This paper firstly briefly describes developed numerical model for both static and dynamic analysis of planar structures made of concrete, steel and masonry. The model can simulate the main nonlinearity of such individual and composite structures. The model is quite simple and based on a small number of material parameters. After that, three real composite concrete-steel-masonry bridges were analyzed using the presented numerical model. It was concluded that the model can be useful in practical analysis of composite bridges. However, future verifications of the presented numerical model are desirable.
Five dam-break floodwave models are t재 field data sets. The models included FLDWAV, SMPDBK, HEC-1, Tr66, and HEC Dimensionless Graph. The field data sets documented the disasters at Teton dam, and Yeunchun dam. The FLDWAV results are uesd to test the sensitivity of the floodwave to variations in Manning's roughness coefficient, breach size, and bottom slope. The HEC-1 analysis includes testing the sensitivity of the results to model parameters. The TR66 model and FLDWAV, with channel routing by TR66 in both cases. SMPDBK and the Dimensionless Graph procedure are applied without particular difficulties being encountered in both real world cases. It is necessary to analyze numerical limit of existing numerical models and then to apply the relatively accurate numerical model in real basin. It is found that FLDWAV model is superior in numerical accuracy and stability to any other model. This study will contribute to improve defect of numerical models and develop more precise numerical model for a efficient and rapid dam breach flood disaster predict.
This research investigated the way of generating the flowing of water in case of artificial fluctuation of river width by the unidimensional numerical analysis in order to reconstruct vertical and expanse features of flowing, and the problem of existing numerical analysis in accordance with local enlargement and reduction of river through hydraulic model experiments with results of numerical analysis. The result revealed that when the local section change in the same river is exist, it showed 0.93m in the case of no change of local section in the hydraulic model experiments and numerical analysis, however, it presented 1.645m on the occasion of local section changes in the hydraulic model experiments and numerical analysis. In other words, there was a significant difference in the existing numerical analysis, when there was a local section change. As a result of the experimental section for the enlargement and reduction of local river width, due to the sensitive change for fluctuation of flood discharge, there was a significant difference between numerical analysis and hydraulic model experiments. In addition, the result of comparison between the enlargement and reduction of local river width confirmed that the result of numerical analysis with hydraulic model experiments showed larger generation of deviation in case of enlargement of section than in case of reduction of section.

In order to integrate two consolidation theories of Terzaghi's consolidation theory and Mesri's secondary compression theory and to identify a model suitable for analyzing stress-strain behavior over time, numerical analysis on consolidation tests were conducted using a modified cam-clay model and a soft soil creep model and the following conclusions were obtained. The results of numerical analysis applying the theory that a linear proportional relationship is established between the void ratio at logarithmic scale and the permeability coefficient at logarithmic scale is better agreement with the result of oedometer test than the results of applying constant hydraulic conductivity. The modified cam-clay model is a model that does not include secondary compression, but the slope of the normal consolidation line corresponding to the compression index of the standard consolidation test includes secondary compression, so the actual settlement curve over time is lower than the predicted value through numerical analysis. It always gets smaller. Other previous studies that applied Terzaghi's consolidation theory to consolidation test analysis showed the same results and were cross-confirmed. The soft soil creep model, which includes secondary compression in the theory, showed good agreement in all sections including secondary compression in the consolidation test results. It was judged appropriate to use a soft soil creep model when performing numerical analysis of soft clay ground.
In this study, we developed a whole cardiovascular system model combined with a Laplace heart based on the numerical cardiac cell model and a detailed arterial network structure. The present model incorporates the Laplace heart model and pulmonary model using the lumped parameter model with the distributed arterial system model. The Laplace heart plays a role of the pump consisted of the atrium and ventricle. We applied a cellular contraction model modulated by calcium concentration and action potential in the single cell. The numerical arterial model is based upon a numerical solution of the one-dimensional momentum equations and continuity equation of flow and vessel wall motion in a geometrically accurate branching network of the arterial system including energy losses at bifurcations. For validation of the present method, the computed pressure waves are compared with the existing experimental observations. Using the cell-system-arterial network combined model, the pathophysiological events from cells to arterial network are delineated.
When the existing polder levee was constructed, the river's numerical analysis decided the bank raise by applying the planned flood stage or by using the result from the sectional 1st dimensional numerical analysis. But, it was presented that there is a limitation in the 1st dimensional value analysis when the structure like the polder levee obstructs the special shaped running water flow. Therefore, in order to verify the numerical value applicability when the polder levee is constructed, this report compared each other through the 1st and 2nd dimensional numerical analysis and the mathematical principle model laboratory. In case of the polder levee construction through the numerical analysis and the mathematical principle model laboratory, it was decided that there was no big problem in the 1st dimensional numerical analysis applied design, considering the uncertainty of mathematical principle analysis though the first dimensional numerical analysis was calculated a little bigger than the second. But, after construction, it was found that the water level deviation of the 1st, 2nd occurred biggest at the place where the flow was divided into two. Also, as a result of comparing the 1st, 2nd dimensional numerical analysis with the mathematical principle model laboratory, it was confirmed that the 1st numerical analysis applied design decreased the modal safety largely, as the left side water level was calculated smaller more than 0.5m in case of the 1st dimensional numerical analysis.

In order to accumulate fundamental. data for control of fishes’ behavior at the real fishing ground, the fitness of the numerical model for describing the behavior of fishes was examined by the marine fish. Mullet, Mugil cephalus were used as experimental fishes. The numerical model of fishes’ behavior presented in our earlier paper was modified on the vertical movement of fish school. For the comparision of parameters of the modified numerical model between mullet and rainbow trout, the estimated values of parameters were identified with dimension. The fitness of the modified numerical model was examined by the comparision between experiment and simulation on the several indexes represented by fishes’ swimming characteristics. The obtained result are summarized a follows : 1. The non-dimensional parameter a’ of propulsive force and kb’ of interactive force by the experiment without model net showed a similarity, but the non-dimensional parameter k sub(c’) of schooling force for rainbow trout was lager than one for mullet and the non-dimensional parameter k sub(w’) of repulsive force for mullet was lager than one for rainbow trout. 2. The non-dimensional parameter a’ and k sub(b’) for rainbow trout by the experiment with model net were a little lager than ones for mullet, but non-dimensional parameter k sub(c’) and k sub(w’) for mullet were lager than ones for rainbow trout. 3. The non-dimensional parameter k sub(c’) and k sub(b’) showed the largest and the smallest value among the non-dimensional parameters for rainbow trout and mullet, respectively. 4. The fitness of the modified numerical model was confirmed by means of the compulsion between experiment and simulation on the swimming trajectory of fishes, the mean distance of individual from wall, the mean swimming speed, the mean swimming depth and the mean distance between the nearest individuals. Especially, the similarity of mean swimming depth was improved by using the modified numerical model.

In the management of groundwater in coastal areas, saltwater intrusion associated with extensive groundwater pumping, is an important problem. The groundwater optimization model is an advanced method to study the aquifer and decide the optimal pumping rates or optimal well locations. Cheng and Park gave the analytical solutions to the optimization problems basing on Strack's analytical solution. However, the analytical solutions have some limitations of the property of aquifer, boundary conditions, and so on. A simulation-optimization numerical method presented in this study can deal with non-homogenous aquifers and various complex boundary conditions. This simulation-optimization model includes the sharp interface solution which solves the same governing equation with Strack's analytical solution, therefore, the freshwater head and saltwater thickness should be in the same conditions, that can lead to the comparable results in optimal pumping rates and optimal well locations for both of the solutions. It is noticed that the analytical solutions can only be applied on the infinite domain aquifer, while it is impossible to get a numerical model with infinite domain. To compare the numerical model with the analytical solutions, calculation of the equivalent boundary flux was planted into the numerical model so that the numerical model can have the same conditions in steady state with analytical solutions.
Various centrifuge model tests on the pile foundations were performed to investigate fundamental characteristics of a pile-soil-foundation system recently, but it is hard to find numerical analysis results of a pile foundation system considering the nonlinear behavior of soil layers due to the dynamic excitations. Numerical analyses for a pile-soil system were carried out to verify the experimental results of centrifuge model tests. Centrifuge model tests were performed at the laboratory applying 1.5 Hz sinusoidal base input motions, and nonlinear numerical analyses were performed utilizing a finite element program of P3DASS in the frequency domain and applying the same input motions with the intensities of 0.05 g~0.38 g. Nonlinear soil properties of soil elements were defined by Ramberg-Osgood soil model for the nonlinear dynamic analyses. Nonlinear numerical analyses with the P3DASS program were helpful to predict the trend of experimental responses of a centrifuge model efficiently, even though there were some difficulties in processing analytical results and to find out unintended deficits in measured experimental data. Also nonlinear soil properties of elements in the system can be estimated adequately using an analytical program to compare them with experimental results.

In this paper, an application of finite element procedure fur tunnel failure analysis has been studied. The numerical model is applied to the simulation of a series of plane strain laboratory tests on the small scale model of a shallow tunnel. By comparing experimental and numerical results some conclusions are drawn on the effectiveness of the numerical approach. The findings from these numerical experiments show relative differences in the pattern of failure behaviour for shallow tunnels.
