed some overlapping region between the stable results and the unstable results so that it requires some additional reliability analysis to guarantee the stability of the DyRA method. On the contrary, the second factor clearly distinguished the stable and unstable results of the DyRA method without any overlapping region. Therefore, the second factor can be said to be better than the first factor as the criterion to determine whether or not the proposed DyRA method guarantees its numerical stability. In addition, the accuracy of the numerical analysis results of the proposed DyRA has been verified in comparison with those of the existing first-order reliability method(FORM), Monte Carlo simulation(MCS) method and subset simulation method(SSM). The comparative results confirmed that the proposed DyRA method can provide accurate and reliable estimation of the structural failure probability while maintaining the superior numerical efficiency over the existing methods.
